ederal Lindsay MP Fiona Scott says the “have a go” Budget delivered by Treasurer Joe Hockey on Tuesday night is a winner for local families and small businesses. “This Budget will deliver jobs, growth and opportunity in a way that is responsible, measured and fair,” Ms Scott said. “It is the next step in the Coalition Government’s long-term economic plan to build a stronger, safer and more prosperous future for all Australians.” Ms Scott said changes to the age pension will make it more sustainable and fairer, despite cuts to 91,000 part pensioners. New measures in the Budget will see wealthy retirees’ entitlements end, and more ‘modest’ retirees’ payments increase. “The Government is providing more assistance to pensioners with modest means and at the same time, is being responsible by making the age pension system more sustainable,” she said. “We’ve got the balance right – with no change or a higher pension for 90 per cent of age pensioners.” Ms Scott welcomed Mr Hockey’s announcement that the timetable back to a Budget surplus remains unchanged from last year. “Our economic plan is working. Economic growth is up; jobs are up – nearly 250,000 new jobs since the election and retail sales are at record levels – as are new dwelling approvals,” Ms Scott said.
