THE JOURNAL
FEBRUARY, MARCH & APRIL 2026

Dear Members,
As we begin a new year at Wenty Leagues, I would like to start by thanking you, our valued members, for your ongoing support and involvement in 2025. It was especially heartening to see so many of you engage with our Heart of Wenty initiatives during the festive season, from toy drives to fundraising efforts, helping us make a tangible difference in the community.
It was also a joy to see the club buzzing throughout Christmas and New Year
celebrations, a reminder of the role Wenty plays in bringing people together. Whether you were here for a festive meal, a family activity or simply to relax with friends, your presence helped create a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the season.
Looking to this year, we are proud to announce the official completion of our Entertainment Hub redevelopment. The final stage, which includes the opening of Arbor, our beautiful new café space, is now complete. Arbor represents more than just a new venue, it embodies our ongoing vision of creating inclusive, modern and comfortable spaces for members to enjoy. This multistage transformation has elevated Wenty Leagues position as a premier destination for entertainment, dining and hospitality, and we are thrilled to now see the entire vision come to life.
With a vibrant calendar of events, new spaces to enjoy, and a continued commitment to delivering meaningful member experiences, there’s so much to look forward to at Wenty. Whether you’re passionate about sport, food, community, or simply spending time with

PRESIDENT

friends, we invite you to be part of everything that makes our club so special.
Finally, I’d like to invite all members to attend our Annual General Meeting on Sunday, 24 May 2026 at 10:00am. This is a valuable opportunity to reflect on our achievements, review the year ahead, and stay informed about the club’s direction. More details can be found in the AGM notice within this journal.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I extend my sincere thanks to the entire Wenty team for their dedication. I also thank our Board members and their families for the time and commitment they give to ensuring our club thrives.
Here’s to a wonderful year ahead and we look forward to welcoming you through our doors throughout 2026.
Warm regards,

Ian McCann CLUB PRESIDENT

Dear Members,
As we dive into the first quarter of 2026, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to you all, and share what’s coming up at Wenty over the next few months.
We closed out last year with fantastic momentum, and we’re incredibly grateful for your support of our Heart of Wenty charity efforts during the Christmas period. From donations to participation in our raffles and initiatives, your generosity helped brighten
the season for families doing it tough. It was equally heartening to see so many members celebrating across the club, thank you for making Wenty part of your festive traditions.
Now, we turn our attention to a very exciting new chapter as our new café, Arbor, is officially open! This stunning new café space marks the final stage of our Entertainment Hub redevelopment, and we couldn’t be prouder. Arbor brings warmth, style and connection to the heart of the club, and completes a transformation that has truly elevated our member experience. We encourage you to drop in and explore the refreshed spaces.
Sport is kicking off in a big way over the coming months, starting with our Super Bowl Watch Party on Monday 9 February, complete with jersey giveaways, VIP seating, and American-inspired food and drinks. We’re also hosting an official NRL Vegas Watch Party on Sunday 1 March, as the 2026 footy season gets underway, live and loud at Wenty!
February also brings some love to the calendar with both Valentine’s Day celebrations and a Galentine’s Day Bubbles & Brushstrokes event for friends to enjoy something fun and a little different. Then in March, we welcome the Seniors Festival and Wellness Fair, filled with entertainment, giveaways and community connection.
In April, we’ll celebrate Easter with our muchloved raffles and family-friendly events, followed by an exciting school holiday program to keep the kids entertained.
With so much happening, there’s never been a better time to visit the club, reconnect with friends, and enjoy all that Wenty has to offer.
On behalf of our entire team, thank you for starting 2026 with us. We look forward to seeing you at the club soon.

In October of last year, some of the Wenty Team joined thousands of walkers for the Cancer Council’s annual 7 Bridges Walk, an event dedicated to raising funds for cancer research and support services. Starting and finishing in Pyrmont Village, our team set out with excitement and determination, ready to take on one of Sydney’s most meaningful community challenges.
The route meandered through vibrant neighbourhoods including Rozelle, Gladesville, Hunters Hill, Lane Cove, Wollstonecraft, and Milsons Point, crossing seven of the city’s most iconic bridges. Despite tough conditions along the way, team spirit never wavered. We encouraged one another, shared laughs, and kept moving forward.

