•Alexander, Rachel (Cross), died September 27, 2025, at age 86. She is predeceased by her husband, William Alexander; brothers-in-law, Dan Alexander, Jay Alexander; nephew, Daniel Alexander; sister-in-law, Lori Alexander; daughter-in-law, Tracy. She is survived by her children, William, Brian (Tracy), Mike (Marlene); grandchildren, Kenneth (Sarah), Matthew (Sidney), Luke, Jordan, Mckensie; great grandchildren, Ryleigh Mae, Brooks; brothers-in-law, Larry (Jeanne), John (Peg), Steve (Michelle); and many nieces, nephews, and their children.

•Galletta, Joseph “Joe” Anthony, Jr., age 63, died September 28, 2025 Joe was born April 12, 1962 to the late Joseph Sr. and Catherine Galletta. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Shona; three daughters, Kalee (Vern) Thompson, Keersten (Taylor) Turcotte, and Kenzie (Frank) Affronti; two grandchildren, Beau and Luciano; his three sisters, Nancy (James) Falanga, Kathleen (Terry) Kinney and Ann (John) Schaefer; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. Joe worked at Eastman Kodak Company for 32 years, and later for the University of Rochester Medical Center. He was a self-taught and remarkably knowledgeable mechanic. Beyond his love for machines and tools, Joe had an instinct to nurture and protect—whether it was the natural world around him or the family he loved more than anything. Known for his acts of service, tireless work ethic, sharp wit, and remarkable knack for fixing things, he was a true jack of all trades who was fiercely loved and will be deeply missed.

•Deyager, Tonia, age 54, died September 27, 2025. She was born July 8, 1971 in Brockport. Tonia was predeceased by her father Dale Hughes, and brother Dale Hughes Jr. She is survived by her loving children, Felisha (Jeff) Lutes and Joshua Deyager; grandchildren Jeremy, Kyle, Nathan Lutes and Jaxson Deyager; her devoted companion Todd Clay; his mother Dorothy Webster; and his children, Ashley and Justin Clay; grandchildren Josie and Loretta Weston, Carson, Gavin, and Lydia Clay; mother Wilma Wright; and sisters Vickie Hughes and Tammy Cooper; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tonia was a very hard worker and was employed at Wendy’s in Brockport for many years. She enjoyed knitting blankets, watching movies, and putting together puzzles. •Warner, Brian K., died unexpectedly September 28, 2025, just shy of his 63rd birthday. He is survived by his brother, John (Julie) DeLorme of Tallahassee, Florida. Brian was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Warner, his mother, Theda (Crowell) Warner, and his brother, Wayne Warner. Brian was known for his artistic talents, particularly his exceptional skills as a painter. His works were filled with vivid colors and profound expression. He was a self-proclaimed chef who delighted in the culinary arts. He loved to cook for family and friends. Brian’s sense of humor was infectious, and his ability to entertain was legendary among his circles. He had a unique talent for making others smile, and his laughter could light up any room.

•Garwood, Margaret Jill, (formerly of London, England) died September 25, 2025, at age 93. Jill was born in London, England, to the late John Francis and Edith Louise (Barnes) Quicke. Predeceased by her husband, Reginald W. Garwood and sisters, Daphne Bauml (England) and Jocette Keepin (Australia). She is survived by her sons, Colin (Annie) of Irondequoit; David (Cathy) of Massachusetts; Michael (Sue) of North Carolina; and Andrew of Rochester; nine grandchildren, Lauren (Peter) Green; Jonathan (Voula); David; Julie (Leury) Laureano; Erica (Ben) Bennett; Sarah; Matthew (Maria); Mason and Alexandra; four great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Margery Rocha Diniz and family in Portugal and Wisconsin; nieces, nephew and cousins in England, Australia, New Zealand, Spain and Germany; her loving companion, Hal Vanderbush; and very special friends here and around the world. After becoming a citizen and living in the US for 66 years, she never lost her British accent or love for everything from her homeland. She worked in the Spencerport School District as a Secretary and as the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Athletics for many years.

Her Memorial Service will be held at the Congregational White Church in Spencerport, Friday, October 3, at 11 a.m. with a reception immediately following. Rev. Harold Vincent Lloyd, Jr.

