Welcome to the 90th Annual Meeting & Business Summit! Ninety years is a remarkable milestone. For nearly a century, the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce has brought together business leaders, elected officials and decision-makers to discuss the issues that matter most to our state’s economy. As we gather for our 90th Annual Meeting & Business Summit, we are proud to continue that tradition. This year’s event is another record-breaker, a reflection of both the strength of our membership and the value of coming together to exchange ideas and perspectives. In a time when change comes quickly and challenges grow increasingly complex, opportunities to learn from one another and engage in meaningful conversations have never been more important. Our theme, A Legacy That Leads, recognizes the individuals, businesses and organizations whose leadership has helped shape West Virginia over the past 90 years. It also serves as a reminder that leadership is not reserved for a select few. It is demonstrated every day by employers creating jobs, educators preparing the next generation, entrepreneurs taking risks and community leaders working to improve the place we call home. Over the next three days, I encourage you to make the most of every opportunity this Summit offers. Attend a session outside your area of expertise. Introduce yourself to someone new. Kevin J. Craig
Kevin J. Craig was named executive vice president of GP Natural Resource Partners LLC in February 2021, after serving as executive vice president, coal, of GP Natural Resource Partners since September 2014. Mr. Craig previously served as vice president of business development beginning in 2005. He also represents NRP as one of its appointees to the board of managers of Sisecam Wyoming LLC. Mr. Craig joined NRP in 2005 from CSX Transportation. He has extensive marketing, finance and operations experience within the energy industry. Mr. Craig served as a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, having been elected in 2000 and reelected in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012. In addition to other leadership positions, Delegate Craig served as chairman of the Committee on Energy. Prior to joining CSX, he served as a captain in the United States Army. He serves as a member of the board of directors of Encova Mutual Insurance Company, West Virginia University Board of Governors, and the Buckskin Council of Scouting America. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accountancy from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from Georgia Southern University.
François Poirier
François Poirier is President and Chief Executive Officer of TC Energy, a North American energy infrastructure company operating across Canada, the United States and Mexico. Since 2021, he has led the company through significant transformation, advancing nation-building projects while strengthening the cross-border systems that move more than 30 percent of the natural gas used across the continent. In 2025, Mr. Poirier chaired the National Petroleum Council’s permitting study committee and helped shape From Bottleneck to Breakthrough: A Permitting Blueprint to Build, a report that called for regulatory changes to streamline permitting amid rising U.S. energy demand. Before joining TC Energy, he spent 25 years in investment banking, consulting and as a corporate director. A recognized advocate for strengthening North American economic resilience and energy security, he was named the Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 Business Leader of the Year and was recently appointed to the advisory committee on Canada-U.S. Economic Relations. Mr. Poirier serves on the boards of the Business Council of Canada, the American Petroleum Institute and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.

Chris Stirewalt
Chris Stirewalt serves as the political editor of NewsNation, upstart cable news network and The Hill, the country’s definitive digital source for non-partisan political news and information. Additionally, he anchors NewsNation’s Sunday public affairs program, The Hill Sunday (Sunday, 10 a.m. ET). He joined the network in May of 2022. A former political editor for FOX News Channel, he is a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), where he focuses on American politics, public opinion and the media. Mr. Stirewalt is also a contributing editor and columnist for The Dispatch and cohosts the podcast, “Not Dead Yet,” with former U.S. Senator and university president Ben Sasse. He is the author of the national bestseller Broken News: How the Media Rage Machine Divides America and How to Fight Back and Every Man a King in which he looks at American populism through the lives of seven famous populists.
Wren Baker
Wren Baker became West Virginia University’s Vice President and Director of Athletics in 2022, bringing more than two decades of leadership experience in collegiate athletics. Under his leadership, WVU has prioritized competitive excellence, student-athlete success, financial sustainability and facility enhancements while navigating the rapidly evolving landscape of college sports. Before joining WVU, Baker served as Director of Athletics at the University of North Texas, where he oversaw significant growth in fundraising, facilities, academic achievement and athletic performance. He previously held athletic leadership positions at the University of Missouri, the University of Memphis and Rogers State University. Known for his collaborative leadership style and strategic vision, Baker has served on numerous NCAA and conference committees and has been recognized nationally for his contributions to college athletics. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Southeast Missouri State University and a master’s degree from Missouri State University. Baker and his wife, Heather, are the parents of two daughters and are active members of the West Virginia University community.

