Longtime Trustee Leaves Legacy of Helpfulness & Kindness

“

If I can’t help someone, I will never do them any harm.” That’s a philosophy West Florida Electric Cooperative Trustee, Eugene Alford lived by each day. Alford died last month and this legacy of helpfulness and kindness is just one of many he leaves behind. Alford was born July 1, 1932, and was a lifelong resident of Jackson County in the Shady Grove Community. He was a 1951 graduate of Grand Ridge High School and attended Lively Technical School in Tallahassee where he graduated as a licensed mechanic. He also took several courses at Chipola College. Alford and his wife, Elizabeth “Liz”, were married for fifty-eight years and had three children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Alford was a self-employed farmer in Jackson County for over 50 years and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War Conflict. During his farming career, he raised cattle and grew peanuts, continued on page 4

Choosing the Right Air Conditioner for Your Home

eplacing an inefficient air conditioner (AC) with a more efficient model could significantly reduce your electric bill. A new AC unit is 20 to 40 percent more efficient than one from the 1990s. Replacing an aging system now, before summer starts, could help you avoid delays. How much money you save by replacing your current AC unit depends on how often your AC runs and your comfort settings. very year, we take the time to thank the extraordinary lineworkers who dedicate their lives to keeping the lights on in our local communities. Twenty-nine lineworkers maintain 4,525 miles of line in West Florida Electric Cooperative’s (WFEC) four-county service territory, and without them, our world would be dark. We depend on our entire staff to keep WFEC running smoothly, but in April, we honor all the lineworkers who often find themselves in dangerous and challenging situations, so our lives may be a little bit brighter and safer every day. These brave men repair damaged lines and maintain critical infrastructure for our communities. Without their hard work and commitment to the job, our co-op would not thrive. t’s time for WFEC’s Annual Meeting/Member Appreciation Day! The board of trustees and employees invite all members to join us at the Graceville Civic Center (5224 Brown Street) on Saturday, April 22. Fred Watson plays lead flat top and sings harmony as well as lead vocals. Judy Cutchins sings harmony while James Fowler plays bass, Mike Sapp plays banjo and Stevie Elam plays mandolin. You can often find members of the band playing at several local Hardee’s restaurants during the week.