On September 24, 2025, Rev. Harold Vincent Lloyd, Jr., affectionately known as “Skip” by his family and friends, was called to his heavenly home. Born on January 18, 1947, in Berkeley, CA, Rev. Lloyd was a compassionate and humble servant of the Lord who devoted his life to his faith, his family, and his community. His unwavering commitment to his religious calling was a testament to his profound belief in the words of Micah 6:8, “He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”

Rev. Lloyd spent his career as an ordained clergyman, providing spiritual guidance and support to his many congregants. His spirited sermons and wise counsel were a beacon of hope for all who sought comfort and understanding, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. In his retirement years, Rev. Lloyd took great pleasure in coloring mandalas and writing limericks, activities which he

age 92, of Spencerport and Palmyra, died September 29, 2025. Robert was born in Oxford, NC, to the late John E. Owen and Lelia Riggan Owen. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan E. Owen; his son-in-law, Cory L. Doty, and his in-laws; Gilbert and Charlotte Hess. He was also predeceased by four brothers and five sisters. Robert is survived by his three children; Jeffrey (Blanca) Owen, Terry Owen, and Kimberly Doty; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike White) Owen, Scott (Jess) Owen, Indira (Greg) Danner, Tyler (Kate) Owen, Sarah (Rick) Izzo, Spenser Robert Doty, and Carter Owen Doty; and five great-grandchildren. Robert was a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force and was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 45 years. He had a successful career as a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor. Robert found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Brockport NY Forward October 7

The Village of Brockport was selected as one of the Finger Lakes region’s recipients of a $4.5 million NY Forward grant. NY Forward is a statewide initiative that provides funding for high-priority projects designed to boost local economies and transform village centers where the next generation of New Yorkers will want to live, work, and raise a family.

The fifth and final Local Planning Committee (LPC) meeting for the Brockport NY Forward effort will be held on Tuesday, October 7, at 6 p.m. in the Parish Center at the Church of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 152 Main Street, Brockport. At this meeting, the committee will hear

community feedback from the public workshop and online survey. They will receive updates on proposed projects and finalize the list of project proposals that they will recommend to the State for NY Forward funding. Westside House Basketball

This league will consist of Thursday night practices and Saturday practices and games. All games are held at the Community Center. A jersey is included in the price for each participant. Saturday practices/ games are held between the hours of 9am-3pm. Thursday practices are held between the hours of 5:30-8:30pm. Brockport Kiwanis helps fund Oak Orchard Health diaper bank

During the Oak Orchard Health (OOH) Board meeting on September 24, the Board heard about the urgent need for diapers both in the migrant farmworker community and among OOH’s patients with family incomes at 250% of the federal poverty level or less.

Oak Orchard Health maintains one of the few, very rare diaper banks in the area, and the bank is currently depleted. The health center has applied for grants, expected to be awarded in November or later, that would focus

on supplying the diaper bank and OOH patients.

During the Board meeting, the Brockport Kiwanis Club presented Karen Kinter, CEO of Oak Orchard Health, with a $1,500 donation that can be utilized to resupply the diaper bank and allow this service to continue until the larger grants are awarded. OOH currently serves approximately 755 patient families.

Mayer appointed as Oliver Middle School Principal

The Brockport Central School District has named Laura Mayer, Ed.D as the new Principal of A.D. Oliver Middle School. Her appointment was approved by the Board of Education during the September 16 meeting, and she will assume her new role on Monday, October 6, 2025.

Dr. Mayer brings extensive educational leadership, student support and instructional experience. She recently served as Assistant Principal at Merton Williams Middle School in the Hilton Central School District.

Throughout her career, Dr. Mayer has demonstrated a strong commitment to student achievement and has a distinguished academic background. She earned her administrative degree from SUNY Brockport and completed her Doctorate in Educational Leadership at the University of Rochester in 2024. She is dedicated to fostering student growth, nurturing a positive school culture, and supporting the professional development of staff.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Mayer to our administrative team,” said Superintendent Sean Bruno. “Her leadership, dedication to student-centered practices, and passion for inclusive education make her an excellent addition to the A.D. Oliver Middle School.”

Prior to that role, Mayer spent over a decade teaching Math and Science in a consultant classroom with both special education students and ELL students, providing her with a robust foundation in instructional practices and student-centered learning. She also previously taught at NorthStar Christian Academy.

Finger Lakes State Park 2025-2026 hunting schedule

Fred Bonn, Regional Director of the Finger Lakes State Parks, has announced the 2025-2026 hunting schedule for the region’s state parks. The complete list of parks and the types of hunting that are allowed can be found at: https://tinyurl.com/mkxnf524.

