In this cold, cold winter all we want to do is cuddle up in a warm razai next to a cosy log fire and get some much needed down time with our favourite reads and a big mug of garam chai! If only this simple wish could ever come true; it’s certainly an unlikely prospect with the current onslaught of winter weddings and associated soirees. Speaking of, we begin this week’s issue with our usual hip and happening events Around Town. In Style Swap we play dress up, the freaky Friday way, with rising star models and BFFs, Saheefa Jabbar and Rehmat Ajmal, in Fitness First, Zainub Abbas of Route2 Pilates solves our workout dilemmas and in Travel and Cake, Shanaz Ramzi takes us on an adventure through America! Also, don’t miss the style A-listers our Roving Eye spotted this week and all the budget buys that have us Love Struck! All this and much more! Happy reading y’all! Sincerely, Team Weekend

Saheefa JabBar Casual All The Way!
Saheefa’s take on styling Rehmat
I am a very casual person, I prefer comfort above all else, and so usually dress casually. My go to look is white sneakers, blue jeans and white T-shirt. I usually pair this with my reliable maroon jacket in winters, which is warm and comfortable. To turn any outfit into a style statement for myself, I will add a dash of color to the outfit and that’s why I wore this Red Cape by Nishat Linen, which not only looks good, but is super warm and cozy also.
JANUARY 22, 2017 | 57
Saheefa’s style statement
Rehmat has a very elegant and chic style sense. She can pull off any outfit with so much grace and sophistication. I chose this sparkly jogging suit from Nishat Linen for her and paired it with the ever reliable black Almas sneakers because I wanted her to wear something fun and casual, much like my own style. To complete the look,I had her tie half her hair in a pony, to give the look a sporty fun effect.

Understated Glam! Saheefa’s Outfit Chiffon formal by Nishat linen Shoes by Zara Watch by Lacoste
Rehmat’s Outfit Silk tunic by Nishat Linen Shoes by Shoe Planet Bag by Mango
Rehmat’s Take on Styling Saheefa I styled Saheefa in this black chiffon top by Nishat, which is perfect for a night out; it’s both comfortable and chic! I paired this look with Zara heels to add an oomph factor because Saheefa usually wears comfy sneakers. I also gave her edgy dark lips to bring out the glam side in her. I love monochromes, and all black attires are not only special, but never go out of style, especially when you’re going for a formal chic look.
Rehmat’s Style Statement My style statement shouts comfort but with elegance. I would wear anything and everything that I find myself comfortable in but without compromising on a bit of understated glam. I like playing with different colours that are subtle, and fall somewhere in the midst of monochromes but sometimes I like pushing myself out of my comfort zone, and experiment with dashes of bright colours and prints that pop to help me make a statement.

e’ll start with the least annoying commenter that we face and this is the person that only has nice things to say. This is the guy who will usually make our day by commenting “MashAllah nice click” on pictures and leaves it at that. The Nice Girl will also only leave a positive comment and not elaborate further. We have no problem with constructive criticism or comments that don’t start a war so naturally, we love The Nice Guy or Girl.

veryone who uses the internet is familiar with the trolls of social media. These are usually people who have nothing better to do with their time except to leave sanctimonious, preachy comments on posts that may be different from their own views.Trolls will argue “freedom of speech” and prefix their troll comments with “this is a public page and I’m entitled to my opinion so I’m just going to state my nasty comment and ruin someone’s day”. We got no time for these wasters!

ur personal favourite is The Clapback—this is the person that replies with something so witty when they’re attacked, that we wish we had thought of it. It’s a combination of wit and shade that shuts down the person that is simply out of line. The best clapbacks in our opinion are those that are well thought out and those that don’t resort to nasty insults. We applaud the clapback experts!

ow we don’t usually get to read many comments from professional spammers but we have read the occasional one or two on our posts. These are people that post links to random websites or will just post a “likes for followers?” comment and hope no one notices. We don’t know whether these are legit accounts that spam and neither do we care to find out!

There are people that sit in their parents’ basements on an ancient Dell desktop or using a fancy smartphone. They could be the cute guy (or girl) you have a crush on, or that creepy guy who won’t stop sending you friend requests. The Internet has many commenters and all of them have something to say. Some feel it’s their duty and right to comment and let us all know what they think is right or wrong. After running a public Instagram page for over a year, we’ve narrowed down the types of internet commenters that we come across and who give us a chance to practice our petty block button.