Overall, the team raised $7,500, contributing to the event’s remarkable collective total of more than $2 million for the Cancer Council. These funds directly support life-saving research, prevention programs, and crucial services that help Australians navigate the challenges of a cancer diagnosis.
A big thank you to everyone who donated and supported this meaningful cause.
Thanks to the kindness of staff, members, and guests, 61.7 kilograms of snacks were donated in support of Snacktember. These snacks were delivered to the Hilltop Road Public School Community Hub, where they were shared with families across the Cumberland area.
Snacktember shows how small, bite-sized donations can make a big difference. By ensuring every child has access to a snack during the day, the initiative supports kids’ health, learning, and overall well-being.

Our community came together for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month through support of our Pink Ribbon Bake Stall in aid of the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).
A raffle and a lively lolly-guessing competition added extra fun to the event, helping lift our fundraising total to more than $600. We were also honoured to welcome Jeralyn from BreastScreen NSW, who shared important insights on early detection and the life-saving value of regular screenings.
Adding to the spirit of the occasion, our Gentle Exercise class wore pink in a bright display of unity, reinforcing the message of community care and compassion. We’re grateful for everyone who contributed and look forward to making next year’s Pink Ribbon Bake Stall even bigger and more impactful.
Good360 Australia has opened its first-ever Community Hub at the Smithfield head office, an exciting milestone in its mission to support Australians doing it tough. Proudly backed by Wenty Leagues through the ClubGRANTS scheme, the new Hub creates a welcoming space where social workers can connect people with essential items for education, hygiene, home life, and play. These aren’t just products, they’re tools that help restore dignity, build stability, and spark hope for families facing hardship.
More than a distribution point, the Hub removes barriers that often prevent people from seeking help. By offering a safe, respectful and judgment-free environment, it ensures that anyone can access life’s basics with compassion and privacy.

We’re proud to once again support Supertee, a local charity that turns hospital stays into moments of courage and imagination for children facing serious illness. Their superhero-style medical garments help young patients feel brave during some of their toughest days. Recently, our team joined the Supertee crew to help prepare and pack their newest Astronaut and Ballerina designs, each one crafted to bring comfort and joy to kids in hospital.
These garments are more than clothing, they’re symbols of hope that help children see themselves as strong and fearless. Being part of the packing effort was incredibly rewarding, reminding us how much a simple act of kindness can mean to families going through hardship. Wenty Leagues is honoured to support SuperTee on their mission to help spread a little superhero magic where it’s needed most.

We are proud to mark the official completion of our Entertainment Hub transformation, an exciting milestone that brings together years of planning and vision. At the heart of this final stage is the opening of Arbor, the club’s brandnew café space designed to welcome members with comfort, connection, and a fresh new atmosphere.
Located near the centre of the club, Arbor serves as a vibrant meeting place. Offering a new look, it remains true to Wenty, continuing to serve all the café favourites our members know and love, in a relaxed and beautifully updated environment.
This final stage of the redevelopment is the culmination of a larger project that has already
seen major upgrades rolled out across the club. From the expansion of the lounge and upgrades to the stage and dancefloor, to improved access to the Starlight Room, every aspect of the Entertainment Hub has been carefully considered with member experience in mind.
“The Entertainment Hub project has always been about creating spaces where people feel welcome and looked after,” said CEO Glenn Kovacs. “Arbor is the finishing touch. It’s not just a new café, but a space that ties the club together and gives our members more ways to enjoy their time with us.”
Club President Ian McCann agrees. “It’s about delivering more value to our members. We’ve modernised the space while keeping the spirit of Wenty alive. Arbor is a beautiful example of how we can evolve without losing the warmth and familiarity our members love.”
With Arbor now open and the final piece of the Entertainment Hub in place, the club invites members and guests to come and experience all that’s new, and all that still feels like home.

We’ve modernised the space while keeping the spirit of Wenty alive. Arbor is a beautiful example of how we can evolve without losing the warmth & familiarity our members love.

ANZAC Day is a day of remembrance that honours the memory of Australian & New Zealand Army Corp soldiers who fought and perished during the First World War. In addition, it serves as a day of reflection for all soldiers who have lost their lives fighting for their countries.
The day has been recognised with a National public holiday since 1927, and by the mid-1930’s the rituals we know today were well and truly established, including dawn services, marches, and two-up.
The phrase heard each and every year, ‘Lest We Forget’ is recited after the Ode of Remembrance, which is derived from the poem “For the Fallen”, written by Laurance Binyon. The poem reads - “They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.”

Unstoppable Momentum: A Golden Era for Wenty Leagues
If the start of 2026 has proven anything, it is that Wenty is not just a place to play bowls — it is a destination for mateship and social bonding along with elite performance as the icing on top.
State Pairs Glory: The Master and the Protégé
We begin with a headline victory that has sent shockwaves through the district. A massive congratulations to our Bowls Coordinator, Cameron Curtis, and his 22-year-old protégé, Matty Swan, who recently claimed the Metro North-West State Pairs Championship.
This was a statement win. The duo faced off against the formidable pair from Carlingford in the semifinal — a team that had recently secured both the NSW and Australian Pairs titles. To knock out the reigning National Champions is an extraordinary feat.