For all state parks, hunters must check with the park office to obtain a self-issue permit for any hunting and are responsible for referencing the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (D.E.C.) Hunting and Trapping Guide for the current dates and additional rules.

Other Park Rules and Regulations that apply:

•All portable tree stands must have the owner’s name, address, and phone number. They must be removed at the end of the season unless otherwise noted.

•Safety zones and restricted areas are posted to ensure the safety of other park patrons and regional personnel.

Signs will be posted at all parks during hunting season to notify patrons of this activity.

•Handguns are not permitted in any State Park.

•No trapping is allowed at any of the State Parks in the Finger Lakes Region.

•A valid New York State hunting license with the proper hunting credentials must be carried with all hunters at all times.

Spencerport, Someplace Special!

Spencerport celebrating Erie Canal bicentennial with Big Ditch Day October 11

The Spencerport Depot & Canal Museum will close out a successful season with a special event on Saturday, October 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Big Ditch Day will celebrate the bicentennial of the Erie Canal with history, music, and other activities throughout the day. It is part of the I Love NY Path Through History weekends.

Big Ditch Day begins at 11 a.m. with teams from the Genesee Country Village & Museum playing 19th-century style base ball at Heritage Park, off Spencerport Road across from the high school. Bring a lawn chair. Also at 11 a.m., local resident Jim Morgan will kick off the day at the Depot with a lively hour of music. Jim is a volunteer at the Depot and a lifelong resident of Spencerport.

Bridget LaDuca from the Ogden Farmers’ Library will offer a special storytime and

activity for children at the Depot from noon to 1 p.m., followed by a rollicking good time with The Biscuit Brothers Wonderfully Wobbly Salute to Spencerport, 90 minutes of music and comedy focused on the Erie Canal.

If you missed their Fringe Festival show, here’s your chance to see this one-of-a-kind act.

Throughout the day, visitors can take a walk through history along the canal towpath, which will be lined with posters about the history of the Erie Canal, Spencerport, and Ogden. The Ogden Historical Society and Village Historian Ginny Parker will be on hand exhibiting some fascinating items of Spencerport and Ogden history, and Rochester Arc & Flame will demonstrate the art of blacksmithing, which was critical for 19th-century canal and farm businesses.

The Owasco canal boat will be docked at the Depot, with the owners offering tours and answering questions about the vessel. Inside the Depot, visitors will have the opportunity to browse museum exhibits and check out the gift shop.

2025 has been a very successful season for the Depot & Museum, which also functions as a visitors’ center. The Depot welcomed more than 2,500 visitors and hundreds of boats from May through September. Big Ditch Day will close out the season with a party.

7 Brew cuts ribbon in Brockport, donates $10,145 to Golisano Children’s Hospital

7 Brew, the drive-thru coffee concept, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday, September 24, at 6517 Brockport Spencerport Road to celebrate the grand opening of its newest New York stand. Striving to be a good community partner, 7 Brew Brockport presented a check for $10,145.34 to Golisano Children’s Hospital - Rochester (URCH).

“We are excited to continue our growth in Upstate New York and are looking forward to getting to know and serve our neighbors in Brockport,” said Nick Vidal, director of operations for Brew Team New York. “It’s an honor to partner with URCH, continuing 7 Brew’s nationwide partnership with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, to help children in our own backyard.”

To kick off the opening celebrations, 7 Brew Brockport hosted a donation weekend from September 12-14, where customers could try 7 Brew and “pay what they want,” as a donation to URCH. Representatives from the organization attended the ceremony to accept the donation.

“The generosity of our community fuels everything we do,” said Betsy Findlay, Senior Director of Advancement at Golisano Children’s Hospital. “From supporting specialized pediatric services to helping create spaces that comfort and heal, local fundraising efforts truly change lives. Free grief support group for substance use loss

The Monroe County Department of Public Health Addiction Services’ Improving Addiction Coordination Team (IMPACT), in conjunction with Delphi Rise, is offering a new grief support group for individuals affected by substance use-related loss of a loved one. The free sessions are offered both in-person and online.

“Losing someone to substance use can be isolating and many families carry that grief in silence,” said Monroe County Commissioner of Public Health Dr. Marielena Vélez de Brown. “This group offers a safe place to share those experiences, connect with others who understand and begin to heal. By creating space for care and community, we can help people move through their grief with support rather than stigma.”

Individuals who experience the loss of a loved one to substance use often face complex emotions and a lack of understanding from those around them. Dedicated grief support groups provide an opportunity to share experiences in a safe environment, gain practical tools for coping and build connections with

others who have endured similar loss. The meetings are offered during day and evening hours.

