n accordance with Article IV, Section 5, of West Florida Electric Cooperative’s bylaws, WFEC has appointed a nominating committee to identify interested and qualified members to be candidates for the board of trustees in the co-op’s upcoming elections. WFEC’s members will elect trustees to represent the following districts: District 1: That part of Calhoun County served by the cooperative. District 2: That part of Jackson County lying east of the Chipola River and between the north line of Calhoun County and the south line of Township 6 North.
To be eligible to serve as a trustee, a person must be a bona fide WFEC member in good standing, residing in the respective district, and meet certain other requirements set forth in WFEC’s bylaws. Desired qualifications include the ability to become bonded, the capability of receiving and sending electronic mail transmissions and successfully meeting all requirements to become a National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Credentialed Cooperative Director within 36 months. All candidates must agree to abide by Board Policy No. 126: Board Election Campaign Policy. Any WFEC member living in Districts 1, 2 or 3 who is interested in running should contact a committee member in the appropriate district or Susie Johnson at (850) 263-3231. All completed documents must be mailed or delivered to the Graceville office and submitted to Susie Johnson or her designee by noon on February 22. What is Demand? How Does it Impact my Rates?
A
s a member of West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC), we want you to understand how your cooperative’s electric rates are determined and set. One of the most important factors affecting your rates is demand -- the collective “appetite” of WFEC and its members for electricity at a specific point in time. Put simply, demand is how hungry our cooperative is for power: right now, years down the road or at any point in between. It represents how much power WFEC requires to keep the lights on 24/7/365. It can change depending on the season, the time of day, or a host of other factors. For example, WFEC experiences its highest – or “peak” – demand on cold winter mornings, when the most people are using electricity.

Determining Demand WFEC purchases electricity from its wholesale power supplier, PowerSouth, a generation & transmission cooperative that serves the power needs of its 20 members. Every year, PowerSouth’s system planning department works with each member, including WFEC, to determine PowerSouth’s total system load, meaning the demand for electricity across the entire system. Imagine being in charge of planning an event like a birthday party, awards banquet or wedding reception. It’s important to know how many people will be attending so that you’ll know how much food to serve. Too much, and you’re wasting money; too little, and your guests go home disappointed. You’d much rather have your guests remembering what a good time they had and not how hungry they were when it was all over – and you’d want to accomplish this without breaking the bank. he Special Needs Registry Shelter Program is designed to provide hurricane or disaster related evacuation assistance and care for those without other alternatives. If you need transportation assistance or have a health or medical condition that requires medical attention while at a shelter, you should register for this program. If you are a client of a hospice or home health care agency, you should ensure that they have already registered you into the system. This registration helps the local emergency management agency identify those in need of assistance and plan for resource allocation to meet those needs. Special Needs Shelters are designed to meet the needs of persons who require assistance that exceeds services provided at a general population shelter. A Special Needs Shelter is a place to go when there is no other sheltering option. Shelters may be activated during an emergency event to provide mass care for people who cannot safely remain in their homes. Special Needs Shelters are intended to provide, to the extent possible under emergency conditions, an environment that can sustain an individual’s level of health. If a person is medically stable but needs help with basic tasks or uses an electronic medical device and has no other evacuation options, they should pre-register for a Special Needs Shelter.
This registration must be updated each year. West Florida Electric Cooperative helps local emergency management agencies get the word out about this program. What is Demand? How Does it Impact my Rates?
A
s a member of West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC), we want you to understand how your cooperative’s electric rates are determined and set. One of the most important factors affecting your rates is demand -- the collective “appetite” of WFEC and its members for electricity at a specific point in time. Put simply, demand is how hungry our cooperative is for power: right now, years down the road or at any point in between. It represents how much power WFEC requires to keep the lights on 24/7/365. It can change depending on the season, the time of day, or a host of other factors. For example, WFEC experiences its highest – or “peak” – demand on cold winter mornings, when the most people are using electricity.

Determining Demand WFEC purchases electricity from its wholesale power supplier, PowerSouth, a generation & transmission cooperative that serves the power needs of its 20 members. Every year, PowerSouth’s system planning department works with each member, including WFEC, to determine PowerSouth’s total system load, meaning the demand for electricity across the entire system. Imagine being in charge of planning an event like a birthday party, awards banquet or wedding reception. It’s important to know how many people will be attending so that you’ll know how much food to serve. Too much, and you’re wasting money; too little, and your guests go home disappointed. You’d much rather have your guests remembering what a good time they had and not how hungry they were when it was all over – and you’d want to accomplish this without breaking the bank. n accordance with Article IV, Section 5, of West Florida Electric Cooperative’s bylaws, WFEC has appointed a nominating committee to identify interested and qualified members to be candidates for the board of trustees in the co-op’s upcoming elections. WFEC’s members will elect trustees to represent the following districts: District 1: That part of Calhoun County served by the cooperative. District 2: That part of Jackson County lying east of the Chipola River and between the north line of Calhoun County and the south line of Township 6 North.
To be eligible to serve as a trustee, a person must be a bona fide WFEC member in good standing, residing in the respective district, and meet certain other requirements set forth in WFEC’s bylaws. Desired qualifications include the ability to become bonded, the capability of receiving and sending electronic mail transmissions and successfully meeting all requirements to become a National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Credentialed Cooperative Director within 36 months. All candidates must agree to abide by Board Policy No. 126: Board Election Campaign Policy. Any WFEC member living in Districts 1, 2 or 3 who is interested in running should contact a committee member in the appropriate district or Susie Johnson at (850) 263-3231. All completed documents must be mailed or delivered to the Graceville office and submitted to Susie Johnson or her designee by noon on February 22.
