Area Fire and Rescue Departments to Host 9/11 25th Anniversary Ceremony

KENNEBUNK 25 years ago, the United States experienced one of the darkest days in its history. On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 innocent people lost their lives, including 343 firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers, 55 military personnel, and thousands of civilians whose lives were forever changed. On the 25th anniversary of September 11, area fire departments and rescue organizations invite firefighters, fire department honor guards, emergency medical personnel, law
enforcement officers, military personnel, veterans, elected officials, community leaders, and members of the public to join in a solemn ceremony of remembrance, reflection, and gratitude. The ceremony will honor the courage and sacrifice of those who gave their lives in service to others, recognize the dedication of today’s first responders, and reaffirm the public’s commitment to never forget the heroes and victims of that fateful day. Finding Our Voices to Host Retreat for Domestic Abuse Survivors WELLS Rebekah Lowell—observer, naturalist, and survivor—will lead a Finding Our Voices “Healing Together” day retreat focused on nature journaling for sister survivors of domestic abuse at Wells Reserve at Laudholm, 342 Laudholm Farm Road, Wells, on Monday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sliding-scale fee ranges from $0 to $100, with all art supplies provided. Lowell is the author and illustrator of three books, including the middle-grade novel “The Road to After,” told through the eyes of a child and based on her own 10-year experience with domestic abuse. Pumpkin Patch Celebrates 12 Years YORK The Pumpkin Patch at First Parish Church, 180 York St., York, is a cherished fall tradition that began in 2014, when the first tractor-trailer arrived in front of the Parish House. Since then, the annual event has continued to draw people from near and far. Each year, visitors choose pumpkins and gourds while sharing stories, building connections, and creating memories that become lasting traditions. They leave with more than they
planned to buy, having discovered a network that connects families along the Maine coast with Navajo, Zuni, and Hopi families who grow and harvest the pumpkins and gourds in the Southwest. Children gather around tables of craft supplies to decorate their pumpkins, working side by side and encouraging one another.