My name is

n a recent trip to the States and Canada with my husband, we drove with my sister and brother-in-law from Maryland to a beach town near New York, to spend the weekend with my nephew, Uzair, and his family. The drive was beautiful with nature at its amazing best. It seemed like an artist had been let loose with his paints, painting trees that were a riot of colour with a single stroke of his brush. Reaching my nephew’s home while it was still daylight we decided not to waste any time, and make the most of the short but picturesque walk from his place down to the beach. Although Halloween was long over the houses we passed by still had spooks, skeletons and cobwebs adorning their walls, gardens and rooftops and it was fascinating to see the creative and novel ways in which people had done up their houses. The beach was a far cry from the beaches that we are used to for there was a lush park flanking it rather than a sandy shore, and with the park at an elevation we could enjoy the view from a vantage point, also ideal for taking pictures. A couple seated close-by, accompanied by a huge

dog that seemed almost like a bear from a distance, was a source of great fascination for our family. After a sumptuous Mexican meal of tacos prepared by my nephew’s wife, Sharmeen, we spent the evening relaxing at home with the family. The next morning we got up to the fragrance of an equally mouthwatering breakfast comprising fratata, pancakes, scones and fresh fruits. After an early breakfast hubby and I took a drop to the station so that we could spend the day in Manhattan, as no trip to the States is complete for us without visiting this great, bustling city. Arriving at the impressive Grand Central Station in Manhattan, we discovered it was a chilly day, but nothing could keep us from our favourite walk down Fifth Avenue, browsing in the many alluring stores it offers. We called up the daughters of two of our close friends, both of whom are working in Manhattan, and luckily since it was Sunday, found them both at home and available. So a spontaneous lunch programme was aking, a Chinese restaurant that serves halal meat, and which was a short walk away from the Broadway theatre where we were booked for a matinee play, Waitress. The food was good and company even better, and after an enjoyable meal with the girls, we parted ways and headed for the theatre. An enjoyable musical, it finished just in time for us to walk down to Times Square, and shop a little before meeting our friends for dinner. We ate at a sprawling restaurant called STK – a modern take on the traditional steakhouse -- which serves excellent seafood as well, and then headed back home to chill with the family. The next day hubby and I set off on our own for Connecticut – it is amazing how simple it is to navigate your way using the phone app Waze, which was our companion throughout our fiveweek stay in the various cities of Canada and USA. We reached at the doorstep of my very old and dear school friend, Nilofer Mateen, just in time for a scrumptious meal prepared by her husband and then after relaxing for a while, got ready for the book launch of my book Food Prints, that Nilofer had organized in the Windsor Public Library. A great event on a bitingly cold day, it was heart-warming to see the turnout and the trouble Nilofer had taken to ensure that every minute detail from hors d oeuvres to paper plates, napkins and the works had been taken care of. After spending a relaxing night at her home on the heels of a hectic day, and calling in for pizzas, we packed in to start off bright and early the next day heading back to Maryland. Although we couldn’t believe we had done so much in just three days, we knew a lot more was in store for us!

Sadaf Kanwal
Our roving eye is quite taken with this stunning supermodel. We love how Sadaf breaks the busy jungle print of this jumpsuit with a plain long coat.
Amna Zain
Amna looks super comfortable and chic in a white co-ord with black contrast trims. The black low heeled pumps compliment the easy yet elegant vibe of this outfit.

This week, we sat with fitness maven and founder of Route2 Pilates; Zainub Abbas. Pilates is a feel good exercise; it strengthens you from the inside and gives you long term benefits which are great for your body. Route 2 Pilates studio has been running for eight years now. Not only is it a studio but it is also an educational institute, providing international certification And training, offering exercises like yoga and rhythm (dance) classes. What is your fitness philosophy? I believe whichever form of exercise you choose to do, make sure that it is sustainable movement which can be repeated over and over again without a complete burn out. What are your workout
routines like? I try to work out an hour at least 3 times a week along with an hour of yoga once a week. When was your “Aha!” moment? When you felt like you were successful at what you do? Nothing compares to the success of our trainers.
My “Aha!” moment has to be when our trainers passed anatomy certification, it was how we were able to teach them something so complex which they had no prior knowledge of and to be able to witness the success of that is pretty amazing.
weekend | Health calm, energetic & patient when I’m working out, and of course fitting into nice clothes is an added benefit. Biggest fitness misconception in your opinion? When people work out and eat well only for a certain amount of time and then go back to their old routines. That is not how it works; you must stay consistent throughout your life. Dieting is another misconception in my opinion. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions
bringing them down. That is why I discourage people from getting on the scale; it’s just depressing to look at. What is the common reason people fail to achieve their goals? People fail to achieve their goals because they lack consistency, and the fact that they’re obsessing over the wrong things. So many women just want to be a size 0 and I’ve realised that actually women look great when they’re a little healthier and curvier because it isn’t about shrinking it’s about being more functionally strong, flexible & healthy no matter what your size is.

When was that moment when you realised you needed a change of lifestyle before you got into fitness? I’ve been a fitness junkie since I was 18. For a long time I was doing all kinds of fad exercises until the day I tried pilates. I instantly fell in love with it; and so much so that I went ahead and got trained and certified for it. What motivates you to work out every day? The fact that it makes me feel good. I am more
and you end up in a bad place. All you need to do is keep your portions small. You can eat whatever you want, don’t deny yourself, just control your portions. Your favourite quote or mantra? “Above all, learn to breathe” – Joseph Pilates How do I lose belly fat? Move, even if it’s just walking. The more active you are the better. How often should we be weighing ourselves? We don’t weigh or measure anyone here especially because most probably you end up gaining a pound or two as muscle weighs more than fat. Sometimes there’s a point where a person is feeling good, they know they look good and they’re fitting into clothes better yet the weighing scale is