Daytime meetings are held in person at 72 Hinchey Road, Rochester, from noon to 2 p.m. on the following dates: October 16, November 6, November 20, December 4, and December 18. Walk-ins welcome.

MAG’s Museum of the Dead turns 10

The Memorial Art Gallery (MAG) marks a milestone this fall with the tenth anniversary of Museum of the Dead, its eerily popular Halloween party, coming up on Friday, October 24.

For a decade, Museum of the Dead has fused art, music, and spooky spectacles into one unforgettable night. This year’s celebration features ghost tours through the historic Cutler Union tower, tarot card readings in the Renaissance Gallery, a late-night organ concert, and access to MAG’s world-class collections. Guests can dance to a live DJ in the Vanden Brul Pavilion, enjoy a screening of American Psycho in the M&T Bank Ballroom, and fuel up with frighteningly good food from some of Rochester’s favorite trucks.

Parma Hilton Historical Society will host Jack Kowiak presenting his program entitled “Spooky Goddesses” on Monday, October 13, at 7 p.m. in the Ingham Room of the Hilton Community Center. Refreshments will be served.

Holley’s Family Fitness Center has reopened for school year

Holley Central School District’s Family Fitness Center reopened for the 2025-26 school year on October 1. Days of operation are Monday through Thursday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Elementary School (ES). Residents may park at the fireman’s field and access the main ES entrance using the sidewalks.

The center is open to district residents age 10 and older. Any elementary student, age 10 or older, must have a parent/guardian present with them while using the center. Children

under the age of 10 are prohibited from being in the fitness center during community use hours. Children cannot be left unsupervised at any time while in the Elementary School building. Returning and new fitness center users must sign a waiver form each year before using the center. Blood drive October 29 in memory of Joseph Marhatta

A blood drive in memory of Joseph Marhatta will be held on Wednesday, October 29, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the American Legion, Ferris Goodridge Post 330, 691 Trimmer Road, Spencerport.

Joe Marhatta worked for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department for over 30 years, retiring as an Investigator-Sergeant. After a two-year stint as a private investigator, he served for 10 years as a Violent Felony Investigator at the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office, retiring in 2011.

Joe was also involved in the community. He served as Assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 292 in North Chili, sponsored by the Chili Lions Club, and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. Active in the American Legion for 23 years, Marhatta held the various offices, including Commander of Monroe County American Legion and Commander of Ferris Goodridge Post 330.

Hilton CSD inducts five into Alumni Hall of Fame

On September 19, the Hilton Central School District welcomed five inductees into its Alumni Hall of Fame: Randy Jensen, Class of 1976; Nancy Leport Whelehan, Class of 1970; Jeffrey Sorensen, Class of 1988; Lt. Col. John Franz, Class of 1993; and Karen Hermance, Class of 1974. This brings the total number of inductees to 60.

C-C students selected for youth orchestras

Several Churchville-Chili High School students have been selected to perform with prestigious youth orchestras this year.

Sophomore Lauren, a violinist, earned a spot with the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Sophomore Juliana (cello), junior Gabby (bass), and senior Taylor (viola) were chosen to perform with the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra. As part of this honor, the Hochstein students will travel to France in the spring

to perform internationally with the group.

“We couldn’t be prouder to have these students representing our district. The incredible commitment and dedication it takes to be accepted into the RPYO, as well as attend and prepare for their busy practice and performance schedule, is truly commendable. I can’t think of better ambassadors for the C-C Music Program,” said Director of Fine Arts Jeff Smith.

Lt. Col. John T. Franz, Class of 1993

Colonel Franz’ career with the United States Army began at the West Point Military Academy, where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Aeronautical Systems.

In 2001 Col. Franz graduated from the United States Army Aviation Center as a UH-60 helicopter operator. Two years after that he would serve his first of three combat tours in Afghanistan, flying countless missions as the pilot of a Blackhawk helicopter.

In 2017 he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and was appointed as commander of the U.S. Army Aviation Battalion at Camp Zama, Japan. During his time in the Army, Col. Franz was awarded 26 medals for his service, including two Bronze Stars, two Air Medals and three Meritorious Service Medals. He retired from the Army after serving more than 28 years.

Col. Franz has worked with and supported families and soldiers through the Family and Soldiers Readiness Group at Camp Zama, Japan and has also been very active in numerous churches as both a leader and Sunday School teacher.

