Acknowledgement of Country West Moreton Anglican College acknowledges the Yugara people as the First Nation custodians of the lands upon which our College stands. For thousands of years the Yugara people have gathered on this country, to share knowledge, stories, and teachings. We pay respects to their language, lores, customs, creation stories, culture, and traditions. We pay tribute to Elders; past, present and to be. We acknowledge that within the boundaries of this country, there have always been places of teaching, researching, and learning, a tradition which we as a College proudly continue today.
College Prayer Most holy and loving God, bless all of us who work in West Moreton Anglican College. Grant us the grace to accept your gift of education to the betterment of the world and the glory of your holy name. We pray that all of us in this College may understand fully, the importance and richness of our education, that we might have the enthusiasm to take every opportunity available to us to make ourselves better people. ACADEMIC AWARD CRITERIA These criteria apply to the awards presented to students at the beginning of each semester for academic achievement in the previous semester. There are three levels of award: 1. Summa Cum Laude With Highest Honour 2. Magna Cum Laude With High Honour 3. Cum Laude With Honour For Middle and Senior School awards, the basic eligibility criterion is the Grade Point Average (GPA). The GPA is arrived at by converting A to E subject grades into a 15 point numerical scale then averaging the point score over the number of subjects designated in the criteria for that year level. Data used for this calculation are taken from end of semester reports. For Years 5 and 6, a 5 point scale applies for the GPA calculations. Presentation Night awards are subject to different criteria addressed in separate documentation. However, where a Presentation Night award is made on the basis of a GPA calculation, the formulae shown below will also apply unless otherwise indicated in the criteria for that award. Data used for calculating Presentation Night award GPAs are taken from Semester One and Term Three reports. The award criteria have been designed to be consistent with the academic foci of the year levels to which they apply. They are also designed to be achievable and yet sufficiently discriminating to ensure that only those who demonstrate true academic excellence will attain the highest level. In considering the criteria for each year level, students, parents and teachers need to be mindful of the increasing levels of academic rigour and cognitive demand required as the years advance.
Year 7 and 8 Academic Awards 1. Summa Cum Laude Award: Student achieves an average ‘A’ standard in seven out of eight academic subjects (GPA of 14.0). This must include an A or better in three of the four ‘core’ subjects - English, Mathematics, Social Science and Science) with nothing less than a ‘A-‘ in any academic subject. 2. Magna Cum Laude Award: Student achieves an average ‘A-’ standard in seven out of eight academic subjects (GPA of 13.0). This must include an A- or better in three of the four ‘core’ subjects - English, Mathematics, Social Science and Science) with nothing less than a ‘B+’ in any academic subject. 3. Cum Laude Award: Student achieves an average ‘B+’ standard in seven out of eight academic subjects (GPA of 12.0). This must include a B+ or better in three of the four ‘core’ subjects - English, Mathematics, Social Science and Science) with nothing less than a ‘B-‘ in any academic subject.
