T
he tunnel that once provided access to cars from Mulgoa Road to Penrith Homemaker Centre will be removed later this month. The Wolseley Street tunnel has been closed to traffic since mid-September, as upgrades of Mulgoa Road continue, with traffic now turning at the adjacent intersection. But Transport for NSW has confirmed the tunnel will be entirely removed from next
week, with significant impact to motorists when it happens. There will be extended closures of the M4 Motorway off-ramps at Mulgoa Road to allow work to remove the tunnel. Transport for NSW says there will be three 48-hour work periods during November where these changes will occur. The eastbound and westbound off-ramps from the M4 to Mulgoa Road will be closed during these times. The times are Monday, November 4 from 5am until Wednesday, November 6
at 5am; Monday, November 11 from 5am until Wednesday, November 13 at 5am; and Monday, November 18 at 5am until Wednesday, November 20 at 5am. It will force drivers to use alternate routes. “Road users are requested to use the Russell Street and The Northern Road ramps to access Mulgoa Road during ramp closures,” Transport for NSW said in a statement. “Both eastbound and westbound on-ramps to access the M4 from Mulgoa Road will remain open during the 48-hour closures, with the eastbound on-ramp from Mulgoa
Road to the M4 closed for one night on November 7 from 9pm to 5am.” The Wolseley Street access to the Penrith Homemaker Centre will remain open at all times but will be reduced to one lane in and one lane out during these times. Access will also be available via Pattys Place and Blaikie Road. Drivers are advised to take care and follow the directions of signage and speed limits. There will ultimately be dual right turn lanes off Mulgoa Road into Wolseley Street and the Homemaker Centre.
