The album, The Drive For Home, which includes songs from across the genres will be Thomas's fifth album and he will again be donating all proceeds to charity. Previous beneficiaries of his recordings have included the RNLI, both Dingle and Doolin Coastal Rescue Services, Recovery Haven and the Kerry / Cork Cancer bus. cancer agent, particularly in hormone-sensitive prostate cancers. Steam or lightly cook these vegetables to preserve their benefits and flavour. Green tea also deserves a mention. Catechins, particularly EGCG, have been shown to slow prostate cancer cell growth and reduce inflammation. Similarly, turmeric’s active compound curcumin has anti-inflammatory and tumour-suppressing effects. A daily mug of green tea or a sprinkle of turmeric in soups, curries or scrambled eggs are simple ways to add protection. Soybeans, although sometimes controversial, have earned their place in this discussion. Populations with higher intakes of soy foods tend to have lower rates of both prostate and breast cancer. This is attributed to phytoestrogens, which help balance hormone activity, and the fibre content that helps eliminate excess oestrogen from the body. Other legumes and lentils offer similar benefits, especially when combined with a diet rich in fresh vegetables, minimal meat and little or no dairy. The protection likely comes from the combination of these habits rather than soy alone.
Welcome to Movember – the one month in the year set aside to shine a light on men’s health, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. With awareness campaigns in full swing, it’s a great time to look at what food can do for the men in our lives — and how nutrition plays a vital role in protecting the prostate from cancer and ageing. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men after lung cancer. According to the National Cancer Registry Ireland (2024), about 3,900 men are diagnosed every year – roughly one in eight men – and the numbers are rising. More strikingly, cases are appearing at a younger age. The prostate gland, part of the male reproductive system, produces a nourishing fluid that helps transport sperm. As men age, it may enlarge in a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which is not cancer but shares similar symptoms — frequent or difficult urination and incomplete emptying of the bladder. Traditionally seen as an older man’s disease, prostate cancer is now being diagnosed more often in men under 55. While improved screening plays a role, lifestyle and environmental factors are thought to contribute. Obesity, poor diet quality, chronic inflammation and exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals may all increase risk. Genetic mutations such as BRCA1 and BRCA2 — better known for their link to breast cancer — can also raise the likelihood of prostate cancer in younger men. A 2023 World Journal of Oncology study reported a 79% global rise in cancers among people under 50 in the past 30 years, with prostate cancer among those increasing.
Healthy fats are another cornerstone of prostate-friendly eating. Oily fish, nuts, seeds, olive oil, avocado and pumpkin seeds provide omega-3 and monounsaturated fats that help reduce inflammation and support hormone balance. In contrast, heated and processed vegetable oils, fried foods, trans fats, excess red meat, sugar and high dairy consumption increase risk. Key nutrients such as zinc, selenium, folate and B vitamins — found in Brazil nuts, wholegrains, fish and pumpkin seeds — further support prostate health and can be topped up with quality supplements if needed. Extracts from saw palmetto and pumpkin seed are often used to support prostate function, but always seek professional advice before supplementing. Pairing a colourful, plant-rich diet with regular movement amplifies all of these benefits. Exercise helps regulate hormones, improve insulin sensitivity and reduce inflammation — all essential factors in preventing not only prostate cancer but many chronic diseases that affect men’s health as they age. As with many cancers, risk increases with age because we are exposed to damaging factors for longer and our natural resilience declines. Yet there is plenty we can do. A colourful, wholefood diet, regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight can significantly reduce the risk and improve outcomes for those already diagnosed.

The World Cancer Research Fund Continuous Update Project (CUP) confirms that obesity and height (being tall) are linked with an increased risk of advanced prostate cancer. It also highlights that high dairy and calcium intakes, and low blood levels of vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) and selenium, may play a role. Unlike height, these factors can be influenced through diet and lifestyle. The most recent WCRF update (2023) again emphasises that maintaining a healthy body weight, being physically active, and eating a diet rich in vegetables, fruit, wholegrains and pulses remain the most powerful, evidence-based ways to reduce risk. Lycopene — the powerful red pigment in tomatoes, pink grapefruit and watermelon — is one of the most studied nutrients for prostate health. It neutralises free radicals that damage prostate cell DNA and can trigger cancerous change. Cooked tomato products such as passata, puree or bottled tomato juice are especially rich in lycopene and provide yearround protection. Vitamin E and selenium, mentioned in the CUP report, work in a similar way and are particularly supportive for prostate tissue. Pomegranate seeds are another excellent addition. Their antioxidants — including polyphenols, ellagic acid and anthocyanins — protect prostate cells from oxidative stress and may reduce urinary infections linked to an enlarged prostate. They may also modestly inhibit oestrogen production, a possible factor in BPH among older men. Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, kale and Brussels sprouts are star defenders. Once Upon a Time in the Southwest Ted Creedon Dingle Priest has Narrow Escape -Kerry News