Col. Franz now lives in Corpus Christi, Texas with his wife Tracy.

Karen Hermance, Class of 1974

Karen Hermance is Board President of the Sally Edelman Harry Gardner Cancer Research Foundation. It was established in 1984 with the goal of raising $1,000,000 for cancer research. Today it has continued raising these crucial funds and has donated more than $1.5 million to the Wilmot Cancer Institute. The foundation’s mission was to allocate all funds raised directly to research projects, avoiding administrative costs. Partnering with the University of Rochester ensured donations directly supported the Wilmot Cancer Institute. The foundation has contributed “seed” grants to Wilmot researchers, encouraging further funding from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and National Institutes of Health (NIH). This strategy has secured over $8 million in grants for promising projects.

As one of her nominators Tiffany Paine-Cirrincione stated, “Karen is an inspiration to the women of my generation; teaching us by example that one person’s voice, perseverance, and compassion for their community can make a tangible impact.”

Randy Jensen has literally dedicated his life to serving others. In 1978, at the age of 20 he joined the Lake Shore Fire Department. He rose through the ranks and served two separate three-year terms as Fire Chief. At the same time he was holding this volunteer position, he was also working full-time with the Ridge Road Fire District.

Mr. Jensen was also selected to serve the Monroe County Fire Bureau as the 2nd Battalion Deputy Fire Coordinator. Serving in this role from 20072019, he worked to coordinate firefighter and public safety training, as well as assisting in emergency response situations by providing assistance to incident commanders at active structure fires, special operations, hazardous materials incidents, and the coordination of mutual aid.

As committed as he has been to the local community, his efforts with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation might be even more impressive. The NFFF’s mission is to honor America’s fallen fire

heroes, supporting their families, colleagues, and organizations, while working to reduce preventable firefighter death and injury. For 12 years Mr. Jensen served as the Chairman for the Rochester Area NFFF Golf Tournament. Under his leadership it grew to be the largest tournament of its kind in the nation, raising more than $750,000.

Nancy Whelehan Leport, Class of 1970 Ms. Whelehan Leport is probably best known as the face of the Hilton Alumni Association, but she is so much more than that. Her commitment to community service began in her senior year when, as an 18-year-old she organized Hilton’s first Earth Day celebration. She climbed aboard a Town of Parma truck filled with recyclable bottles and cans and delivered them to Wegmans headquarters, urging them to begin a recycling program.

Ms. Whelehan Leport earned her Master of Divinity from Colgate Rochester Divinity School in 1990 and embarked on a 27-year ministry career that touched numerous communities and countless lives. She founded the LeRoy Christian Community Project, a cooperative involving multiple churches. This innovative program provided essential services including after-school programs, teen drop-in centers, and caregiver support groups, directly improving hundreds of families’ lives. She also established Real Life Programs, providing workshop and retreat leadership, life coaching, leadership coaching, and church coaching services.

As President and co-founder of the Hilton Alumni Association, she transformed initial pledges of $20,000 into a thriving organization that has awarded multiple scholarships annually to Hilton graduating seniors, provided classroom grants to teachers for unfunded educational projects, created lasting connections between the school district and broader Hilton community, and expanded membership across multiple decades of Hilton graduates.

Jeffrey Sorensen, Class of 1988

Mr. Sorensen excelled both in the classroom and on the soccer field during his time at Hilton High School. A member of the National Honor Society, he was also a starter on the 1987 New York State Championship Soccer Team. He continued that success at SUNY Oswego where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and also earned the 1991 SUNYAC Dr. T. Fred Holloway Award given for academic and athletic achievement.

Upon graduating from college, he went to work for Price Waterhouse Coopers, where he has been for more than 30 years. He is currently the Lead Engagement Partner on one of the firm’s largest and most iconic clients, IBM. Mr. Sorensen was also the partner assigned to the Eastman Kodak account when that company was going through its most difficult financial times.

Mr. Sorensen has contributed generously to the Hilton Athletic Department, and along with his wife Ginger, established the Jeffrey ’92 and Ginger Bray Sorensen ’93 Scholarship at SUNY Oswego. This scholarship was established to provide support for future generations of deserving students, particularly those students from disadvantaged backgrounds who did not have a lot of opportunity, with a goal of educating students who will contribute back to society.

Four area girls soccer teams among state ranked

2024 State Champion Byron-Bergen and 2023 titlist Spencerport find themselves in familiar territory near the top of the respective girls soccer classes in the September 23 New York State Sportswriters state rankings. They are joined by 2018 state champ Kendall and 2004 Sectional winner Churchville-Chili.