Dr. Michael T. Benson
Michael T. Benson, a veteran higher education administrator, became the 27th president of West Virginia University on July 15, 2025. He brings three decades of academic and administrative experience in higher education to his role leading West Virginia’s flagship, land-grant, R1 institution into a new era. WVU is Benson’s 5th presidency. Prior to his arrival at Coastal Carolina in 2021, Benson led Snow College, Southern Utah University and Eastern Kentucky University. Born in Utah and raised in Texas and Indiana, Benson has worked and studied abroad for nearly seven years in Italy, England and Israel. He has received degrees from Brigham Young University, the University of Oxford (St. Antony’s College), the University of Notre Dame and Johns Hopkins University. He and his wife Debi are the parents of three children – Truman, Tatum and Talmage. He also has two older children from a previous marriage, Emma and Samuel.
Albert L. Wright, Jr.
Albert L. Wright, Jr., is the president and chief executive officer of the West Virginia University Health System, West Virginia’s largest health system and the state’s largest employer with more than 3,500 licensed beds, 4,600 providers, 39,000 employees and $8.6 billion in revenues. Before joining the Health System in September 2014, Wright served in a variety of senior-level leadership positions at some of the nation’s most prestigious healthcare systems and academic medical centers, including Ohio Health and UPMC. Since his appointment, Wright has led a fundamental transformation of the Health System, moving it from a holding company to a fully integrated network of 25 hospitals while significantly expanding its specialty and sub-specialty care in areas such as cancer, heart and vascular, and neuroscience, among others. Under his leadership, the System became West Virginia’s first and only multi-organ transplant center and opened a 150-bed Children’s Hospital in September 2022. Wright obtained his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from the University of Toledo, a Master of Health Administration from The Ohio State University, a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Florida and a Doctor of Public Health from the University of North Carolina.

Tony Caridi
Tony has one of the most recognizable voices in West Virginia broadcasting. Caridi has described WVU football and men’s basketball action since 1996, but his work with WVU dates to 1984 when he first came to Morgantown as a reporter for WAJR. He later became the sports director and took over as host of Statewide Sportsline. Caridi joined the Mountaineer Sports Network in 1987, which eventually led him to telecasts of college basketball games on MSN, the Atlantic 10 Television Network, and ESPN. In 1992 he became an announcer on Westwood One Radio Network’s college football game of the week, and in 1997 became WVU’s lead play-by-play announcer, broadcasting some of its biggest football victories including wins over Georgia, Oklahoma, and Clemson. In 2005, Caridi coined his popular phrase “It’s a great night to be a Mountaineer, wherever you may be!” His current work includes hosting radio shows for the Mountaineer Sports Network.
Jacki Vitiello
Jacki Vitiello currently serves as Director of Electric Transmission Planning for Dominion Energy, where she leads strategic initiatives to shape the future of the company’s transmission grid. With a focus on innovation, infrastructure investment and long-term strategy, she helps position the electric system to meet the evolving needs of customers and communities. Jacki’s journey in the energy industry began in 2010 after graduating from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Nuclear Engineering. She later earned her MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015. After building experience across multiple areas of the business, Jacki was named Director of Energy Supply in 2020, where she was responsible for balancing load and generation across Dominion Energy’s regulated fleet. In this role, she helped lead the company through some of the industry’s most challenging operating conditions, including Winter Storm Elliott. Managing energy supply during these critical events reinforced the importance of resiliency, reliability and proactive planning in an increasingly dynamic energy landscape. Today, Jacki leads a team responsible for transmission planning, large-load interconnection coordination, and grid expansion strategies that support growing energy demand, including significant economic development opportunities across the region. She collaborates with PJM, regulators, electric distribution companies and other stakeholders to identify infrastructure solutions that enable growth while maintaining reliable electric service.

Morgan K. O’Brien
Morgan K. O’Brien is Hope Gas’ Chief Executive Officer. He is a native Pittsburgher who was raised by a blue-collar Irish-Catholic family to value all people and all forms of work. His work ethic and value of other people helped him rise to become CEO at Duquesne Light Company, the electric provider for Western Pennsylvania. He later moved over to become the CEO at Peoples Gas serving Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Kentucky. In those roles, he was the face and voice of the hardworking employees who dedicated each day to helping the families and businesses they serve. He successfully helped grow both companies in terms of employment, customer base and in total investor value. He positioned the companies he led as true community partners and champions. He is doing the same with Hope Gas and the Hope Utilities family of companies. Hope Utilities drives economic development, creates family sustaining jobs and improves the quality of life in the regions it serves.
The Honorable Patrick Farrell
Patrick Farrell was elected in 2024 as Huntington’s 48th mayor. A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and a decorated combat veteran, he returned home in 2005 with his wife to raise their family and invest in West Virginia’s future. He brings a data-driven, business-minded approach to City Hall, shaped by an MBA from Duke University and a successful career in the technology and infrastructure industries. As an entrepreneur and business owner, he understands the importance of fostering economic opportunity and reducing barriers to growth. Patrick has served on the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce board, the West Virginia Economic Development Authority and other public and private boards. Before becoming mayor, he chaired the Marshall University Board of Governors, where he helped lead a pivotal turnaround that stabilized enrollment and finances and positioned the university for strong, sustainable growth. As mayor, Patrick is focused on strengthening public safety, investing in infrastructure and driving dynamic economic development to keep Huntington competitive, welcoming, and vibrant for generations to come.

