Brown trout, smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, carp, yellow perch, bullhead, and white sucker.
Wilson Flats
On the outskirts of Elora, this stretch of the Grand River runs fast past tall grass and wetland shores. Parking is available on site. This is a popular location for both novice and amateur anglers.
Take the limestone stairs right into the water at Templin Gardens, in the heart of downtown Fergus. The limestone cliffs and rocky shoreline were carved by the Grand River, and the fish enjoy the speed and depth of the water here.
Gow Park
Quietly tucked into the greenspace of Union Street in Fergus is an ideal spot to enjoy fishing from the shore, or to wade in among the rocks. The river slows down here to a pace perfect to cast and relax.
Blair Park
This park offers a rugged landscape at a point on the Grand River after it has meandered through the heart of Fergus enroute to Elora.
Aboyne Trail
In the shade of the Trestle Bridge, on the edge of the forest and the shallow shoreline, this location is perfect for wading in for fly-fishing or rod and reel.
Belwood Lake
Under the stewardship of the Grand River Conservation Authority, this small lake is good for small watercraft and boasts a bounty of fish, like northern pike, walleye, smallmouth bass, carp, crappie and yellow birch. There is a pond stocked with trout to encourage anglers under the age of 13 to experience the fun of fishing. Come winter, Belwood Lake is a prime ice fishing.
Bissell Park
As the Grand River prepares to descend through the heart of Elora, into the Elora Gorge, Bissell Park offers a fast flow and a waterfall that fish enjoy. Cast from the shore and reel in the fun.
Shand Dam
This popular fishing spot brings anglers to the controlled flow of water from Belwood Lake as it flows from the Shand Dam and travels to Fergus and Elora. Downstream offers a successful brown trout fishery that also supports perch, walleye and bullhead. The bounty of fish here is the stuff of tall tales.
Confederation Park
An ideal fishing spot for novice and amateurs alike, this is a large park with a grand waterfall, with a calm flow that cascades quickly creating pooling and rapids. Fish love it here. You will too.
Pierport Park
Locals know this tranquil location because the fish love it too. Shallow waters in a wide section of the Grand River, it’s a fly-fishing favourite purely for the love of the sport.

The David Street Bridge
