Facilitated in water and classroom.
Certified through the Lifesaving Society AB/NWT Branch
Certification period: 2 years from the date of certification.

The Lifesaving Society's National Lifeguard (NL) certification builds on the fundamental skills taught in the Bronze Medallion and Cross courses. This program develops a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, builds physical endurance in the water and teaches the mature judgment needed to be a successful lifeguard. Participants will learn how to safely carry and remove distressed swimmers from the water, treat individuals in major first aid situations, and provide follow-up care for the aquatic environment. This course has 40 hours of instructional time. The time will be shared between the classroom and the swimming pool. 100% attendance is required. Homework assignments may be given out during the 40-hour instructional time. Candidates should bring a pen, extra paper, a water bottle, snacks, lunch/dinner, extra towels, swimsuit, deck appropriate footwear and goggles.
Those with long hair should bring hair elastics or wear a swim cap. Completion of this course is based on the instructor’s evaluation and completing all Alberta Lifesaving Societies Standards.
Please bring proof of prerequisites to the course.

Non-traditional play spaces are unique outdoor areas that go beyond the traditional playground. They are designed to encourage people of all ages to play, explore, be active, relax, and connect with others.
These spaces can support both active recreation, such as climbing elements, obstacle courses, outdoor games, and fitness equipment, and passive recreation, such as hammock gardens, nature areas, gathering spaces, interactive art, and quiet places to sit and enjoy the outdoors.
In short, non-traditional play spaces are creative places that bring people together and offer new ways to experience parks and public spaces.
Whether you're thinking about children, teens, adults, older adults, or spaces that bring generations together, we want to know what matters most to you!

Welcoming Week is Wetaskiwin's invitation to connect with nine days of events that bring newcomers and longtime residents together to celebrate what makes this the city we share. Whether you've lived here for decades or just unpacked your last box, we encourage you to come out, meet new friends and enjoy Wetaskiwin.
Welcoming Week is part of a global movement, marked by communities around the world each September. At its heart it's about belonging, building understanding between newcomers and longtime residents, and reminding all of us that Wetaskiwin is stronger when everyone feels at home here.
From September 9 to 17, you'll find something for every age and interest: family activities, cultural workshops and celebrations, open houses, and dozens of chances to meet your neighbours.
