Careers Newsletter July 2021 As we approach the summer holidays this is a reminder to keep talking and thinking about careers. There are amazing resources available - have a go at https://icould.com/buzz-quiz to gain ideas. For general research look at www.eclips-online.co.uk password “Soephi24” with a capital “S”. Remember that the “related” button is useful as it outlines other careers using similar transferable skills. Read the news and form your opinions, ideally read the whole article rather than the headlines on an app. This is so important for future interviews; your views are as important as anyone’s if you can support them. The term ended with two exciting career events: “Wellingborough School – The Apprentice” involving Year 11 and 12 students was an exciting day with BBC Apprentice Judge Nick Hewer present. A series of lectures from OW guest speakers informed and inspired Year 12. Pupils heard from a recruiter as to why they will not receive a rejection letter and how many people attend each interview. They were told about life at university when they leave the structure of School and given some top tips to help pace themselves. The talks culminated with an inspirational story about tenacity and putting life in perspective - I hope they enjoyed it. I want to take this opportunity to wish Wellingborough School and all the staff and pupils the best of luck going forward. I leave after 16 years for pastures new and it has been a real privilege to support the young people at Wellingborough School as Head of Careers. The pupils are likable, grounded and impressive and when a 15-year-old emails you to say “thank you for the support” it is something I will never take for granted. Thank you to Claire Brailsford for her admin support, all the businesses, OWs and parents who I have enjoyed working with and who have supported the department. I hope you will continue to support the School – it makes such a huge difference to our young people. Finally, a message to the pupils: “find out what you like doing best and get someone to pay you for doing it" - I did! Thank you. An increasing number of green employment options are now available, ranging from careers in renewable energy to becoming an ecologist or sustainability manager. Many of these careers require a degree but there are some, where entry is via an apprenticeship or post-school employment.
Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeships The Civil Service offers two-year Higher Level Apprenticeships in six operational areas: policy, business, commercial, digital data and technology, finance and project delivery. There is a two-stage application process – online aptitude tests followed by a day at an assessment centre.