Scott Raynes
Scott Raynes serves as the president and chief executive officer of Marshall Health Network (MHN). An Oak Hill, West Virginia native, Raynes has more than 30 years of experience in strategic health care leadership. He is known for driving innovation, expanding access to care and fostering strong partnerships that enhance population health. Prior to joining Marshall Health Network, he held executive roles in leading health systems across the country. Raynes began his health care career in West Virginia, serving in various leadership roles over 17 years, including president/CEO of the former HealthSouth. He went on to lead major health systems, including NorthCrest Health System in Tennessee, Baptist Hospitals, Inc. in Florida and most recently Southeast Georgia Health System, where he guided post-pandemic recovery efforts and implemented forward-thinking patient safety initiatives. His extensive experience includes overseeing teaching hospitals, community hospitals and multi-specialty physician groups, as well as managing graduate medical education programs. As president and CEO of MHN, he remains focused on enhancing health care quality and accessibility for the communities it serves..
Brad D. Smith
Brad D. Smith became president of Marshall University in January 2022 after a globally recognized career in leadership and philanthropy. He is the first alumnus in Marshall University history to serve as its president. Formerly CEO and executive chairman of Intuit, Brad cofounded the Wing 2 Wing Foundation with his wife, Alys, to support education and entrepreneurship in Appalachia. The foundation’s Ascend WV program recruits remote workers to West Virginia. He currently serves on the board of directors for Amazon and JPMorgan Chase and is also CoChair of the Southern Regional Education Board’s Commission on AI Education and a Board Advisor for DignifiHealth. A proud “boy from Kenova,” Brad has two daughters, Devon and Payton, and is committed to championing opportunities for his home state and its people.

Megan Archer
Megan Archer serves as President and CEO of the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce, leading initiatives that advance economic growth, business development, and regional collaboration across the Tri-State. She brings nearly two decades of experience in strategic communications, marketing and community engagement, having held leadership roles with Marshall Health Network, the West Virginia Department of Education and Marshall University. A graduate of the Chamber’s inaugural Leadership Huntington class, Megan is a passionate advocate for strengthening economic opportunity and quality of life throughout the region. She currently serves as Chair of the Economic Development Committee for the Huntington Tri-State Airport and was recently elected to the Board of Directors of Appalachia’s Front Porch, where she helps guide efforts to promote the Tri-State region’s tourism, cultural heritage, outdoor recreation and economic vitality through collaborative destination marketing initiatives. In addition, she serves on the boards of Advantage Valley, HADCO, Downtown Huntington Partners and The Junior League of Huntington. A native of Parkersburg and proud graduate of Marshall University and Marietta College, Megan is dedicated to building strategic partnerships that position West Virginia for longterm success, investment and growth.
Conrad Baston
Conrad Baston is a senior leader at Antero Resources, where he currently serves as Vice President of Procurement and Administration. Since joining the company in 2013, he has held key roles overseeing civil design and construction efforts, water infrastructure and operations, midstream projects and major operational initiatives across the organization. His work reflects deep expertise in civil engineering, water systems and large-scale project management within the energy sector. Before Antero, Conrad Baston built a diverse career spanning engineering consulting, entrepreneurship, and public service. He has worked as a dam safety engineer for the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, owned and operated his own engineering and construction firm and supported water supply and infrastructure projects across the region. He holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in civil engineering from West Virginia University. Conrad is also a registered professional engineer in the State of West Virginia.

Chris Weikle
Chris Weikle serves as Director of Government Affairs for Expand Energy, the largest natural gas producer in the United States. He oversees government relations activity in Ohio, West Virginia and works with a team to handle activities at the federal level. He graduated undergrad and law school from West Virginia University. Chris worked for all three branches of government before joining the private sector to begin his government relations career at LGCR Government Solutions where he represented clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small non-profits. He left the firm to take an opportunity with Southwestern Energy which in 2024 merged with Chesapeake Energy to form Expand Energy, America’s premier natural gas company, fueling a more affordable, reliable and lower carbon future. He has been married to Kelly Matheney Weikle for fourteen wonderful years. Kelly and Chris have been blessed with two magnificent children, Ainsley Jane Weikle (12) and Landon Arlo Weikle (9).
John Bane
John Bane serves as Director of Government Affairs at EQT Corporation, the largest fully integrated producer of natural gas in the United States, where he leads state government activity across Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia. He has been with EQT for nearly a decade, joining the company in November 2016 after working for them as a consultant for two years. During his tenure, Bane has notched numerous key policy wins on behalf of the company across EQT’s operational footprint. He serves on the executive board of the Marcellus Shale Coalition and is also a board member of the Gas and Oil Association of West Virginia (GO-WV), along with other industry trade organizations. Before joining EQT, Bane worked in government relations and public affairs consulting and served in government affairs for a statewide labor union. He got his start on the staff of U.S. Congressman Tim Holden and later served as Deputy Director of the Governor’s Office of Public Liaison under Governor Ed Rendell in Pennsylvania. Bane earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Commonwealth University-Mansfield (formerly Mansfield University of Pennsylvania).

