Spencerport’s Route 259 bridge to close beginning July 9 The Union Street (Route 259) lift bridge over the Erie Canal in Spencerport will close on July 9 for a near-complete rebuild. The 115-year-old bridge is expected to remain in the upright position, closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic until fall of 2020. The NYSDOT posted detour uses West Ridge Road (Route 104), Manitou Road (Route 261), and Route 31. The Union Street bridge sidewalks will be closed to pedestrians and bicyclists during construction. Pedestrian traffic can utilize the adjacent Martha Street bridge. Pedestrian access to the Erie Canal Trailway will be maintained throughout construction, and boat traffic will not be impacted. Local vehicle traffic can use the bridges at Martha Street, Trimmer Road and Gillett Road. Although the bridge is closed, Spencerport is open for business and area merchants would appreciate your continued support. See the Spencerport Someplace Special community page inside this issue.
