Here are a few things you should note: • Your phone plan’s standard data charges will apply. • If your phone number is not recognized, the texting service will tell you to contact the cooperative by phone to report your outage using the outage management system. This means you need to update your phone number on the co-op’s billing system. • If you text OUT to report an outage, but don’t respond to the questions the system asks, it will say your outage was not reported and ask you to respond to the questions or call the office. • When you have multiple meters, and they are both off the same device, you’ll be asked if they are both out. • To use the outage texting feature, members must have a mobile number associated with their account. Remember, it is best to make updates to your accounts before outages occur. WFEC also added an outage reporting feature to its mobile apps for both Android and IPhone users. This allows members to report outages from our mobile apps as well as view the online outage map from the app. The online outage map is a great tool available for you to monitor outages 24/7. You can find that on our website. The map displays information about where outages are located, how many members are being impacted, what county it is in and if a crew has been dispatched to that location. Unfortunately, we can’t prevent all outage situations, but we can provide easier and more convenient ways for you to report the outages that do occur.

“I decided to participate in the Youth Tour because it seemed like it would be a chance to meet new people, visit new places and learn more about the people who help our nation function. The whole trip was incredible, but my favorite part was watching the United States Marine Corps Sunset Parade at the Lincoln Memorial. There, we were able to meet some of the men and women who defend and honor our country,” said Alday. 93491001 Rich said he decided to participate in Youth Tour because of the opportunity to win a $4,000 scholarship to Chipola College. He went on to say, “The most enjoyable part of the Youth Tour experience was making so many new friends.” The Youth Tour program is open to all high school juniors whose parents or guardians are members of West Florida Electric Cooperative. Each high school within WFEC’s service area selects a representative for the State Youth Tour during the fall semester each year. The selected representatives then go on to compete for the two slots available for the National Youth Tour trip to Washington, D.C. The Youth Tour program is also a scholarship opportunity for area students, as mentioned above. One $4,000 scholarship to Chipola College is awarded to a participant from each county served by WFEC. “The Youth Tour experience was very positive from the interview process, to the banquet, to the DC trip. This program is very well organized and communicated every detail effectively and efficiently. I felt like West Florida Electric employees went above and beyond to make this trip a very memorable one. The program allows young leaders to leave their comfort zones and learn about new things. The Youth Tour was an amazing experience that showed me different types of people in Florida along with the diversity that there is in a larger city. It was a once in a lifetime experience that I will remember forever,”said Rich. “If you receive a call from someone claiming to be with your local electric utility, don’t give them any personal or financial information. Instead, hang up and call your electric utility right away!” they wrote. “Your electric provider will never ask for a pre-paid card to pay your bill—that is what many scammers ask for in the calls!” That exact scam has been a popular one used to target WFEC members as well. So has the example below. In David City, Nebraska, Butler Public Power District warned members of calls threatening disconnection unless payment is made immediately. That attracted the notice of the Butler County Sheriff's Office, which posted on its Facebook feed that it's received numerous complaints about calls—supposedly from BPPD or other local utilities—"requesting cash payments or customers will face an immediate disconnect of their power." “This is a scam!” the sheriff noted, before taking to all caps to warn, “DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION TO ANYONE OVER THE PHONE.” 39462002 That’s sound advice in neighboring Colorado and also here in Florida, where co-ops have experienced someone claiming to be from the co-op calling members, saying the payment check they sent wasn’t valid and they need to give a credit or debit card on the spot to keep the lights on. “The scammers called members late in the afternoon, which is apparently part of the now traditional scam to panic them. Of course our consumer-members do not want to be without electricity overnight,” said Ron Meier, LPEA manager of engineering and member services. West Florida Electric and other co-ops never make these types of calls, nor do they disconnect power outside of regular business hours or on weekends. If you ever doubt that someone is a co-op representative, please hang up immediately and contact the cooperative at 800-342-7400. WFEC Provides Energy Education Scholarships to Local Educators

early 300 teachers became the students from across northwest Florida and Alabama at an energy education workshop co-hosted by West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC) in June. “I really enjoyed this conference, and as a new teacher, walking into a classroom without many supplies, this conference was very worthwhile,” said Carol Boswell, who is a 7th grade teacher at Vernon Middle School. She will begin her first full year of teaching this month. The second annual Empower Energy Education Workshop provided fun, engaging, fast-paced activities about electric generation and distribution with a focus on energy education. Attendees received the tools and curriculum necessary to integrate the activities into their classrooms. These materials, aimed at K-12 students, include hands-on activities designed to teach tomorrow’s leaders about all energy sources – from fossil fuels to renewables. The curriculum was developed by the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project and is used in more than 65,000 classrooms nationwide. These resources meet students’ diverse needs and learning styles. The Empower Energy Education Workshop is part of an initiative to promote a balanced approach to energy education in the classroom. Holly Nichols, a 3rd grade teacher at Riverside Elementary School said Empower was informative and fun at the same time. “I LOVED this conference. I probably took more away from this one than I have in other conferences combined,” said Marie Ellenburg, a fifth grade teacher at Bonifay K8. “The presenters were extremely knowledgeable and concepts taught were on the level of the students we teach. The hands-on activities were great.

“One of our founding principles as a cooperative is providing education and learning to our members,” said Russell Dunaway, WFEC Executive VP & CEO. “As the electric utility industry continues to change due to innovations in technology, we believe it is imperative to ensure educators have the information and materials needed to inform future generations about the types of energy available, where it comes from, how it is generated and also how it impacts their families, our economy and quality of life.