Tom J. Hurney, Jr.
Tom Hurney is a trial lawyer with Jackson Kelly PLLC in Charleston, West Virginia. Over his 43 years, Tom has litigated and tried serious injury, wrongful death and commercial cases, and acts as regional and national counsel for firm clients. He has an active appellate practice. Jill Cranston Rice
Jill Cranston Rice is the Managing Partner of the Morgantown office of Dinsmore & Shohl LLP, where she serves on the Firm’s Board of Directors and co-chairs the firm’s Health Law and Public Policy Practice Group. Marc Williams
Marc Williams is the Managing Partner of the West Virginia office of Nelson Mullins. He is also the leader of a team of 25 trial and appellate lawyers in five offices. He has a national trial and appellate practice involving complex civil litigation, class actions, product liability, data breach and privacy and commercial litigation. He has had first chair responsibility for over 150 trials and appeals in his career. Kaitlyn N. Pytlak-Morra
Kaitlyn N. Pytlak-Morra serves as Legal Counsel for the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, where she has worked since 2022. In this role, she provides legal counsel and supports the Chamber’s legislative, regulatory, policy, and advocacy efforts on issues affecting West Virginia’s business community. Her work encompasses state and federal legislation, regulatory matters, litigation and appellate issues, and strategic policy initiatives. Prior to joining the Chamber, Pytlak-Morra served as Staff Attorney to then-Chief Justice Evan Jenkins of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia, where she worked on complex legal and appellate matters before the state’s highest court. She previously served as a government affairs consultant for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and practiced medical malpractice defense at Flaherty Sensabaugh Bonasso. Pytlak-Morra is a graduate of The Linsly School and Wheeling Jesuit University. She earned her law degree from West Virginia University College of Law, where she served as Executive Notes Editor of the West Virginia Law Review. She also holds an Executive Certificate in Leadership from the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business. She lives in Charleston, West Virginia with her husband, Vincent.

Located near West Virginia University’s Evansdale campus, AntiquiTea House serves students, longtime residents, and visitors while also hosting events designed to bring people together. Traci believes a small business can be more than a place to make a purchase; it can help create connections and strengthen communities. Mario Acosta-Velez
Mario Acosta-Velez is Vice President of Local Engagement and Corporate Social Responsibility for Verizon East / Central Region, where he leads strategy development and execution focused on regional high-impact Corporate Social Responsibility and local engagement initiatives. Mario has 20+ years leading stakeholder and community engagement initiatives, building and driving external national and local strategic partnerships. Leeann Kaminsky
Leeann Kaminsky is the Sr. Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer of the West Virginia University Health System. The West Virginia University Health System is the state’s largest health system and largest private employer and is comprised of twenty-five hospitals and has over 35,000 employees. WVU Health System serves West Virginia, Western Maryland, Eastern Ohio and Southwestern Pennsylvania. Leeann joined WVUHS in 2016. Since that time, she has led the integration of HR services across WVUHS including standardizing and integrating all benefit plans, compensation, HR operations/administration and policies and procedures. This has expanded the programs and services offered to employees and managers and improved the customer experience. Her most recent focus is on increasing workforce development programs, employee engagement and executive coaching. Prior to moving to WVUHS, Leeann spent sixteen years at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) in Pittsburgh, PA in various HR Leadership roles. She has over 28 years of Human Resources experience. Leeann obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Communications from The University of Pittsburgh and her Master of Arts in Human Resource Management & Industrial Relations from St. Francis College.

