We're pleased to announce the launch of a solar calculator on our website (https://www.westflorida.coop/solar-energy) that will help you understand how installing solar panels at your home might impact energy costs. It's difficult for solar installation companies to track each utility's rates and solar metering models and account for it accurately in the proposals they generate for homeowners. We want to make sure you have access to these important details if you are considering bids. Solar installers may present a variety of "estimates" or "averages" to calculate energy savings in proposals. It's important to understand how estimates may vary and how the values they use may have an influence on the projected "pay-back period" for the system. Installers may suggest you automatically qualify for a Federal Tax Credit. It's important to know how these tax credits work, as you may not have the taxable income for this credit to apply to you. The solar calculator allows you to experiment with annual rate increase scenarios to understand the potential impacts of future price changes. You can also gain an understanding of how an optional battery storage system may impact the viability of the solar system based on our metering model. Ingredients:

• 1 pound marshmallows • 1 large can Carnation milk • 1 large Ritz crackers (14.5 oz.) • 2 one pound containers candied cherries (red & green) • 1 pound dates, chopped • 4 cans angel flake coconut (can omit) • 1 quart chopped pecans • 2 containers candied pineapple (8 rings, chopped) • 1 pound golden raisins (can chop) • 1 pound package candied fruit mix (can also omit)

Put fruit & nuts in a large pan. Sprinkle the cracker crumbles over the fruit and nuts and mix well. Melt the marshmallows in the Carnation milk over low heat and cool. Pour the milk and melted marshmallows over the fruit, nuts and crackers. Mix well. Line 9x13 pan or dish with wax paper or foil. Put mixture in pan or dish and compress until solid and firm. Cool in refrigerator. Once cool, cut into servings and remove from pan. This will keep 2-3 months in the refrigerator of can be frozen for up to 6 months.

WFEC Scholarship Applications Now Available

re you a driven and ambitious student with dreams of pursuing higher education? The opportunity you've been waiting for has arrived! We are thrilled to announce that West Florida Electric Cooperative's (WFEC) Scholarship Program applications are now available, offering you a chance to apply for a $1,000 scholarship to the college, university or vocational/technical school of your choice. Commitment to community is one of the basic foundations on which WFEC stands. To support the educational goals of students in the communities it serves, the cooperative is proud to sponsor these scholarships for one eligible graduating 2024 senior from each high school within the cooperative's four-county service area. Scholarships will also be available to home-schooled students who wish to continue their education. In today's competitive world, investing in education is one of the most significant decisions you can make. However, we understand the financial challenges that many of our talented and deserving students face. That's why West Florida Electric is dedicated to supporting your dreams through our scholarship program. The scholarships available from the cooperative are for study at post-secondary or vocational/technical institutions. Applications are available on the co-op's website: westflorida.coop, at any district office or from your high school guidance counselors. The deadline to apply is March 22, 2024 by 5 PM. To qualify, a student's parent or guardian must be a member of West Florida Electric living on the cooperative's electric distribution lines. Applicants must also be graduating in 2024 from a school located within the co-op's fourcounty service area. Recipients will be selected by a committee of judges who work at the cooperative. To apply, complete the application and write a 500-1,000 word essay on the topic provided. Incomplete, late or misdirected applications will not be considered.

Dylan Thrasher, a 2023 graduate of Blountstown HS was one of WFEC's inaugural scholarship winners. He recently enrolled in Wallace College's Pre-apprentice Lineworker program.

Scholarship Criteria: • Applicants must be graduating in 2024 from a school located within the cooperative’s four-county service area. • The applicant’s parent or legal guardian must be a member of West Florida Electric Cooperative and live on the cooperative's electric distribution lines. • The applicant must be enrolled or enrolling in an accredited college program, either full-time or part-time. • The recipient must be a vocational/technical or undergraduate student only. • The scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to the college’s business office on behalf of the recipient in the amount of $1,000. • The recipient must use the funds within three (3) years. • The judges will review the applications anonymously, so their decisions are based solely on the strength of the applicant’s essay and application. • All judges’ decisions are final. • Previous winners are not eligible to win. Scholarships are more than just financial aid; they are pathways to brighter futures, so we encourage you to apply if you are eligible.
