America250 Celebration to Feature Reading of Declaration Free Cookout, Concert of Independence KITTERY The town of Kittery will host a free community cookout and concert on Tuesday, July 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kittery Community Center, 120 Rogers Road, as part of its America 250 celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The event will feature a community cookout, live music, and family activities including bounce houses, face painting, temporary tattoos, bubble stations, and lawn games. Free ice cream will be available while sup-

plies last, courtesy of Mrs. & Me. The celebration is hosted in partnership with the Town of Kittery, Kittery Community Center,

Kittery Police Department, Kittery Fire Department, American Legion Post 188, Kittery Historical & Naval Society, Rice Public Library, Kittery School District, and Kittery Rotary. Sponsors for the concert include Kennebunk Savings and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard MWR. Volunteers are also being sought to help with grilling during the event. Women of the American Revolution OGUNQUIT On Thursday, July 9, at 5 p.m., the Ogunquit Heritage Museum, in conjunction with the Historical Society of Wells and Ogunquit, will host Rita Parisi of Waterfall Productions for a solo theatrical performance of “Women of ’76,” highlighting the lives of women who witnessed and documented the American Revolution. Audiences will meet voices rarely heard in history books, including Baroness Frederika von Riedesel, the German noblewoman whose journals capture the chaos of war; Prudence Wright, the Massachusetts patriot who led a militia of women to capture Tory spies; Nancy

Hart, the Georgia frontierswoman who confronted a band of British soldiers; Mary Katharine Goddard, the printer and publisher who issued the first printed Declaration of Independence to include the names of the signers; and Mary Gould Almy, a loyalist diarist whose firsthand accounts documented the siege of Newport. Their stories, spanning patriot and loyalist perspectives, reveal a more complex portrait of the American Revolution. KENNEBUNK On Saturday, July 4, at noon, the Town of Kennebunk will mark the Fourth of July with a public reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Kennebunk Town Hall Auditorium, 1 Summer St. The event commemorates 250 years since the document was written in 1776. The reading is co-hosted by the Kennebunk Rotary Club and the Brick Store Museum, with the Historical Society of Wells & Ogunquit serving as a historical

partner. Following the reading, organizers will provide historical context on events in the region and the nation after 1776. The program will conclude with a reading of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, delivered by history teacher Joe Foster. Admission is free, although donations will be accepted at the door. Car Museum to Honor Veterans on America250 ARUNDEL The Maine Classic Car Museum has announced a Fourth of July celebration to honor area veterans on America’s 250th birthday. The celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum, located at 2564 Portland Road, Arundel. The event will feature a barbecue, outdoor games, kids’ games and crafts, a World War II Jeep display and a patriotic address by Kyle Lindland, director of events and strategic partnerships.

Veterans and children under 7 will receive free museum admission and a complimentary barbecue lunch. Regular admis-

sion is $30 and includes lunch. Museum members receive free admission with a $10 lunch, while Platinum members receive

free admission and lunch at no charge. Donations collected during the celebration will support Veterans Adaptive Sports and Training (VAST) at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester.