Marcus Keech
Marcus Keech leads Government Relations and Tri-Share Partnerships at Wonderschool, where he oversees advocacy across the company’s national footprint and supports state and local partners as they explore, design and launch Tri-Share child care programs. Before joining Wonderschool in May 2025, Marcus served as Director of Government Relations for the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce in Michigan. In that role, he led the Chamber’s work on education, workforce development, tax policy and regulatory reform. He also convened and led a statewide Child Care Tax Force, bringing together business leaders, bipartisan legislators, state agencies, child care providers and advocates to advance meaningful improvements to Michigan’s child care system. Earlier in his career, Marcus served as a policy advisor and legislative director in the Michigan House of Representatives, where he helped craft the nation’s first Tri-Share Child Care program in 2020, which launched in 2021. Sonya Hairston
Sonya Hairston is the CEO of YWCA Charleston, where she leads programs serving women, families, and children across the Kanawha Valley, including Mel Wolf Child Development Center. Since taking the helm in January 2025, Sonya has led an organization-wide financial and operational turnaround, partnering closely with Mel Wolf’s Executive Director to expand the center’s capacity and access; growing enrollment from 68 to 94 children and reducing the waitlist by 95%. She frames this as workforce infrastructure as much as child welfare: every seat added is a parent freed to work, and an employer able to retain them. Sonya also serves as YWCA Charleston’s primary fundraiser outside its grants team, engaging corporate and philanthropic partners on the economics of accessible childcare. She champions staff accountability and board alignment to build a culture of transparency, collaboration and measurable results. Sonya’s broader background spans corporate leadership, nonprofit management, executive search and higher education advancement, giving her a cross-sector view of how talent pipelines break down. Shinnston native Clay Riley, PE, was first elected to the House of Delegates in 2020 and currently serves as the vice chairman of the Finance Committee. During the legislative interim, he serves on the Economic Development as well as the Energy and Public Works committees, where he shares his professional experience in the development and growth of infrastructure throughout the eastern United States. Delegate Riley is a licensed professional engineer in the states of West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, North Carolina, Maryland and Utah and serves as an Executive Vice President at The Thrasher Group where he provides guidance for the strategic growth of the corporation’s infrastructure, energy, and industrial clients. He is the Past President of the American Council of Engineering Companies (West Virginia) and a member of its Water, Energy and Environment committee. He and his wife Whitney are the proud parents of four children.
Brian Dayton
Brian Dayton has been with the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce since June 2012. He serves as Vice President of Policy and Advocacy. In that role he leads the policy and government relations aspects of the Chamber, helping to articulate the Chamber’s positions to lawmakers, stakeholders and the general public. Prior to taking on his current position he served as the Director of Research and Member Communications. A native of Moundsville, West Virginia, Brian has a degree in Political Science from West Virginia University and received his master’s in public administration from West Virginia University in 2012. Prior to joining the West Virginia Chamber, he worked on several campaigns including Beth Walker’s campaign for the West Virginia Supreme Court in 2008. Brian is an avid target-shooter and a self-proclaimed novice chef. Brian and his wife, Ashley, reside in Hurricane, West Viginia, with their 8-year-old son, Hudson, and their 6-year -old daughter, Oakley.

The Honorable Shelley Moore Capito
Shelley Moore Capito was first elected to the United States Senate in 2014, and re-elected in 2020. She is also the first female Senator in West Virginia’s history and was elected with the largest margin of victory for a Republican in state history— winning more than 70 percent of the vote and all 55 counties, surpassing the previous mark she set in 2014 when she won more than 62 percent of the vote and all 55 counties. After serving West Virginia’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives for 14 years, and as a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates for four years prior, Senator Capito decided to run for Senate to be an even stronger voice for the Mountain State. Senator Capito currently serves on the Appropriations Committee; the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee; the Rules and Administration Committee; and the Environment and Public Works Committee as Ranking Member. A lifelong West Virginian herself, Senator Capito was born in Glen Dale in the Northern Panhandle. She holds a B.S. in Zoology from Duke University and a M.Ed. from the University of Virginia. She and her husband Charles L. Capito Jr. reside in Charleston. They have three adult children: two sons, Charles (wife Laura) and Moore (wife Liberty), and one daughter, Shelley (husband Colin Macleod). They have also been blessed with eight grandchildren: Celia, Charlie, Eliza, Rose, Arch, Macaulay, Lewis and Thomas.
Brent Keith
Brent Keith leads the land policy team for The Nature Conservancy’s North America Policy & Government Relations office. Brent works with leadership of federal agencies at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Department of the Interior to advance TNC’s land conservation goals. Brent has successfully lobbied for permanent funding for the Land & Water Conservation Fund and is a leader in TNC’s efforts to protect public lands and improve implementation of critical environmental laws including the Endangered Species Act and the National Environmental Policy Act. Previously, Brent was policy counsel for the National Association of State Foresters and held positions with the Council of Western State Foresters and a law firm in Portland, Oregon. He is a graduate of Pace University School of Law and holds a forestry degree from the University of Idaho. Brent is a member of the Oregon State Bar and the bar of the Supreme Court of the United States.