On Friday evening, as the Rev. T. Kirby, was returning to Dingle in his horse and trap, after visiting a sick parishioner, the horse, a spirited animal, suddenly began to gallop furiously up the road from Ballinvownig Cross. Father kirby made every effort to control the animal but to no avail. The horse continued its mad gallop along by Crusheen and down the steep hill to John Street. Some people who were walking on the street were in serious danger. When the runaway galloped up Main Street, crowds of people were gathered at their doorways, and several attempts by bystanders to stop the horse failed. Then local publican Patrick Fitzgerald made a gallant dash forward, seized the rein, and brought the mad beast to a standstill. It was then noticed, by the gathering crowd, that Father Kirby was completely exhausted following his struggle to stop the horse. The reverend gentlemen received warm-hearted congratulations from the towns people, for he is indeed very much liked by them. He is a native of Listowel and was stationed in Tralee previously where he was very much respected and a favourite with the people there.
Sad Drowning in Dingle Harbour. -Kerry News

While the above story could have had a tragic ending, a tragic discovery was made the following morning. At low tide in Dingle harbour, the body of Louis Broglia, aged 35, was found drowned some distance from the pier. He was a native of Gloucester and a sailor on board the schooner Pacific of Dublin which was then anchored off the pier. It appears he ventured up the town the previous evening to purchase some necessaries and did not return until late that night. It is believed that in attempting to get on board his ship, and owing to the darkness of the night, the poor fellow lost his balance and fell into the harbour. The deceased was removed to the Workhouse, where he lies pending the Coroner’s Inquest which is to be held tomorrow.
Fatal Accident with Tragic Consequences -Cork Daily Herald 29 January 1898 A farmer named Cronin, residing at Laharn, near Castlemaine, died last evening from the effects of injuries received last Tuesday, when he was thrown from a horse and car on his way home.
Some believe it was an accidental discharge while others are inclined to believe that the case was one of attempted suicide. After the incident he was heard to say he was “only winged”. Update; The farmer Neligan, who got his arm blown off by a gunshot wound, died last evening. He leaves a wife and family. (His arm was not blown off by a gunshot wound - it was amputated.)
The Colleen Bawn in Dingle Courthouse -Kerry Reporter

On Monday night the members of the Dingle Amateur Dramatic Club made their appearance in the Courthouse. Long before the curtain went up the house, which was profusely decorated, was filled with an enthusiastic audience. However, demand for seating was so great that some people were unable to gain admission. The balconies were literally packed with ladies. The performance of The Colleen Bawn was played in a manner which excited the admiration and wonder of the audience. The water cave scene, which was designed by William Brosnan, was superb. In The Shaughraun, which was played on Tuesday night, the actors were quite at home. Each member played their part in a manner of which the majority of men are incapable. (Does this mean that the female roles were played by men?)
Dingle Police Sergeant Stoned -Constabulary Gazette 24 February 1900 Sergeant Thomas English was on duty at Camp Fair, on January 26, 1898, where he removed a ballad singer who was causing a disturbance. The singer wasn’t long away when he returned and was immediately placed under arrest. While Sergeant English was following the escort he received a blow of a stone on his head which severely injured him. He was attended to by Dr. Chute, who considered the wound to be of a slight nature. Some hours later the sergeant became ill, and was attended to by Dr. Hayes, in the County Infirmary. There was no improvement in his condition, so he attended Dr. Gordon, in the Constabulary Hospital in Dublin, who considered the wound to be very serious. The Medical Board pronounced him to be permanently disabled and unfit for service. Up until then the sergeant had delayed making a claim for compensation because he wanted to remain in the Force where his prospects of promotion were promising. Taking into account his age (46), loss of pension, employment and loss of good health, he was awarded £700 to be levied off the entire county of Kerry. (Close to €120,000 in today’s values and probably with much greater purchasing power then.)
The tragedy of his death has resulted in further tragedy because he was a widower and has left nine young children to mourn his loss. Dr. Hayes and a jury held an inquest on his remains today, where a verdict of accidental death was returned. An expression of deep sympathy was added as a rider.
Mysterious Shooting in Castleisland -Kerry Evening Post 22 May 1897 A mysterious affair occurred in Castleisland on Thursday evening, which resulted in a serious injury to a respectable farmer named John Neligan. The injured man entered Miss Burke’s public-house, at around six o’clock, with a gun under his arm. A few minutes later the patrons were shocked when a gunshot was heard, and Neligan collapsed on the floor. Several people rushed to the fallen man and found him in an unconscious state, suffering from a deep gunshot wound to the arm. Three doctors were promptly in attendance, Drs. Rice, Moore and O’Sullivan, and successfully amputated the limb. (In the pub?) The injured man, though in a precarious condition, is doing as well as could be expected. Nobody appears to have any idea as to how exactly the wound was inflicted. 10 Corca Dhuibhne Beo