Cameron and Matty have now punched their ticket to the State Finals in Dubbo (30 June – 3 July). We are calling on the “Wenty Army” to turn this into a memorable road trip! If you’d like to join the convoy to support the boys, please drop an Expression of Interest to Cam; it will be a fantastic few days for a group of travelling bowlers from Wenty.
The Coming Storm: 2026 Pennants Season
The rivalry heats up immediately as we look toward the Pennants season. The State Open Pennants kick off on Saturday 14 February, followed by the TAB Platinum Pennant on Friday 27 February.
While our Wenty Platinum boys travel to Soldiers Point for the first two rounds, all eyes are on Sunday 1 March at 10:00 AM. We return to home soil for a massive ‘showdown’ against the Carlingford Koalas. Given Cam and Matty’s recent victory over their stars and Carlo in the quarterfinal too, this match promises to be electric. To prepare, trials are scheduled for all grades on 24 January, 31 January and 7 February.
The $5,000 Wenty Battlers Tournament is set for Easter Monday, 6 April. There are currently only eight spots left, and we are now publicising the event to bowlers outside the club. A vital reminder for Wenty sides: your registration is only confirmed once your entry fee is paid in full. Please visit the Bowls Office immediately to lock in your place.
Wenty’s name is being etched onto trophies across the state:
• A Swan Family Dynasty: Congratulations once again to the Swan family—father Andrew, sons Matty and Nicholas, and Uncle Peter. This powerhouse quartet claimed Illawarra’s South Pacific Fours title and the $4,000 prize money for the third time in four years. A truly special, generational effort!
• Penrith 5-A-Side: Wenty entered this prestigious competition against the “sharks” of NSW bowls and walked away champions, defeating the NSW Greenkeepers side to claim the $4,000 first prize.
• Club Championships: Matty Swan’s golden run included a Major Singles victory over club legend Mohan Lal. Congratulations also to Rohan Dennis and Rick Lucey (Pairs Champions) and Margaret Mitchell (Ladies Major Singles Champion).
Hosting & Development
Off the green, we successfully hosted the Bowls NSW Members Conference, featuring keynote speaker Karen Murphy AM. The feedback on our facilities and food from the state’s top delegates was outstanding. Finally, the future is taking physical shape. The concrete slab for the new Undercover Green has been poured! To celebrate this milestone, Wenty will host the qualifying rounds of the Australian Indoor Singles, serving as the perfect opening for our rectified carpet green.
The greens are running true, the calendar is packed, and Wenty is leading the way.
See you on the greens!
PS: A reminder our AGM is coming up on Sunday 22 February. Nominations for the Bowls Committee and Executive positions are available from the Bowls Office.
Cameron Curtis, Bowls Co-ordinator
It’s been another exciting period around the club with some outstanding performances across the grades, the start of our Under 9 competition, Woolworths Blast continuing to grow, and several teams right in the mix as finals approach.
There have been plenty of great individual efforts worth celebrating in the first half of the season. They being:
Top 5 Best Figures: TEAM PLAYER

U17/1 Tanisha Shanmuganathan 6/6
U10 White Rajveer Naik 6/15

U17/1 Benjamin Mani 207*
U17/1 Maher Shaun Nosina 184
U17/1 Ronav Aparajit 151
U15/1 Black Ethan Natkunamanickam 145
We’re also excited to see the Under 9 competition officially underway. For many of our youngest players, this is their first taste of regular match cricket, and the enthusiasm has been fantastic. The smiles, effort and improvement already on display show how much the kids are enjoying being out there. A big thank you goes to the coaches, managers and parents who help make match days such a positive experience.
Our Woolworths Blast program continues to be a huge success, with strong numbers and great energy each week. Blast remains a vital part of the club, giving kids a fun and relaxed introduction to cricket while helping them build basic skills and confidence. It’s always great to see so many future cricketers running around, having fun and loving the game.
Looking ahead, a number of our teams are well placed and pushing hard as we head towards the finals. We wish all teams the best as they look to finish the season strongly and carry that momentum into finals.
Cricket Club Committee
Welcome to 2026!
On behalf of the Darts Club, we wish everyone all the best for the year ahead.
We’ve kicked off the year with great numbers at our Friday night socials, with 34 and 28 players attending over the first two weeks. We’d love to see even more new faces—so if you’ve ever thought about giving darts a go, come down for a fun and exciting night. Names in by 7:45pm every Friday night.