Bill Bissett is the President of the West Virginia Manufacturers Association (WVMA), which represents companies that make products in the Mountain State as well as associate member companies who are dependent on manufacturing for their livelihoods. Prior to his role with Senator Capito, Bissett led the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce, which is located in his hometown of Huntington, West Virginia. Sara Payne Scarbro is the Co-Founder of the West Virginia Grant Resource Centers and the Associate Vice President for Government Relations & External Affairs at Marshall University. As a lifelong West Virginian, Sara has spent most of her career in public service at the state and federal levels, and she brings an intense passion for her home state and its people into each project she leads. Sara is an expert communicator who has been recognized with the following awards for her leadership and public relations expertise: WV Public Relations Practitioner of the Year; 40 under 40 Generation Next; West Virginia Young Guns; and an alum of the ARC’s highly competitive Appalachian Leadership Institution. She is active on various boards like the World Affairs Council West Virginia, Public Relations Society of America’s West Virginia Chapter, Richmond Fed’s Rural Investment Collaborative Steering Committee, WV Public Education Collaborative and Huntington Area Chamber of Commerce and Cabell County Schools foundations. She is married to her college sweetheart, Derek, and they reside in Huntington with their dynamic daughter, Willa.

Brian Abraham is president and chief operating officer of Appalachian Power, an American Electric Power company serving customers in West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee. Before joining Appalachian Power, Abraham served as chief of staff to U.S. Sen. Jim Justice and to Justice during his second term as governor of West Virginia. He also served as general counsel for the Justice Administration, Logan County prosecuting attorney and a special assistant United States attorney for Kentucky and Tennessee. A U.S. Army veteran, Abraham recently retired as a brigadier general after 22 years of service, including active-duty service in Iraq and leadership roles with the 101st Airborne Division and West Virginia National Guard. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Fairmont State University, a master’s degree in strategic studies from the United States Army War College and a Juris Doctor from West Virginia University.

Dr. Paul J. LeBlanc is a Visiting Scholar and Special Advisor at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. Under the 21 years of Paul’s direction, SNHU grew from 2800 students to over 250,000 and is now the largest non-profit provider of online higher education in the country. Forbes Magazine has listed him as one of its 15 “Classroom Revolutionaries” and Washington Monthly named him one of America’s ten most innovative university presidents. He is the author of Students First: Equity, Access, and Opportunity in Higher Education (2021), winner of the 2022 Phillip E. Chris Beam
Christian Beam is President of West Virginia & Maryland for FirstEnergy. In this role, Beam is accountable for operational excellence, the overall customer experience and profit and loss financial performance, as well as regulatory strategy and outcomes in each state. Chris joined the company April 21, 2025. Previously, Chris was Executive Vice President and Senior Advisor at American Electric Power (AEP) where he oversaw generation, transmission and supply chain among other responsibilities. Serving in various executive roles throughout his 34-year tenure there, including Executive Vice President of Energy Service and President and Chief Operating Officer of Appalachian Power, Chris has extensive experience leading generation, distribution and transmission operations. Notably, Chris was instrumental in bringing the John W. Turk Jr. Coal Plant online. The 600-megawatt Turk plant, located in Fulton, Arkansas, is the first ultrasupercritical plant in the United States and began operations in 2012. Chris earned a bachelor’s degree in technical management from DeVry University. He has also completed the Executive Program at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, the AEP Management Development Program at The Ohio State University and the AEP Leadership Program at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Mark Mroczynski
Mark Mroczynski is President of Transmission for FirstEnergy. In this role, Mroczynski leads the strategic direction and efficient operation of FirstEnergy Transmission, LLC assets— American Transmission Systems, Incorporated (ATSI), MidAtlantic Interstate Transmission (MAIT) and Trans-Allegheny Interstate Line Company (TrAILCo)—as well as assets owned by Keystone Appalachian Transmission Company (KATCo). He is responsible for profit and loss of the company’s transmission business, directing the unit’s regulatory and policy strategy and building consensus and collaboration with transmission business investors. Mroczynski joined FirstEnergy in 2004 and he has held multiple leadership roles with the company. Prior to FirstEnergy, Mroczynski spent 18 years with J&L Specialty Steel, serving in several operations management and supply chain positions. He earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering from The University of Akron and an MBA from Kent State University. He is a registered professional engineer in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Mroczynski serves on the boards of ReliabilityFirst, Valley Link Transmission, Embracing Futures and Grid Assurance. He is also involved with the North American Transmission Forum, the Electric Power Research Institute, the Lean Construction Institute and the Association of Edison Illuminating Companies. In addition, he is a founding director of the Association for Iron and Steel Technology.

