All Your Flights

All our tour prices include return international economy class flights from London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham or Belfast, and any domestic flights you may need whilst on tour. We can also organise departures from other regional airports, often for little or no extra cost.

We only work with reputable scheduled airlines and of course all your pre-paid taxes and luggage is included in the price. We believe that your flights are an essential part of your holiday experience, and so our carefully selected airlines offer the utmost comfort, allowing you to arrive relaxed, refreshed and raring to go.

Your Meals

On our Classic tours breakfast, lunch and dinner are included every day.

Whilst breakfasts tend to be a mixture of local eats and familiar dishes from home, when it comes to lunch and dinner, most of the time you’ll be enjoying regional cuisine, often eating where the locals do.

We also include a select number of ‘feature meals’, so you get to taste the signature dishes of the region, whilst the rest of the time you’ll eat a delicious range of your destination’s best food

Once you transfer to your beach resort, meals will generally be on a bed and breakfast basis to allow you the flexibility to dine when and how you please, unless otherwise stated.

You can be safe in the knowledge that your accommodation has been selected to best suit the locations you’ll visit.

Our Classic tours feature hand-picked four-star properties chosen for their comfort, modern amenities and convenient location for sightseeing. We occasionally include a stay in three-star plus hotels or lodges where we feel the character or location of the property will enhance your tour.

However if you’d rather enjoy a holiday where the whole group travels on to the beach together, then choose one of these tours. CLASSIC GO BEYOND

Our Classic tours take care of everything, allowing you to sit back and enjoy the experience to the full. Travelling in a group of no more than 28 guests, these tours are fully inclusive of all meals and a comprehensive touring programme including authentic cultural experiences.

Our Go Beyond tours take you a little further from the comforts of home, uncovering lesser-visited sights. Limited to just 18 passengers, these tours allow you to delve even deeper into local culture while offering more time for independent exploration.

Once the group touring part of your holiday is over it’s time to get some sand between your toes, relax in the sunshine and reflect on the incredible adventure you’ve just had.

Your National Escort will accompany you throughout your guided touring and safely to your onward transfer to your beach resort. On some of the holidays, the whole group may be travelling on to the beach, on others it could be as few as just you and your travelling companion. See the holiday descriptions on each page for more details.

Transfers to the resort are included and meals are generally on a bed and breakfast basis unless we tell

you otherwise. Your days are now yours to spend exactly how you wish; relaxing around the pool, taking a dip in those balmy waters or unwinding with an indulgent spa treatment.

PHYSICAL RATING

All our tours feature a physical rating to help you select the right holiday for you. Every tour requires the ability to walk around sights unaided, while tours with higher physical ratings may involve longer walks, cycling, or other physical activities. Tours that traverse rough terrain, visit remote areas, or go to high altitudes will also have higher physical ratings.

A reasonable level of fitness is required. Expect to be on your feet for most of the day walking around sights, often including steps and getting on and off coaches, trains, or boats. Occasional longer walks may be included.

A moderate level of fitness is required. You will be on your feet for most of the day, with longer walks that include ascents and descents on steps or uneven paths. Travelling conditions may be more challenging in some areas.

A good level of fitness is required. You need to be comfortable walking long distances and for extended durations. The tour may also include activities such as cycling and hiking and visit some remote areas with basic infrastructure.

A high level of fitness and a strong spirit of adventure are required. These tours are full of activity and often visit remote areas with basic infrastructure. Expect to be on your feet and active for much of the day, with some long travelling days.

DAY 4: SIGIRIYA

ROCK FORTRESS

Travel to the 5th-century UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rock Fortress, ‘Lion Rock’. Explore the gardens, admire the worldrenowned Heavenly Maidens frescoes and, if you are feeling fit, pass between a pair of colossal lion’s paws to climb to the top for panoramic views. Then, embark on an adventurous jeep safari in Minneriya National Park, looking out for large herds of elephants, sloth bears, leopards and more wonderful wildlife. (B,L,D)

DAY 5: TRAVEL

TO KANDY

Travel to Dambulla, where you will tour the Rock Temple which dates from the 1st century BC. Visit a spice garden in Matale before continuing through majestic hill country to the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka’s cultural hub.

Visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic then, this evening, enjoy a cultural show of folk dancing and music. (B,L,D)

DAY 6: TRAIN TO NUWARA ELIYA

Board a train bound for Nanu Oya, passing through rolling tea plantations backed by mist-covered mountains and cascading waterfalls. Continue to Nuwara Eliya where, this evening you’ll take a tuk tuk ride through the town. (B,L,D)

DAY 7: EXPLORE NUWARA ELIYA

Begin the day at a tea factory, learning about the process of picking, processing and packaging tea leaves. Then, enjoy a high tea experience at the Grand Hotel Nuwara Eliya with freshly brewed Ceylon teas and views over the hillsides.(B,L,D)

DAY 8: RETURN TO COLOMBO

Descend from the highlands back to Colombo. Take a tour of the city, visiting the Colombo Museum, Independence Square, Pettah’s vibrant markets and the scenic Galle Face Green promenade. Embark on a guided street food tour, visiting some of the city’s best local food spots, sampling a variety of authentic Sri Lankan snacks and delicacies. (B,L,D)

DAY 9: FLY TO THE MALDIVES

Bid farewell to your guide, transfer to the airport and fly to the capital city of the Maldives, Malé. On arrival you will be met and escorted to your boat transfer which will take you directly to the resort. The next few days will be at leisure with no escorted touring involved. (B,L,D)

DAYS 10-13: MALDIVES AT LEISURE

In the Maldives, you’ll be immersed in a paradisical, sun-drenched world of turquoise lagoons, powder-soft white sands and the unhurried pace of island life. Your time here can be spent exactly as you wish – that may be moving with the sun from the pool to the

beach to the bar, exploring the house reef with a snorkel, or taking part in some of the many activities that are available at your hotel. With its calm lagoon, the Sun Siyam Olhuveli has plenty of watersports options, or you can indulge in a treatment at the spa. As the daylight fades, grab your favourite drink and find yourself the perfect spot to watch the sun dip gently into the ocean before dining at one of the hotel’s range of restaurants. (B,L,D)

DAY 14: FLY MALDIVES TO UK

After breakfast, travel by boat back to Male and transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK, arriving home the same day. (B)

Enjoy time at leisure in Tamarindo, where days unfold at your own pace. Relax on the wide sandy beach, ideal for swimming, easy

Those wishing to venture further might choose to discover nearby beaches such as Playa Grande or Playa Conchal, visit nature reserves rich in birdlife, monkeys and other wildlife, or take a scenic boat trip along the coast. BEFORE YOU TRAVEL

Q. How soon after making our booking will we receive confirmation?

A. Once we have received your deposit payment, we will send you a confirmation invoice within 24 hours.

Q. Do you send us information about the destinations we will visit?

A. It is essential that you read the relevant Tour Dossier before booking, which you can find on wendywutours.co.uk, or we can arrange for one to be sent to you. If there are any particular challenges such as the length of time spent on your feet, journey times or accommodation standards, they will be explained in these concise trip notes. Two weeks before you travel, you will receive a detailed day-by-day itinerary, a travel guide and phrasebook as well as a suggested packing list with your final documents.

Q. Will I know which hotels I will be staying in before I go?

A. Hotel details for your tour will be sent with your final documents around two weeks prior to departure. Note that these may be subject to change. Hotels generally range from 3-4 stars. In more remote areas, accommodation may be of a lower standard and may not have all western amenities. Rest assured that all hotels used by Wendy Wu Tours are regularly inspected by our partners to ensure that standards meet your needs. Your beach resort will be in the hotel named on your itinerary. If you require an early check-in or late check-out for your arrival and departure days, please contact us.

Q. How do I get my visa?

A. When you make your booking, we will advise you on the latest visa requirements for your destination. Our operations team will get in touch with you nearer the time of your departure with full information on how to obtain your visa.

Q. Do I need travel insurance?

A. Your protection and safety are our main priority. That’s why having adequate travel insurance is a condition of booking with us for all the destinations you plan to travel to.

What vaccinations do I need?

Vaccination requirements often change, therefore for up to date information please refer to www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk and always seek your doctor’s advice.

What size are your tour groups?

