Luke is the son of Cody Taylor, former Holmes County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Brenda Taylor, retired Bonifay Elementary Guidance Counselor. Luke graduated from Holmes County High School in l996. He earned an AA Degree from Chipola Jr. College and a BS in Criminal Justice from Florida State University while working a full-time job. In 2003 he earned his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Mississippi College in Jackson, MS. Following graduation from law school, Luke returned home and began work for the State Attorney’s Office in the 14th Judicial Circuit. In 2006 Luke opened his private practice and handled a variety of civil and criminal defense cases. He has represented numerous clients in county court and circuit court locally. He has also represented clients before the District Court of Appeals and was successful in each of these cases. This shows a clear understanding of Florida law and its interpretation and application, certainly an important attribute for a judge. In 2008 Luke returned, part-time, to the State Attorney’s Office in Holmes County to handle felonies, misdemeanors and juvenile cases while he maintained his private practice there. Two years later, in 2010, his position with the State Attorney’s office involved his moving to Washington County to handle their misdemeanor and juvenile cases. Also, he has continued to maintain his private practice in Bonifay. Luke has also served as attorney for the Holmes County School Board, the City of Bonifay and the Town of Noma from 2009 thru 2015. Luke is married to the former Meaghan Spear of Bonifay, daughter of Randy and Sandy Spear. They have three children, Elijah 5, Abram 2 and Lillian, three weeks. He is also a committed lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Bonifay, where he serves as Sunday School teacher, on various committees and has served as Chairman of the Deacons. Luke says that he would like the opportunity to serve the citizens of Holmes County as their county judge. His preparation and experience is evidence that he is qualified to assume this role as Holmes County Judge. His pledge to you is that he will apply the law fairly and impartially, while using the “common sense” approach to determine each case. He looks forward to seeing you all on the campaign trail. West Florida Electric Cooperative members have been contacted by these “bad guys” who claim to be collecting past due balances on WFEC accounts. These callers usually say that a members’ electric service will be disconnected without prompt payment. “You never know who they’re going to be in a given day,” said Mike Morley, corporate communications manager at Midwest Energy in Hays, Kan. “They’ve adapted their tactics to where the same group will impersonate a number of utilities.” Morley, who first spoke to ECT.coop about scams in March 2013, said that it used to be victims threatened with disconnection were told by scammers to buy a prepaid card and that they’d be called back in a couple of hours. 68339001 “Now they call and say, ‘This is Midwest Energy. Your account is past due and we need you to call us back,’” Morley said, adding that spoofing software fools the caller ID into displaying “Midwest Energy.” “When they call back they get a voice menu that sounds exactly like ours. And it’s not just us—other utilities have reported this.” A Midwest Energy staffer called the toll-free number posing as a member using a phony name and account number, and was told they owed $780. The staffer was even instructed to go to a specific nearby store to buy a ReloadIt prepaid card. When an ECT.coop reporter dialed the same number another day, the recording claimed it was Eversource, a New England investor-owned utility. Upon reaching a live person, the reporter gave a phony location in Eversource’s Springfield, Mass., territory. After tapping on a keyboard, the man on the phone told the reporter there was a $997.78 delinquent balance and to go to a supermarket two miles away to buy ReloadIt cards and call back with the numbers. 97396001 When the reporter told the man that the address was actually in the middle of a river, the man responded, “I’m playing around

n accordance with Article IV, Section 5, of West Florida Electric Cooperative’s bylaws, WFEC has appointed a nominating committee to identify interested and qualified members to be candidates for the board of trustees in the co-op’s upcoming elections. WFEC’s members will elect trustees to represent the following districts: District 1: That part of Calhoun County served by the cooperative. District 2: That part of Jackson County lying east of the Chipola Rivers and between the north line of Calhoun County and the south line of Township 6 North.

District 3: That part of Jackson County lying east of Marshall Creek, north of the south line of Township 6 North.

To be eligible to serve as a trustee, a person must be a bonafide WFEC member residing in the respective district and meet certain other requirements set forth in WFEC’s bylaws. Desired qualifications include the ability to become bonded, the capability of receiving and sending electronic mail and facsimile transmissions and successfully meeting all requirements to become a National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Credentialed Cooperative Director within 36 months. Any WFEC member living in Districts 1, 2 or 3 and interested in running should contact a committee member in the appropriate district.