Miso Braised Beef Ramen Mark Murphy - Dingle Cookery School
The meat should be tender and falling apart. Remove it from the oven and use a fork to shred it into the rich cooking liquid. Cook the noodles in boiling water for two to three minutes (or as directed on the packet), then drain and divide them between four bowls. Spoon the beef and broth over the noodles and finish with soft-boiled eggs, sliced spring onions, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds before serving. Bain Taitneamh As!

There’s something deeply comforting about a steaming bowl of ramen on a cold evening. It is rich, savoury and full of warmth. This miso braised beef ramen is exactly the kind of food that makes you slow down and enjoy every spoonful. The slow-cooked beef melts apart in a broth that’s layered with the umami depth of miso, the gentle heat of chilli, and the aromatic warmth of ginger and garlic. It’s hearty, soothing and nourishing, ideal for this time of year when you want food that nourishes you and still with so much flavour. When choosing your beef, call in to your local butcher; they’ll happily guide you towards the perfect cut for slow cooking, something like chuck, short rib or brisket. Miso paste, once found only in Asian shops, is now widely available in most supermarkets or health food shops and is well worth keeping in your kitchen. It adds a lovely roundness and depth to the broth, balancing beautifully with the soy, ginger and stock. Serve this ramen with noodles, soft eggs, spring onions and a sprinkle of sesame.

Serves 4
Ingredients 800g beef (ask for the chuck and in one large piece) 2 large onions, sliced thinly 350ml white wine 600ml beef stock 2 tbsp. miso paste 1 tsp. chili flakes 30ml light soy sauce 1 tbsp. chopped fresh ginger 300g egg noodles oil salt and pepper for the garnish 4 soft boiled eggs, peeled handful of spring onions, chopped sesame seeds
Method Preheat the oven to 160°C. Season the meat generously with salt and pepper. Set a casserole pot over a medium heat, add a little oil, then add the onions and garlic. Cook gently for about five minutes until softened. Pour in roughly a third of the wine and let it reduce slightly for another five to ten minutes. Add the remaining wine, along with the stock, miso, chilli flakes, soy sauce, and ginger, stirring everything together well. Put the meat into the pot, cover with a lid, and place in the oven for about two hours, checking halfway through to ensure there is enough liquid. Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society will host several events over the coming weeks, including the publication of their Kerry Journal and the Kerry Magazine for 2025. On Thursday evening, 6 November, there will be a presentation on Altóir na Gréine, the 4,000 year-old megalithic tomb in west Kerry, by Dr Billy Mag Fhloinn, archaeologist and folklorist. The lecture, which is free to members of the public, will take place in the Sacred Heart University Campus (in the old Monastery), John Street, Dingle, at 7:00 p.m. All welcome. On Tuesday, 25 November, in Tralee Library at 7:00 p.m., the Society presents a talk on The Great Famine and the national school system in Ireland, 1845 – 1852/An Gorta Mór agus córas na scoileanna náisiúnta in Éirinn, 1845 – 1852 by An Dr Pádraig Ó Donnabháin. The Journal of the Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society as well as the Kerry Magazine for 2025 will be launched on Thursday, 20 November at 7pm at Tralee Library by the Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Michael Foley.