Byron-Bergen (7-2-0) was ranked second in Class C, but that was prior to their recent loss to Kendall (10-1-0), who was tied for 20th but will likely rise after beating the Bees 2-1.

Spencerport (7-0-1) was third in Class AA followed by Churchville-Chili (8-2-0) at 15th.

Kendall is getting offensive contributions from multiple players, but senior goalkeeper Brooke Rodas has allowed only six goals through 11 games with five of those coming in a loss to Class AA St. Mary’s from Long Island. She stood fifth in Section V in goals against at .53 with support from junior Addison Kludt at center-back, junior Keara Reed on the outside with sophomore Brynn Hardenbrook. Offensively, sophomore Ryleigh Denning and junior Sophia Picardo were among the top 30 in all of Section V in scoring with 31 and 30 points, respectively. And eighth-grader Jersie Drake chipped in five goals with four assists. Senior Alea Barrett, classmate Stella Kwiatek, and junior Olivia Sawyer each had two or more goals through the first 11 games.

“I think this year is our comeback year after losing in Sectional finals last year; we regrouped, we rebuilt and now I think we’re stronger than ever,” Picardo said. “We have a really strong offense and one of the better defenses in the whole GR (Genesee Region) and I would say all of Section V.

“We only lost four seniors, I think, and I knew from the beginning that we were going to be strong.”

“Denning has picked it up within this past year; we had a key player leave and she’s just covered the hole,” third year head coach Angel Rosario said. “She has stepped it up, has a great left and right foot on her, which makes her very dangerous player, and she’s not selfish—she’ll find a teammate who can make a better play at the time.”

Seniors Mia Gray (University of Florida commit) and Grace DiQuattro lead the Byron-Bergen attack and both are among top ten in Section V with 51 and 38 points, respectively. The Bees are getting secondary scoring from eight-grader Anastacia Kuszlyk (6-4), senior Elizabeth Starowicz (2-10), and sophomore Genevieve Smith (3-3), with junior Rylee Burch allowing just over one goal per game.

Spencerport was paced offensively by senior Emily Peacock’s nine goals with sophomore Ryan Smith, seniors Carley Oakden and Liana Tata, and freshman Sydney Wyant all scoring at least twice through the first eight games.

Freshman Elise Faix stood among the top 25 in Section V with 11 goals

to lead the Churchville-Chili in scoring with help from seniors Alexis Olsen (64) and Avery Aloi (3-1) and junior Ava Fedele (3-2). Senior Jillyan Ewing was tied for the team lead with four assists and chipped in a pair of goals.

The regular season ends in midOctober followed by the Section V playoffs and state championships.

Orleans County to host annual “Family Game Night”

The Orleans County Legislature, in conjunction with the county Youth Bureau, will be hosting its 11th annual “Family Game Night” on Thursday, October 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Dubby’s Tailgate, 165 South Platt Street, Albion. The event is free, however residents are asked to register in advance as seating is limited.

The event will feature free pizza, board games, prize drawings and other activities and promotions. There will be several display booths with county departments that will be providing information on various programs and services available to Orleans County families. Each family will also be given an opportunity to take home a free board game to start their own game night.

“Family Game Night has grown tremendously over the years, as many families love the idea of turning off all the electronic devices and taking part in an evening of old-fashioned fun,” said Legislature Chairman Lynne Johnson. “At the same time, the event helps us highlight important information about the programs, opportunities and services available to residents.”

Byron-Bergen names new Transportation Coordinator

Byron-Bergen Central School District has named Robert Wilkins as its new Transportation Coordinator. He has been with the District for 12 years in the roles of bus driver, cleaner, Head Bus Driver, and, on occasion, mechanic. In this role, he will coordinate the Transportation Department staff and ensure the safe and efficient delivery of students to and from school and school-related activities.

“Transportation is vital to the success of every district,” said ByronBergen Superintendent, Pat McGee.

“I am confident that Bob has the expertise to lead the department with continued excellence.”

Wilkins’ career in transportation began in his youth when he aspired to be a NASCAR driver or to build custom cars. Wilkins enjoys his job, especially greeting the elementary students (who know him as Mr. Bob)

each morning as they get off the buses to start their school day.

Prior to coming to Byron-Bergen, Wilkins worked as a mechanic, contractor, heavy equipment operator and repairperson, refuse collector, oil delivery person, petroleum delivery dispatcher, and professional musician.
