West Moreton Anglican College acknowledges the Yugara people as the First Nation custodians of the lands upon which our College stands.
For thousands of years the Yugara people have gathered on this country, to share knowledge, stories, and teachings.
We pay respects to their language, lores, customs, creation stories, culture, and traditions.
We pay tribute to Elders; past, present and to be. We acknowledge that within the boundaries of this country, there have always been places of teaching, researching, and learning, a tradition which we as a College proudly continue today.

ACADEMIC AWARD CRITERIA
These criteria apply to the awards presented to students at the beginning of each semester for academic achievement in the previous semester. There are five levels of award: For Senior School awards, the eligibility criterion is the Grade Point Average (GPA). The GPA is arrived at by converting A to E subject grades into a 15-point numerical scale and then averaging the point score over the number of subjects designated in the criteria for that year level. Data used for this calculation are taken from end of semester or end of unit reports. The award criteria have been designed to be consistent with the academic foci of the year levels to which they apply. They are also designed to be achievable and yet sufficiently discriminating to ensure that only those who demonstrate true academic excellence will attain the highest levels.
Academic Awards
1. Summa Cum Laude Award:
Years 11 and 12: Student achieves an average ‘A’ standard in their best five academic subjects (GPA of 14.0) with nothing less than a ‘B+’ in any academic subject.
Year 10: Student achieves an average ‘A’ standard in six out of seven academic subjects (GPA of 14.0). This must include an A or better in three of the four ‘core’ subjectsEnglish, Mathematics, Social Science, and Science, with nothing less than a ‘B+’ in any academic subject.
2. Magna Cum Laude Award:
Years 11 and 12: Student achieves an average ‘A-’ standard in their best five academic subjects (GPA of 13.0) with nothing less than a ‘B’ in any academic subject.
Year 10: Student achieves an average ‘A-’ standard in six out of seven academic subjects (GPA of 13.0). This must include an A- or better in three of the four ‘core’ subjectsEnglish, Mathematics, Social Science, and Science, with nothing less than a ‘B’ in any academic subject.
3. Cum Laude Award:
Years 11 and 12: Student achieves an average ‘B+’ standard in their best five academic subjects (GPA of 12.0) with nothing less than a ‘C+’ in any academic subject.
Year 10: Student achieves an average ‘B+’ standard in six out of seven academic subjects (GPA of 12.0). This must include a B+ or better in three of the four ‘core’ subjectsEnglish, Mathematics, Social Science, and Science, with nothing less than a ‘C+’ in any academic subject.
Note that for the purposes of award eligibility calculation, academic subjects do not include Religious and Values Education (RAVE), SpiritED or Instrumental Music.
4. Academic Line Awards
Academic Lines will be awarded to students in Years 7 to 12 who achieve a Magna Cum Laude award or better in Semesters One and Two of the same calendar year. This entitles the awardee to have the words Academic Excellence 2024 embroidered in gold on their blazer pocket.
For Year 12 only, if a student achieves Magna Cum Laude or better in Semester Two of Year 11 and Magna Cum Laude or better in Semester One of Year 12, they will be awarded an academic line at the mid-year ceremony in Year 12 to wear for the rest of that year.
5. Academic Merit
Years 10, 11 and 12: Students who improve their Grade Point Average by greater than or equal to 0.5 points from one semester or unit to the next.