Michael Kennedy In the opening quarter final round of the Moran’s of Dingle West Kerry Championship Castlegregory defeated Lispole on a score line of 2-16 to 3-11 in a fascinating game at Lispole last Sunday.
For their part Morans indicated that they were quite happy to continue their sponsorship and see it as a means of supporting the community they serve in an area where football plays a major role in the life of the people.
Playing with the wind Castle got off to a great start and were 8 points ahead after 13 minutes scoring a goal and 6 points to Lispole’s solitary point. By half time Castle were 9 points clear and Lispole were really struggling to get a grip on the game.During this period Cian O'Grady was relentless for Castle picking off point after point with relative ease. By the fifthieth minute Lispole had reduced the deficit to 6 points but 5 minutes later Castle scored their second goal which left Lispole trailing by 10 points with 5 minutes of normal time left. True to form Lispole never gave up and scored 3 goals in time remaining and were only 2 points adrift at the final whistle. Castle were relieved to hold out and Lispole could only wonder at what might have been had they got their act together sooner. Lispole might be struggling for numbers but you take them for granted at your peril. Castle play Annascaul in semi final next Saturday at 2.30 in Annascaul and An Ghaeltacht play Dingle in second semi final on Sunday at 2pm in Dingle. Our Greatest Day Vinny Flannery Growing up in the Colony in the fifties and sixties if I kicked a ball across the Colony it would hit the home of Mossie Moore, staunch goalkeeper for Dingle in their most dominant period from 1938 to 1948. The ball would roll down the Colony passing the home of one Mikey Callaghan a teammate of Mossie and father of Noel and Jerry. The ball would stop on the level ground right outside the home of Paddy Bawn Brosnan and Tim Brosnan or “Timineen Deas” as he was better known. At the bottom of the Colony if you turned towards the pier it would land outside the home of Sean Brosnan, a highly rated midfielder for Dingle and Kerry having success at both levels, he was often to be seen in the fields behind his home practicing his football skills. All the players mentioned were from fishing stock, as well as the Sheehy brothers, Tom and Paudie from Cooleen. Bill Dillon never fished but he was born by the seashore and spent most of his free time “down the quay”. Himself and my father were lifelong friends. Growing up in that environment you were surrounded by the legend of the great Dingle team of the forties. Many football fans from all over Kerry and beyond regarded that Dingle group of players as the best team to win the county championship. I am sure that the arguments still go on as to whether the Dingle six titles winners or John Mitchels six in a row from the early sixties was the best club team of that era. Sadly, after Dingle had again reached the final in 1951, losing to Dick Fitzgeralds (a combination of all the Killarney clubs) it was to be Dingle’s last hurrah and the end of a fabulous decade for that great group of players. After the feast comes the famine and so it came to pass for our club to have to wait a lifetime reach that peak again. There is a story waiting to be written as to the club’s highs and lows over those seventy-one years, about the people behind the club, about the players who stuck with it when things were bad and in those times when money was scarce. Dingle, like rural clubs everywhere, suffered the impact of emigration. There is a saying that you don’t know your true friends until you are in trouble and so it proved with my club Dingle GAA. That story remains to be told. It would be wrong to think that no Dingle player won a County Championship medal during that time. It’s important to acknowledge the Dingle
players who won county championships with West Kerry, this is not a definitive list so forgive me if I have left anyone out. Paudie O’Sé took over the West Kerry team in 1984, and through sheer determination, with Tommy Doyle as his wingman shook the Board to back him and got what he needed. Paul Scanlon from Dingle and Denis Higgins (RIP) contributed to the management in no small way. West Kerry won the county championship in 1984, 1985 and 1990. The Dingle players who won medals in those three years were Liam and Vincent (Shin) O’Connor, carrying on a family tradition. Bernard Dan O’Sullivan, Jamsie Sullivan, Tommy Hand (RIP), Murt Moriarty, Sean Geaney, Thomas O’Connor (TC), Fintan Ashe, Pat Galvin. Several Dingle players have also won county championship titles with their colleges, UCC in particular. Over the past decade Dingle have been tipped to go all the way a number of times. We came up short for a number of reasons sometimes due to players going away for the summer or getting injured at the wrong time (as if there is a good time) but nobody can say we did not have a go. Regardless of who was involved they all gave it their all to get over the line. It was clear we had good players coming through and crucially they bonded as a group. It was clear to see we were improving year by year, getting better individually and collectively as a team, as demonstrated by the number of players called up for county teams at all levels. But despite these good omens we failed to accomplish the ultimate goal, “we had too many out injured”, “that ref blackguarded us” and so it went. Thankfully those players stuck with it year after year believing “this is our year”. Once again, Mark O’Connor, instead of being on holidays like his AFL teammates, gave an exhibition of fielding and midfield play, ably assisted by Billy O’Connor. He gave the whole team and supporters a mighty lift. Playing Austin Stacks in their own backyard in a Senior County Final is a fair mountain to climb but thank God that is what this group of players did. It was no day for fancy moves, rather hard graft, turnovers and winning breaking ball. This group getting over the line meant so much to all of us, at home and around the world. Finally, our turn to get our hands on the Bishop Moynihan Cup. I can imagine the total relief for Padraic Corcoran, Tommy Griffin, Johnny B Brosnan and Jim Garvey. The sheer joy of all the backroom crew led by Chairman Sean Sullivan, Liam O’Connor, Tom Barrett and everybody who helped in any way. It was Our Greatest Day, without a doubt. Hopefully there’s more to come!