In this role, she works at the intersection of energy, community development, and public engagement – ensuring that large-scale energy investments are both responsive to and aligned with the communities they impact. Prior to joining FirstEnergy, Alex served as Executive Director of Generation West Virginia, a statewide organization dedicated to attracting, retaining, and advancing young talent across the Mountain State. There, she spearheaded innovative workforce and leadership initiatives, built cross-sector partnerships, and elevated West Virginia’s profile as a place where young professionals can thrive. Earlier in her career, Alex was Executive Director of Wheeling Heritage, where she led nationally recognized community revitalization efforts. Tonya Smith
Tonya Smith, PharmD, MHA, MBA, FACHE, is Chief Operating Officer and President of Winchester Medical Center for Valley Health, where she oversees hospital, ambulatory, and post-acute operations for the six-hospital system. Over a 25-year healthcare career, she has advanced from clinical pharmacy leadership to executive operations, serving in leadership roles at Valley Health and Munson Healthcare before returning to Winchester in 2022. The Honorable Patrick Morrisey
Patrick James Morrisey is the 37th governor of West Virginia. Morrisey took office on January 13, 2025. He campaigned across all 55 counties during his bid for governor, running to make West Virginia once again the shining state in the mountains. Before being elected governor, Morrisey served as West Virginia’s Attorney General since 2012. As Attorney General, Morrisey delivered some of the nation’s most significant legal victories to defend West Virginia. He prevailed in West Virginia v. EPA, which has been declared one of the most pivotal U.S. Supreme Court wins in decades. Morrisey championed major legal wins protecting West Virginians’ constitutional rights, delivering record-setting settlements against drug companies and preserving the West Virginia way of life. Morrisey has also fought to protect the unborn, preserve Second Amendment rights and defend girls’ sports.
FRIDAY GUEST SPEAKERS Dr. Ericke Cage
Ericke S. Cage, J.D., LL.M., is President of West Virginia State University (WVSU), a public, 1890 land-grant institution. A forward-focused, impact-driven executive, he is recognized for turning strategy into measurable outcomes that expand access, strengthen teams, and drive mission-aligned growth. Since joining WVSU in 2021 and becoming president in 2022, President Cage has led a comprehensive change agenda focused on fiscal resilience, student success, and partnership-powered growth. Under his leadership, WVSU reaffirmed accreditation, strengthened its financial position, secured more than $26 million in gifts, publicly launched a $25 million capital campaign that exceeded its goal in year two, and obtained $50 million in state funding for a new Agricultural Research Laboratory. He also advanced the Purdy School of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources through a historic $2.5 million gift. President Cage has expanded WVSU’s impact by launching its first doctoral program, growing cybersecurity programs, opening West Virginia’s first cybersecurity clinic of its kind and earning Carnegie Research College and University designation in 2025. Nationally, he chairs the APLU Council of 1890 University Presidents and the 1890 Universities Foundation Board and serves on the APLU Board of Directors. He holds degrees from Virginia Tech, Rutgers Law School and The George Washington University Law School.

Dr. Jim Nemitz
James W. Nemitz, Ph.D., who became the seventh president of West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in July 2018, has led the institution to national prominence as a recognized leader in producing graduates who practice in rural settings and as the leader in producing physicians who practice in West Virginia. Under Nemitz’s guidance, WVSOM, the state’s largest medical school, continues to maintain a 100% residency placement rate for graduates, with students entering primary care residency programs, including family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics, as well as popular specialties such as emergency medicine, psychiatry, general surgery, and OB-GYN. Since leading WVSOM through the COVID-19 pandemic, Nemitz has overseen facility growth, program expansion, curriculum changes and economic development. WVSOM is currently in the construction phase of a $35 million expansion of its science and research facility, which includes the development of the Greenbrier Valley Bio Hub, an innovation and collaboration center. Nemitz, who is also a tenured professor of anatomy with more than 30 years of service at WVSOM, earned a doctorate in anatomy from the Medical College of Virginia and completed postdoctoral fellowships in neuroscience at the Yale University School of Medicine and the Medical College of Virginia.
The Honorable Kris Warner
Kris Warner is West Virginia’s 31st Secretary of State. A proud West Virginian, he was raised in Kanawha County and attended West Virginia University. Secretary Warner serves as the State’s chief elections and business registration official. He oversees the award-winning WV One Stop Business Center, and newly created Office of Entrepreneurship (WVOE) that coordinates public and private activities and resources for small businesses and entrepreneurs. Secretary Warner is currently a Co-Chair of the Elections Committee for the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS). In July 2026, he was appointed to serve on the NASS State Executive Board as the Southern Region-Vice President, as was reappointed as the co-chair of the NASS Elections Committee. Prior to his election in 2024, Secretary Warner held several leadership positions including Chairman of the West Virginia Republican Party and Monongalia County Executive Committee, National Committeeman to the Republican National Committee, State Director for USDA Rural Development, and Executive Director of the West Virginia Economic Development Authority. Kris and his wife, Joyce, have been married for 37 years. They have five children, all of whom attended the United States Air Force Academy. They also have four grandchildren.