Congratulations to our Wednesday night mixed team, who won Division 1 — a fantastic achievement!
Well done to: Karl Korzuch, Steve Gumbleton, Tony Corbet, Michael Boston, Theresa Foster, Dianne Lock, Denise Weeks, and Shandell Wright.
Commiserations to our Monday night Division 1 men’s team, who narrowly lost their final after winning the last eight on arrow. Also unlucky to our Monday night Division 2 men’s team, who lost their final. After winning Division 3 last competition, this was still a great achievement.

The President vs Captain Day was played at Penrith with the Presidents team emerging victorious.
At Studley Park on the 7 December, we hosted our yearly Ham and Chook Day and I hope everyone used their gifts wisely over the holiday period. Our final round of the COW was played at Penrith on the 19 October between Kelekolio Fangupo and Dominic Scali. The winner was Kelekolio Fangupo. Congratulations to Soup for the win and Dominic for getting to the final.
Rounding out our calendar events was our Patrons Day which was won by Josh Adams (who has just started playing with us). Runners-up were Brian Adams and Jarod Simonetta. We now have two Patrons, Laurie Capovilla and Bernie Ambrose. Laurie could not make the round, but Bernie supplied some prizes on the day and major prizes will be awarded at our Presentation Night dinner.
Our 2025 Clubman event, which is an accumulation of points gained
throughout the year based on attendance and wins, was won by Jarod Simonetta. Congratulations Jarod on a great year.
Our first event of 2026 is the guzzler of guzzlers. This is open to anyone that has won a Trophy Day during the previous year and top of the pile was Brian Adams. Congratulations Brian.
We had our jackpot go off twice. This was achieved by Glen Grant at Wentworth Falls on the 12th hole getting to 89cm. The second was by Andrew Soames at Windsor on the 7th hole finishing only 68cm. Congratulations Andrew.
Finally, we have had more new members join us which is always great news. Jason Bolan who has obtained his handicap., Mick Pilarowski, Ross Hickman, Jonathan Mawad and Sam Mawad. Sam is and old member who has returned after a long break. Welcome to everyone.
That concludes our first report for 2026. Remember that we are always looking for new members, so if you are interested or know someone who may be keen, please check the sub club website and the club bulletin boards for contact details.
Kind Regards.
Glen Grant, President
Goshin Ju-Jitsu teaches a system of unarmed defensive techniques, using an attacker’s momentum against them, which is traditionally based and adapted for modern-day situations. It is a modern form of the ancient Ju-Jitsu system, where knowledge, not strength, is required to defeat your attackers.
Ju-Jitsu is a Japanese martial art that can be enjoyed by women, men and children from 8 years of age.
Goshin Ju-Jitsu has enjoyed a break over the summer school holidays with our first training night on Wednesday 28 January 2026. Our year commenced on a high with a solid re-enrolment rate and a huge influx of new students over both junior and senior mats. We trust everyone has had a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.
Our very successful 2025 Presentation Day, held in the Wally Webster Hall of Wenty Leagues Club, was highlighted by the presentation of our two Major Awards, the Junior Black Belt and the Senior Black Belt Trophies. Our congratulations to these two very deserving students.

Club Achievements
Wenty Leagues Netball Club proudly congratulates Akur on her outstanding achievement of being selected in the NSW Under 17s team at just 15 years of age. This is an exceptional accomplishment and a testament to Akur’s talent, dedication, and hard work. We are incredibly proud to see one of our own represent at such a high level. With metro announcements to come, we are excited to see our players continue to thrive at representative levels in 2026.

The club’s Annual General Meeting will be held in early February, where committee positions and assignments will be voted on. The AGM is an important opportunity for members to be involved in the leadership and future direction of the club. If you are interested in nominating for a position, please contact netball@wentyleagues.com.au.
Wenty Leagues Netball Club is excited to enter the 2026 season with strong participation, improved facilities, and a supportive club community. We look forward to another successful year both on and off the court and thank our players, families, volunteers, coaches, and the Wenty Leagues Club for their continued support.

