Bill Payment Options Avoiding Double Payments

s technology has advanced and improved, West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC) has advanced with it by adding several ways to make payments on your electric account. These payment methods are meant to be easy and convenient for our members, however, we have recently noticed a few problems members may be having with the bill payment systems available at the co-op. One of the primary problems has been members making double payments. These problems can be easily prevented by following a few basic steps. Let's review some of the options available for making payments: 1. Mobile app and online bill payments offer members the convenience of paying online by logging into the customer portal or downloading the mobile app for phone or tablet and logging onto the app to make payments. When using these methods, please be careful not to click submit more than once without first verifying that your payment was processed. Technology is great but it is not always as speedy as we would like. A little patience during this process can save you a lot of time in the future having to clear up a double payment. We highly recommend that you set up “notifications” in online bill pay or the mobile app. These notifications can be emails or text alerts for things like payment notifications, due date reminders and more. Setting up notifications can also be a helpful tool for confirming if a payment has been made to your account in an effort to prevent double payments. When making payments online, you can always call the cooperative to confirm your payment was made and received. In fact, if you have any questions about making payments, our member service representatives are available to answer those for you – just call the cooperative at 855.MYWFECA (855.699.3322) to speak to someone. continued page 4

2. Automatic bank draft allows WFEC members to schedule a bank draft payment from a checking or savings account at your financial institution. This method can also be set up using a debit or credit card. *It is important to note that if you schedule a draft payment for a specific date, but make payment in a different manner before this scheduled draft is withdrawn, then the original draft must be cancelled or it will still be deducted from your account on the date it was scheduled. *This can cause double payments to be withdrawn from your account. 3. Off-site payment locations are available for members to pay monthly electric bills on or before the due date: • Regions Bank Payment Locations are in Blountstown and Marianna. WFEC members who make payments at Regions Bank must be a Regions account holder and must pay with a Regions check. Members who make payments in the night drop at Regions must adhere to the same rules. Members must have their current payment coupon and may pay no less than the full amount of the bill. Late payments will not be accepted at these locations. • People’s South Bank Payment Locations are in Chipley, Greenwood, Malone, Marianna, Sneads and Blountstown. People’s South Bank will accept payment from any WFEC member, regardless of whether or not they are a People’s South customer. WFEC members may make payments with cash or check and may use the night drop. Members must have their current payment coupon and may pay no less than the full amount of the bill. n 1938, Franklin D. Roosevelt said, "Yes, electricity is a modern necessity of life (and) not a luxury. That necessity ought to be found in every village, in every home and on every farm in every part of the wide United States." It's hard for us to imagine our lives without the modern conveniences electricity provides for us each day, but there was a time, in the not too distant past, when our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents didn't know this luxury. The conveniences taken for granted in cities were simply unknown to farmers and their families. Eighty years ago a group of visionaries partnered with one another to recruit members for a new electric cooperative. Their hope was that bringing electricity to the rural areas of Calhoun, Holmes, Jackson and Washington Counties would improve the lives of their friends and neighbors. Well, it did! Well pumps, appliances, radios and machinery for the farm began popping up everywhere to help farmers and their families be more productive, have the Joe Rone, President, Board of Trustees convenience of keeping food cool and preserved and having lights to read by and radios to listen to in the evenings. Can you imagine what these farmers and rural electrification pioneers would think of the techonology we now have at the touch of a fingertip? Conveniences and advancements they never dreamed of have been made possible due to the electrification of our country in the 1930s and 1940s. Membership in this electric cooperative was $5, an amount that was sometimes difficult to scrape together in those days. Today, membership in your Russell Dunaway, EVP & CEO cooperative remains just $5. And, even though the conveniences we enjoy due to electricity are somewhat different from the ones enjoyed 80 years ago, we wanted to commemorate this milestone event. As your electric cooperative celebrates 80 years of providing electric service to our members this December, we will be hosting birthday parties for the co-op at each district office on Tuesday, December 12. These events will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on December 12. We invite continued page 6

W
e want you to be aware of a growing phone scam that is targeting utility customers. Phone scammers posting as your utility call and insist you are delinquent on your bill. They may also threaten to turn off your power, rig caller ID to make it look like the call is from our cooperative. They may tell you to put money on a prepaid debit card and ask for the card number. We also recently had a member receive a call from an automated system telling her she had an important package from WFEC and to press one to find out more. The caller ID said West Florida EL and used a co-op phone number. Don’t believe any of this. Scammers may use threatening language in order to frighten you into offering your credit card or bank account information. Don’t fall victim to these types of scams. Do not pay over the phone if immediate payment is demanded to avoid a disconnection. Here’s what to do if the call seems suspicious: • If someone calls your home or cell phone demanding you pay your electric bill immediately, gather as much information as you can from that individual, hang-up the phone and contact the local authorities. Scammers often use threats and urgency to pressure you into giving them your bank account number or loading a pre-paid credit or debit card