Handel's Messiah in the Díseart An Díseart is very excited to bring Handel's seasonal masterpiece with two of Ireland's leading ensembles, Chamber Choir Ireland and the Irish Chamber Orchestra to Dingle on Thursday the 11th December. The performance will be held in St.Mary's parish church. One of the best-known works of classical music, Handel's Messiah has become a festive tradition for millions of people the world over. An oratorio in the English language, it tells the story of Jesus Christ, birth, life, death, resurrection, and final triumph over sin and death. This enduring treasure of choral music is filled with high drama, virtuoso arias, and thrilling choruses, taking us from the opening nativity to the famous Hallelujah chorus and beyond. For the Dingle performance, the production is led by the esteemed conductor of the Baroque, harpsichordist Christian Curnyn, with step-out solos from the singers of Chamber Choir Ireland. The concert is a fundraiser event to help the restoration of Díseart's chapel, home to Dingle's wonderful Harry Clarke stained glass windows. Tickets priced at €30 are available locally in Walsh Chemist and Dingle Book Shop and online through Irish Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Choir Ireland sites. Scan the QR code for online booking. Quiet Lane Feedback Dingle Hub and Corca Dhuibhne Community Forum would like to sincerely thank everyone who came out to support our community walk/cycle on the Ventry High Road (L8039) on Sunday, September 21. We started a discussion around Quiet Roads that day and 150 of you turned up to walk or cycle the route from Lady’s Cross to Ceann Trá. The purpose of the event was to start a conversation about the concept of Quiet Lanes or Quiet Roads - shared spaces with lower speed limits and extra signage that remind motorists they share the road with cyclists, pedestrians and livestock! We asked you for your thoughts and ideas and any concerns you have around Quiet Roads and 88 of you responded and we thank you especially for taking the time to jot down your views. One walker commented: “I’ve always thought it should be for the usage of residents only, walkers, cyclists, and Local Link bus if necessary.” “Tá an iomarca tráchta air, carranna ag tetheadh ós na rothaithe atá ar an bpríomh bhóthar,” a dúirt duine amháin. One local said: “I walk on the road daily and live on the road. I think with less traffic it would be much safer for children who also walk, cycle and go to school from here. The Hub is leading the National Pathfinder Project on the Dingle Peninsula and looking for alternative, safer and more sustainable ways for people to move around without having to rely on the private car. Deirdre said: “It was fantastic that so many people took the time to join us and share their thoughts about Bóthar Árd Ceann Trá. “This road plays a vital role for everyone living and working locally —it’s essential for getting to school, work, the shop, and the beach, and it’s a vital link for public transport, farming, and recreation.” Deirdre said the feedback received shows a strong desire to make this road safer and more enjoyable for everyone, whether you're walking, cycling, driving or moving livestock. “People told us how much they value natural beauty here and want to enjoy it with their families, but there are real concerns about speeding, traffic volumes and safety - especially for children and older residents,” she said. Suggestions received from the public ranged from better signage and lower speed limits to improved infrastructure and more driver awareness. “Our next step is to work together to identify a range of practical measures based on this initial feedback,” Deirdre added. We’ll be coming back to regular road users and the wider community to discuss these options in detail so everyone has a say in shaping what happens next. “This is a community effort and everyone’s voice will be needed to guide the way forward,” she said.