The Honorable Larry Pack
Larry Pack was elected West Virginia’s 26th State Treasurer in 2024. He is a proud West Virginian. Born and raised in eastern Kanawha County, Treasurer Pack discovered his love for accounting when he was in high school. He graduated from East Bank High School and earned his B.S. Degree in Accounting from the West Virginia Institute of Technology. Treasurer Pack has been a successful business entrepreneur for decades and is passionate about job creation, economic growth and elderly care in West Virginia. He was the founder and CEO of Stonerise Healthcare LLC, which served West Virginia and southeastern Ohio through skilled nursing centers, home health, hospice and therapy services from 2009 to 2022. Prior to Stonerise, Treasurer Pack owned and operated six other health care centers across West Virginia. In 2020, Treasurer Pack was elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates representing Kanawha County. He also served as State Revenue Secretary and Senior Advisor to Governor Jim Justice. He is currently the West Virginia National Committeeman for the National Republican Party and an active member of Bible Center Church. Treasurer Pack and his wife, Lisa, reside in Charleston. They have been blessed with six children and four grandchildren.
Steve Roberts
Steve Roberts is President of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, a statewide organization that seeks greater prosperity and a higher standard-of-living for West Virginians. The Chamber is the voice of business throughout West Virginia and was recently honored to receive the first-place award for membership growth and loyalty among state chambers of commerce in the United States. A West Virginia native and graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College, he previously worked for the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce and BASF Corporation. He has a long association with Marshall University and was inducted into the university’s Business Hall of Fame. Steve is the President of Leadership West Virginia, Chairman of the board of Jobs for West Virginia’s Graduates and Board President of the Woodlands, West Virginia’s largest not-for-profit retirement community. Steve holds several appointments on behalf of the U.S. Chamber, including Vice-Chair of its invitation-only Political Advocacy Committee and the Committee of 100. Steve is married and is the father of three children. He and his family reside in Charleston.

The Honorable JB Akers
JB Akers represents the 55th House District in Kanawha County while also serving as the House Judiciary Chairman. He focuses most of his legislative energy on economic development and jobs initiatives, which he believes are the best solutions to West Virginia’s current challenges. JB’s amazing wife Maryclaire is a Kanawha County Circuit Court Judge, and they are blessed with three great kids. When he has spare time JB enjoys the outdoors or speaking with large groups of successful people at business summits.
The Honorable David McCormick
As Owner and President of Omega Commercial Interiors, David brings more than 30 years of expertise in business strategy and sales leadership. He is involved in all facets of daily operations, including sales, marketing, strategic planning, financial management, and team development. Under David’s leadership, Omega has rapidly grown into a recognized leader in West Virginia’s commercial interior design and office furniture industry. His vision and hands-on approach have positioned the company for long-term success in a competitive market. David earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing from West Virginia University and continues to apply his business acumen to drive innovation and growth across the organization. David has served in the West Virginia House of Delegates for District 82 since 2024.

The Honorable Mike Oliverio
Senator Mike Oliverio has woven together three careers in service: as a soldier, a legislator and a small business owner. From 1985 to 1993, he served as a Lieutenant and Captain in the United States Army Reserve. In 1992, Mike was first elected as a member of the WV House of Delegates, and then in 1994, he was elected to the West Virginia State Senate for the 13th District, representing parts of Monongalia and Marion counties. He served from 1995 to 2010, totaling 18 consecutive years in political service. After a hard-fought narrow defeat in 2010 for US Congress and a 12-year break from political office to run his business and raise his family, Mike chose to serve again by running for the State Senate in his district, winning re-election in 2022. Senator Oliverio currently serves as Chair of the Senate Pensions Committee and as a member of the Banking & Insurance; Finance; Economic Development; Education; and Transportation & Infrastructure Committees. Mike is married to attorney Melissa Oliverio, and they are the proud parents of Michael and Maggie Oliverio, both graduates of WVU.
The Honorable Tom Takubo
Dr. Tom Takubo is a physician, business leader and West Virginia State Senator representing the 17th Senatorial District since 2014. Raised in Chapmanville, he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Marshall University and his medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at WVU Charleston and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at East Tennessee State University. In 2007, Dr. Takubo co-founded West Virginia’s largest private pulmonary practice, helping expand advanced pulmonary diagnostics and specialty care across the state. In 2022, he joined WVU Medicine as Executive Vice President of Provider Relations while continuing to practice medicine. Senator Takubo served as Majority Leader from November 2018 to January 2025. He previously served as chairman of the Health and Human Resources and Economic Development committees. Outside of his professional life, Dr. Takubo cherishes the time he spends with his loving family. He is happily married to Tori Takubo and is blessed to have three wonderful children: Maggie, Trevor and Molly.

The Honorable Roger Hanshaw
West Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Roger Hanshaw, elected in 2014, practices law, concentrating on environmental and technical issues in business transactions as well as regulatory compliance. He was selected as the 58th Speaker of the House in 2018. Speaker Hanshaw earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from Notre Dame and attended West Virginia University for his undergraduate and law degrees. He is one of about 250 certified professional parliamentarians in the U.S., regularly counseling government bodies and nonprofits and he has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America. He serves on the West Virginia Farm Bureau and Clay County Business Development Authority boards and volunteers for the West Virginia FFA. He and his wife have two daughters.
