WELLY PHANT ’ S FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
Told in Three Languages!
Once upon a time, there was a brave little elephant named Wellyphant, who was very excited to start his first day at Wellington.
When he arrived at the school gate, he suddenly felt very worried. He was going to leave his family for the first time.

He cried a little, but he was soon greeted by Ms monkey who welcomed him with open arms. He waved goodbye to his mummy, knowing she would come back later.
!Vroom!
As he walked into the classroom, he saw lots of other animals there too. There were animals reading books, animals building towers and even animals driving cars. Wellyphant felt a little nervous because he had never been to this classroom before.
The teachers showed him around the classroom and introduced him to the other animals.
Ms Monkey saw Wellyphant looking at all the lovely books, so they sat and read one together.
The teachers showed the children three special words “Ready, Respectful and Safe.” These words help us care for ourselves and each other at school.

During the continuous provision time, Wellyphant realised that there were lots of things he didn't know yet, like how to put on his socks or use the tricky scissors. But he also realised that he was surrounded by friends who were eager to help him learn.
Ms Monkey was very kind to him, always offering encouragement and help.
在自由活动时间，Wellyphant 意识到自己还有很多不会的事情， 比如怎么穿袜子或是怎么使用剪刀。
但他同时也发现自己身边的小朋友们都非常积极地想要帮助自己。
猴子老师对他非常友善，总是鼓励他并随时向他提供帮助。

During outdoor learning, Wellyphant discovered that he loved sensory play. He enjoyed the feeling of the sand between his toes and the water on his paws.
However, he got upset when he looked down and saw that his new uniform had become dirty. He didn't want to be seen with a dirty T-shirt, and he felt embarrassed.

Ms Monkey noticed Wellyphant was upset and offered him a clean T-shirt to change into. They reminded him that it was okay to get dirty while playing and that it was all part of the fun. Wellyphant felt better and continued to play with his new friends.

Wellyphant noticed that some of the other animals were really good at certain games, like tag and hide and seek. Wellyphant didn't feel very confident in these games because he had never played them before. But instead of giving up, he asked the other animals to show him how to play. They were happy to help.

While playing, Wellyphant slipped and grazed his knee. He let out a soft whimper, trying to be brave. Ms Monkey rushed to comfort him with a hug and a band-aid, reassuring him with gentle words "You will be alright, Wellyphant".

Soon, Wellyphant was running around again and having a great time.
After his joyous but messy time with outdoor sensory play, Wellyphant remembered what Ms Monkey had told him earlier about keeping safe. Wellyphant made his way to the little sink in the classroom. He stood on his tiptoes, reached for the soap dispenser, and rubbed his hands together all by himself. It was another step toward independence, and Wellyphant beamed with pride at his newfound skill.

Wellyphant felt really thirsty. He remembered seeing a water dispenser in the corner of the classroom. With a little instruction from Ms Monkey, Wellyphant pushed the bottle with his hands and watched as the water filled his water bottle. Wellyphant felt so proud of being able to get water all by himself.

At lunchtime, Wellyphant faced another new challenge: the school lunch. He peeked at the unfamiliar food on his tray and felt his nose wrinkle in hesitation. It was a colourful medley of chicken, rice and some vegetables he hadn't seen before.
午餐时，Wellyphant 又面临着一项新的挑战： 学校餐食。他瞥了眼盘子里不是很熟悉的食物， 感到有些迟疑。盘里装的是鸡肉、 米饭还有一些他从来没见过的蔬菜。

With a first bite, he was prepared not to like it. However, as he chewed, he found the flavours surprisingly delightful. “Mmmm, yummy!” said Wellyphant and he had cleaned his plate completely. 鼓起勇气咬下第一口的时候，他已经做好了不喜欢的准备，

Once lunch was over, Ms Monkey dimmed the lights in the classroom.
‘It’s time for our afternoon nap,” she announced. Wellyphant and the others took their places on little mats and had a good rest.
午餐结束之后，猴子老师把教室里的灯光调暗了， 他说：“现在是午觉时间。”
Wellyphant 和其他的小朋友们在自己的小床铺上各就各位， 美美地睡了一觉。
After his restful afternoon nap, Wellyphant was getting ready to go home. It was time to pack our bags. Ms Monkey watched with a proud smile as Wellyphant did this task by himself!
At the end of the day, Wellyphant was tired but happy. He made his way to the school gate where he saw his family waiting for him.
He couldn’t wait to come back to Wellington and learn even more. As he left the classroom, he looked up at the bright blue sky and trumpeted with joy. He knew that he had made new friends, and he was excited to play with them again, even if it meant getting a little dirty.