Ingredients: 1 lb. marshmallows 1 large can Carnation® milk 1 large (14.5 oz.) box Ritz® crackers 2 large containers of candied cherries 1 lb. dates, chopped 4 cans angel flake coconut or (1 lb. pkg. plus one cup) 1 qt. chopped pecans (can use less) 2 containers candied pineapple (8 rings) 1 lb. white raisins (golden), can chopped 1 lb. pkg. candied fruit mix

Directions: Can cut all fruit up the day before. Mix in a large bowl or dishpan. Melt marshmallows & milk over low heat and cool. Crush crackers, spread crumbs over fruit, nuts and coconut. Mix. Put in marshmallow mixture. Mix well again. Line 9x13 pan or angel food cake pan with wax paper or foil. Put mixture in pan, compress until it is solid & firm. Cool in refrigerator. Once it is cool, you can remove from the pan. Keeps 2-3 months in refrigerator or can be frozen for up to 6 months.

e want you to be aware of a growing phone scam that is targeting utility customers. Phone scammers posting as your utility call and insist you are delinquent on your bill. They may also threaten to turn off your power, rig caller ID to make it look like the call is from our cooperative. They may tell you to put money on a prepaid debit card and ask for the card number. We also recently had a member receive a call from an automated system telling her she had an important package from WFEC and to press one to find out more. The caller ID said West Florida EL and used a co-op phone number. Don’t believe any of this. Scammers may use threatening language in order to frighten you into offering your credit card or bank account information. Don’t fall victim to these types of scams. Do not pay over the phone if immediate payment is demanded to avoid a disconnection. Here’s what to do if the call seems suspicious: • If someone calls your home or cell phone demanding you pay your electric bill immediately, gather as much information as you can from that individual, hang-up the phone and contact the local authorities. Scammers often use threats and urgency to pressure you into giving them your bank account number or loading a pre-paid credit or debit card

n 1938, Franklin D. Roosevelt said, "Yes, electricity is a modern necessity of life (and) not a luxury. That necessity ought to be found in every village, in every home and on every farm in every part of the wide United States." It's hard for us to imagine our lives without the modern conveniences electricity provides for us each day, but there was a time, in the not too distant past, when our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents didn't know this luxury. The conveniences taken for granted in cities were simply unknown to farmers and their families. Eighty years ago a group of visionaries partnered with one another to recruit members for a new electric cooperative. Their hope was that bringing electricity to the rural areas of Calhoun, Holmes, Jackson and Washington Counties would improve the lives of their friends and neighbors. Well, it did! Well pumps, appliances, radios and machinery for the farm began popping up everywhere to help farmers and their families be more productive, have the Joe Rone, President, Board of Trustees convenience of keeping food cool and preserved and having lights to read by and radios to listen to in the evenings. Can you imagine what these farmers and rural electrification pioneers would think of the techonology we now have at the touch of a fingertip? Conveniences and advancements they never dreamed of have been made possible due to the electrification of our country in the 1930s and 1940s. Membership in this electric cooperative was $5, an amount that was sometimes difficult to scrape together in those days. Today, membership in your Russell Dunaway, EVP & CEO cooperative remains just $5. And, even though the conveniences we enjoy due to electricity are somewhat different from the ones enjoyed 80 years ago, we wanted to commemorate this milestone event. As your electric cooperative celebrates 80 years of providing electric service to our members this December, we will be hosting birthday parties for the co-op at each district office on Tuesday, December 12. These events will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on December 12. We invite continued page 6

s technology has advanced and improved, West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC) has advanced with it by adding several ways to make payments on your electric account. These payment methods are meant to be easy and convenient for our members, however, we have recently noticed a few problems members may be having with the bill payment systems available at the co-op. One of the primary problems has been members making double payments. These problems can be easily prevented by following a few basic steps. Let's review some of the options available for making payments: 1. Mobile app and online bill payments offer members the convenience of paying online by logging into the customer portal or downloading the mobile app for phone or tablet and logging onto the app to make payments. When using these methods, please be careful not to click submit more than once without first verifying that your payment was processed. Technology is great but it is not always as speedy as we would like. A little patience during this process can save you a lot of time in the future having to clear up a double payment. We highly recommend that you set up “notifications” in online bill pay or the mobile app. These notifications can be emails or text alerts for things like payment notifications, due date reminders and more. Setting up notifications can also be a helpful tool for confirming if a payment has been made to your account in an effort to prevent double payments. When making payments online, you can always call the cooperative to confirm your payment was made and received. In fact, if you have any questions about making payments, our member service representatives are available to answer those for you – just call the cooperative at 855.MYWFECA (855.699.3322) to speak to someone. continued page 4