We proudly celebrated our 2025 End of Year Presentation and Christmas Dinner on Monday 15 December 2025, at Wentworthville Leagues Club. Our Sub-Club Coordinator, Louise Frendo, was our special guest and had the honour of presenting trophies and awards to the winners. Lifetime badges were awarded to Fred Sabbagh, Club Secretary who served on the committee since 2015 and Colin Wood, Club Treasurer Who served on the Committee for over five years. Western District Spring Pennant Competition 2025
Wenty Leagues Squash Club entered a total of 16 teams in the Spring Pennant competition, each team being selected on a grading system based on previous performance. After 15 rounds and Semi Finals, the Grand Finals were played on 26 November 2025 at Northmead Squash Centre, the courts used for all Squash Club home matches. While Wenty teams won Division 1, Division 2 and Division 4, the Division 3 team was defeated by a very strong team from Premier Squash Club. Congratulations to the members of the three winning teams and to the runners-up in Division 3.

Western District Autumn Pennant Competition 2026
The Autumn Pennant competition will commence early in March 2026. The Club Captain Robert Cole, Club Vice Captain Wendy Fox and
Selector Trevor Ryan are working hard to select teams and then submit those teams for inclusion in the Western District competition. Robert, Wendy and Trevor are being assisted and supported in this complex yet very important task by the members of the Squash Club Executive. The hope is that the Squash Club will have sufficient players available to enter 16 teams as was achieved in the Spring Pennant Competition last year, or perhaps even a small increase on that number.
Masters Squash – tournaments for senior players
The NSW Masters Squash Association organises tournaments at metropolitan and regional squash centres each year. These Masters tournaments are very popular with the Masters-age members of the Wenty Squash Club, some of whom travelled to Perth to play in the Australian Masters Squash National tournament in September 2025. Outstanding results were achieved by Squash Club members Peter Bastow who was runner-up in the Open Men’s 55-59 event and to Tracey-Lee Hall who was runner-up in the Women’s Division 1 event. Congratulations also to those who achieved notable results: Lyndal Amer who finished 3rd in the Open Women’s 50-54 event and Susan Blackbourn who was awarded the Consolation Plate in the same event. Katie Totaro was awarded the Consolation Plate in the Women’s Division 5 event and Bernard Worsley was awarded the Consolation Plate in the Men’s Division 6 event.
Graeme Mitchell, President
We commenced our 2026 Swimming Season on Sunday 11 January 2026 subsequent to the Christmas break.
We swim events from 25 metres to 200 metres catering for all strokes. You do not have to be an Olympic swimmer to be a member of the Swimming Club (however you need to be a member of Wentworthville Leagues Club) as you swim against your own time.
We are an adult swimming club and swim most Sunday mornings at the Wentworthville Memorial Pool, Dunmore Street, Wentworthville (adjacent to the Cumberland Highway). We will have members attending two (2) carnivals shortly. The first being on Sunday 18 January at Castle Hill and second on Sunday 22 February at Dee Why.
Should your New Year resolution include fitness feel free to come to Wentworthville Pool between 7.30am to 7.45am on a Sunday morning where you will come across our members who will be able to assist.
Robin Thomson, President
During 2025, our table tennis club experienced a fantastic season both on and off the table. Membership has grown to over 250 members, reflecting strong community engagement and interest in the sport. Notably, this growth has come from both junior players and older members, demonstrating that table tennis is thriving across all age groups. The surge in participation highlights the club’s welcoming environment and its ability to cater to players of all ages and skill levels.
Success was seen at the Summer Competition, where the club again delivered strong performances. Our A2 team secured the Championship, while the A Grade and B Grade teams finished as runner-up. Furthermore, both the C Grade and D Grade teams reached the semi-finals.
The club is particularly proud of its players who have progressed to representative honours. At the state level, the following players represented New South Wales: Richard Fu, Andrew Li, Amy Cai & Lachlan Bao. At the national level, two of our players advanced further: Richard Fu, who represented Australia Under 17 at the Thailand WTT 2025. Andrew Li, who represented Australia Under 15 at the ITTF Oceania Table Tennis Championships 2025.
These achievements are a testament to the dedication of the players, coaches, committee members and the supportive club environment. The 2025 season has truly been a fantastic year and the club is wellpositioned to continue building on this momentum through strong participation, competitive success and ongoing player development.

In 2026, our focus is all about growth, connection and progress. We’re refreshing our processes, strengthening transparency, and improving how we communicate with our members and families.
A big priority this year is continuing to grow our teams, with a strong focus on increasing female participation and pathways across all age groups. Our season gets underway with three weeks of trials in March, leading into Round 1 on 11 April, and we can’t wait to see our players back on the field, learning, competing and having fun.
Whether you’re a returning family or brand new to rugby league, we’d love to have you involved. Players and volunteers can register at playrugbyleague.com or reach out to our Club Secretary for more information.