The group size on our Classic tours is on average around 21 passengers, with a maximum group size 28. On our Go Beyond tours and exclusive Solo Departures the average group size is around 14 and the maximum is 18. You may meet other tour groups travelling concurrently. On our group tours we operate a seat-and-a-half policy, allowing you to travel in greater comfort.

On some of our Tour & Beach holidays, the whole group may be travelling on to the beach, on others it could be as few as just you and your travelling companion. See the holiday descriptions on each page for more details.

Q. Do you run guaranteed departures?

A. Group tours are guaranteed to run subject to a minimum of 8 passengers. A National Escort will accompany each group of 10 or more. We will endeavour to run groups of a smaller size if viable to do so.

Q. As a single traveller, will I have to pay a single supplement?

A. We offer several options for single travellers joining our tours. The first is to book onto one of our Solo Departures, which are reserved exclusively for solo travellers and have single occupancy of a double room built into the tour price (plus free access to an airport lounge and a welcome cocktail on arrival) or, if you prefer, you can pay the single room supplement on a regular departure and have a private room reserved for you. Another possibility is to choose our ‘Happy to Share’ option where, if we can find you a share partner of the same gender, your Single Supplement will be removed from your booking. We regret that Happy to Share requests cannot be accepted within 75 days of departure.

Q. What is the maximum luggage allowance on your tours?

A. If your tour includes internal flights your main suitcase or backpack must not exceed 20kg and your hand luggage must not exceed 5kg as this is the maximum allowance on most internal flights. If there are no internal flights on your tour then your allowance is the international flight limit.

Q. What currency should I take?

A. We recommend you take sterling or US dollars as well as the local currency and a credit/debit card. We do not recommend travellers cheques. Please ensure you have sufficient funds to pay for personal expenses such as drinks, snacks, souvenirs, additional tipping and optional extras.

Q. How fit do I need to be?

A. Our group tours are graded on each page with a Physical Rating to reflect the level of fitness required. The specific reasons for a particular grading for each tour are clearly described in the Detailed Tour Itinerary which you can find on our website. Please contact us if you require any advice.

Our range of Private tours is more flexible and may better cater for individual needs. Ask us for more details.

Q. What does escorted touring mean?

A. Every group tour with 10 or more passengers will be accompanied by a National Escort from when you arrive, to when you depart. On multi-country tours, different National Escorts are used in each country. In the event that your group is fewer than 10 you will be accompanied by local guides in each location. Beach stays are not accompanied by a National Escort; however you will have the benefit of the resort staff. Transfers and flights to and from optional extension destinations are not escorted. Private tours are not accompanied by a National Escort, but will be accompanied by knowledgeable local guides in each location.

Q. Can special requests be arranged?

A. If you have any special requests such as dietary requirements, or if you wish to celebrate an event, please notify us at the time of booking and we will do everything possible to ensure your requests are met. Please note that special requests cannot be guaranteed.

Q. Is there a dress code on your tours?

A. Our dress code is very relaxed; however, please note that clothing covering the arms and legs is more appropriate when visiting religious buildings.

Q. What sort of vehicles do you use?

Air: Internal flights are based on economy class, with reputable airlines.

Road: Coaches with air conditioning are used on our group tours for city sightseeing, short excursions to the countryside and longer transfers where necessary. On our private tours we use air-conditioned vehicles suitable for the size of the party.

River: Ships or boats are used on tours which have a cruising element, from river cruising ships on the Mekong to comfortable, wellequipped sailing vessels on Halong Bay. To undertake these excursions, you will need to be capable of boarding and disembarking from these boats, sometimes without assistance and/or handrails.

Q. Are meals included?

A. All meals (excluding beverages) are included in our group tours except where stated. Please note that in remote areas, meals may be simple and choices limited. At the beach resorts you will generally stay on bed & breakfast basis, offering flexibility for those who wish to explore local restaurants. If you book a fully inclusive Classic Tour your first meal will be dinner on the day of arrival and will end with breakfast on the normal day of departure. Any additional meals will be at your own expense and no refund will be made for any meals missed. You will sample a range of local cuisine with occasional western meals, and meals are usually taken at local restaurants.

