WORKING TOGETHER

Wells Cathedral School is a coeducational boarding and day School located in the heart of Somerset for pupils aged 2-18 years. Established by royal decree to educate the Choristers from the neighbouring Cathedral in 909AD the School has evolved to provide an excellent all-round education to around 700 pupils. Wells Cathedral School is also the only School to offer three incredible specialisms in Music, Mathematics and Football alongside an all-round education.

PARTNER IMPACT
I started singing when I was six or seven. I came to Wells Cathedral School when I was 10, as a Chorister and my love of singing grew from there. After the choir I made it onto the Vocal Specialist programme at Wellswhich set the course for everything that has come since
My parents would never have been in a position to pay for me to go to private school. The only reason I could go to Wells was because of a significant bursary.
When I was young, I didn’t really know what having a bursary meant, or what it was. I just remember my parents telling me that I was really lucky to have this opportunity, to work hard and not mess up! As I got older, and learned about money in the real world, I understood how incredible this gift was The fact that somebody who doesn’t know me gave that money because they believed in me and wanted me to do well is unbelievable - because without it I would not be where I am today. I genuinely owe everything I’ve achieved so far to a bursary. If I had the chance, I’d tell the donor that they made a good investment, it’s paid off I hope they would be thrilled.

A bursary was completely life changing. It gave me the opportunity to come to Wells and have the experiences that comes with this kind of education.
I joined the School in Year 1 and continued through until Sixth Form Financially, it was difficult to stay at the School, and my mum and dad made a lot of sacrifices. But it still wouldn’t have been possible without a bursary.
Being at Wells was huge because it meant I got to do what I loved all the time. Sport was a big part of my School life, playing three or four times a week, as well as for my local rugby club and four years with Bristol Bears. I was proud to be selected First XV Rugby Captain in my final year.
Partner Impact
I am extremely thankful for the support I was given. I developed academically, grew in my sport, and moved on to the University of Nottingham. The best thing about Wells is my friends, I have had the same group since I was six, it’s the best sense of community. A bursary made all of this possible, and I will always be grateful.
