Penrith childcare centre will cease operations with “safety, rights and best interests” of children given as the core reason. Greenwood Penrith, located in the historic Thornton Hall, will officially close its doors on Friday, May 15. “Children and families sit at the heart of everything
we do, and this commitment has guided a difficult decision that was not made lightly,” a letter sent to parents last week said. No specific circumstances for the closure were provided in the letter, but the Weekender is aware of action that has been taken against the centre by authorities. In May last year, the centre was issued an Emergency Action Notice by the State Government over non-com-
pliance with laws and regulations. The Notice stated that the service was “operating in a matter that poses, or is likely to pose, an immediate risk to the safety, health or wellbeing of a child or children being educated and cared for by the service”. It is one of four enforcement actions issued to the service over the past two years. Story continues on » p. 3