Q. Is tap water safe to drink?

A. We strongly recommend that you drink bottled water only.

Q. Do you allow children on your tours?

A. We allow children 12 years and over on our Classic group tours. Alternatively, our Private Tours (see our website) offer greater flexibility whilst on tour and are suitable for any age group.

Q. Will I be travelling with passengers from other countries?

A.

travellers from the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Occasionally we are joined by English speaking passengers from other countries.

Q. What is the average age on your group tours?

A. The average age range is 40-65. Younger and older passengers travel with us too.

Q. What hours of the day do your tours operate?

A. They generally start at about 8am and end shortly after your evening meal. Occasionally earlier starts are required to meet flight departures or to visit sights at the best time of day. During the beach stay at the end of your tour you can relax as much as you like!

Q. How do standards abroad compare with the UK?

A. We will do our best to ensure that your holiday is safe and trouble free and we are continually working with our local partners to maintain and improve health and safety standards. Travelling abroad involves new places and new experiences and sometimes this means different safety and hygiene standards to those we are used to in the UK. We therefore ask that you take care; pay attention at all times and use your common sense. You are also requested to refer to notices and follow advice from your National Escort or local guide.

A. Tipping is expected in many countries

Health & Safety

Your health, safety and well-being on holiday are of paramount importance to us. Wendy Wu Tours is a fully insured and bonded tour operator with comprehensive public liability cover. Working closely with an independent health and safety organisation, our local partners carry out health and safety checks on accommodation, transport and excursions; and works with our destination partners and suppliers towards improving health and safety standards throughout the regions in which we operate. All travellers should be aware that safety standards vary across the different regions we visit and may not match the standards we enjoy in the UK. In the unlikely event of a problem or emergency on tour, Wendy Wu Tours has a Crisis Management process in place to support all of our customers. We also have a dedicated 24 hour emergency support number.

and based on many years of experience, Wendy Wu Tours operates a kitty system on our group tours where tipping is part of the local culture, so your National Escort will collect a tips kitty at the start of the tour and look after this aspect of your trip for you. It also ensures that the amounts paid are reasonable for you but still fair for the local people. The amount is stated on each group tour page (and will be advised again in your final documents).

Any additional tipping on any of our tours is welcomed at your discretion. Please feel free to tip restaurant staff, porters, or river guides if they performed a special service for you. For tours with fewer than 10 passengers, tipping will be slightly higher than stated on the group tour pages. On Private tours and extensions, we will advise recommended amounts.

The specific amounts for tipping contributions will be outlined in your final documentation.

To secure your booking, we ask for a non-refundable deposit of £350 per person. The remaining balance is due at least 75 days before departure. In some cases (for example flight upgrades) a higher deposit may be needed.

Travel Documents

For most destinations, you’ll need a passport with at least 6 months’ validity and two blank pages. While we assist and cover the cost of pre-arranged travel visas for UK and Irish passport holders (unless otherwise specified), you are ultimately responsible for ensuring you have the correct passport and visas to travel.

Health & Travel Insurance

Please arrange any recommended vaccinations in good time before your trip. You’ll also need suitable travel insurance in place before booking.

Changing Your Booking

If you need to make changes before paying your balance, there’s a £50 admin fee plus any additional costs incurred, such as non-refundable flights or cruise deposits.

Cancelling Your Booking

If you need to cancel, the following charges usually apply:

• 75+ days before departure: loss of deposit

• 42–74 days: 30%

• 28–41 days: 60%

• 15–27 days: 90%

• 14 days or less: 100%

Some parts of your trip may be non-refundable – if this is the case, we will explain it to you when you book.

If We Need to Change Your Holiday

Occasionally, we may need to make changes to your holiday. If this happens, we’ll let you know as soon as possible. If it’s a major change, you can choose a different holiday or receive a full refund.

Special Requests

If you have any special requirements (such as dietary needs), please let us know before booking. We’ll do our best to accommodate them, though we can’t guarantee every request.

Fitness & Medical Conditions

Each tour has a ‘physical rating’ and the activity levels are described in the tour’s Detailed Tour Itinerary. It is your responsibility to check these carefully and be sure you can participate without adverse effect on the group.