The talk will have something for everyone from complete beginners to experienced song writers. Brendan will discuss the theories and the requirements concerning song writing. An example will then be worked through giving a method to get started from nothing or to introduce randomness in thought to more experienced songwriters. Brendan will work through an interactive working example at the end. It's a one off session that will take 3 to 4 hours of your time starting at 5 pm sharp. Castlegregory Notes The Castlegregory Tidy Towns group is pleased to announce that they have won the following awards at the ceremony in Dublin on Friday 24th last. These are: 1- National award in the small village category for Climate Action 2- Regional award for the pollinator plan 3- Endeavour award for Kerry 4- Leave no trace award Many thanks to all who helped to achieve these awards. The group also held the unveiling of the Bat Mosaic by Councillor Tommy Griffin, the evening was well supported with many in attendance. They worked in an ammunition factory in Birmingham and later Jule moved to London. It was in London while working in a Hotel that Jule met the love of her life, Bill Butterworth, a Tasmanian man on a world tour. Jule came home to Camp and told her family she was taking a 4 week voyage to Perth to marry Bill Burrerworth and go to live on his sheep farm in Perth.
Camp CPR & Defibrillator Group are offering a free Refresher Training Course on Monday 17th November at the Old School Camp.
Jule arrived in Perth in 1959 where she was to live happily ever after with Bill raising their family in Perth.

Jule never forgot her family in Camp and she came back to visit many times over the years. And her sister Mary and family in Camp went to Perth to visit Jule and family too over the years. Jule was delighted when her niece Michelle came to live in Perth in recent years and just a few days before her death, Michelle took her little son MJ to spend some time with Jule, who was in great form that day and only a few days later Jule passed away peacefully. May her gentle soul rest in Peace.

OBITUARY The death has occurred of Julia, Jule Butterworth (nee Dunne), Perth, Western Australia and formerly of Knockglossmore, Camp. Jule passed away peacefully on October 24th aged 96 years. Beloved wife of the late Bill and loving mother of Charlie, Pet and Mary. Sadly missed by her sister Mary Fitzgerald, The Junction, Camp, daughters in law, son in law, grandchildren as well as her family and friends in Australia, here in Ireland and in the UK, Spain and New Zealand. Predeceased by her brothers Patrick, Joe and Micheal. Jule will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband Bill in Perth on 9th. November. A mass for Jule will be celebrated in Camp at a future date. Jule left Camp at 17 years of age and went to Birmingham with her cousins Jule and Brigid Wyles.

A couple of weeks ago Hope Guatemala got an emergency call from the nutrition centre CERNE, where we are feeding children two meals a day. The old pick up truck had broken down and there was no money to replace it. Because of this Dr. Edwin couldn't visit communities, often for life savingtreatment. Hope Guatemala stepped in and bought a second hand pick up thanks to your ongoing support.

Memorial Walk in Muiríoch Sunday 16 November 2025 Descendants of Seán Ó Criomhthain and anyone who wants to will walk the short route from Halla na Muirí to Ballydavid village on Sunday, 16th November, meeting at 3.30pm. The third Sunday of November each year is World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims #WDoR2025 Seán walked this route most days — to go fishing from Ballydavid or to meet his friends in Begley’s pub. Aged 77 in 1975, Seán was a widower living alone in Muiríoch. Over thirty years earlier he had moved his young family there from the Great Blasket. Like his father Tomás, not only was he a fisherman but also a published author, writing about island life and the changes of moving to the mainland. By that Christmas, Seán was no longer with us — having been struck by a vehicle while walking to Ballydavid earlier that month. In the fifty years since, many families have faced similar sudden loss. Help remember all who have died on our roads by walking with us, if you are able — a kind act of remembrance. Circa 18 members of Dingle/Corca Dhuibhne chapter met up recently and had a great social evening. Several of those were newcomers (returnees or new to the area) who took a chance on joining-in with something they hadn't done before. Because we aim to keep it informal and friendly, they were rewarded with getting to know regular attendees and a relaxed jovial occasion resulted. Introductions made at events like these are a great springboard for further connection, which in turn is undoubtedly helping build a stronger, better connected West Kerry community. We also love that Grow Remote events are supporting our local businesses and organisations. Grow Remote is a social enterprise whose mission is to make good quality jobs available to everyone, wherever they live. Remote and hybrid working is having a significant and positive impact on our communities, especially in Corca Dhuibhne, where for so long work opportunities were limited.
