The MGT woman is the embodiment of strength, elegance and tradition. Channeling old world charm inspired by the regal aesthetics of the Mughal period, Maheen Ghani Taseer’s latest bridal couture collection is an ode to the cultural heritage of our vibrant homeland. Intricately detailed embellishment on a canvas of luxurious fabrics harks back to a time of opulence and royal sophistication. A juxtaposition of traditional techniques and modern silhouettes make this the perfect collection for any bride.

New Yea It’s time we bid farewell to the trends we discovered and (over)loved in 2016 (enough of velvet already!) and make way for some super fun trends we think will be HUGE in 2017!!
widely followed fashion guru and style star, gives a lowdown on the hottest trends of the season!
Think Pink
Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection is proof that pink is officially Karl Lagerfeld approved!
A wave of femininity breaks over the fashion world, as the colour pink has its huge moment on the Fall/Winter 2016-2017 runways. From blush rose to bright magenta to pepto-pink, in short anything and everything pink is going to be hot hot hot in 2017! Its safe to say that pink is the new black.
Old World Charm
NOVEMber DECEMBER20, 11, 2016 2016||88 62
The charm of vintage fashion is an undying trend that unfailingly gets revived every now and then and we’re mad excited about saath lara haars, jhoomars, mang tikkas, chadars and ghararas pants making a come back in 2017!
Through his “Khamooshi” collection, creative genius, Ali Xeeshan proves that there is no school like old school.
Gucci’s 2017 resort collection is as pink as it gets!
Zahra Shahjahan spins old world magic with her Mehr-un-Nisa collection!
Delpozo can do no wrong…their 2017 stripes game is super strong
Ruby Woo
Another colour on our hot list is ruby- we’re currently really feeling dark burgundy, crimson and wine red. Our very own; Elan, Sana Safinaz, Shehla Chatoor and Misha Lakhani aren’t far behind with their take on what we believe is the true colour of the season.

ear New You Super Stripes Stripes in every iteration were seen on the spring 2017 runways. From Fendi’s mix-and-match versions to Rosie Assoulin’s glittering rainbow striped dress, this classic print has us going dotty for stripes!
This Sana Safinaz creation is proof that stripes aren’t only restricted to western wear
2017 is going to be the year of bling- from local to international designers everyone is joining the metallic bandwagon. Whether for night or day, its all about shiny metallics. Time to bump up the bling factor…See you on the shiny side!!
Va Va Voom! Sana Safinaz own the ruby trend like no other.
This ruby number by Misha Lakhani has our heart!
This bling factor on this Rema & Shehrbano lehnga choli is on point!
Saint Lauren takes outfit goals to another level! Its so shiny we’re gonna die (hearteyed emojis X 10000)

The Divergent Series by Veronica Roth
Like people, some books exist to make you appreciate the ones you love. For that I am thankful for the Divergent series as it made me appreciate the gem that ‘Dune’ is. Even (UGH!) ‘The Hunger Games’. Plot is one of those tricky things that can drive a book forward even if it has undeveloped characters or unexplored motivations. That was successfully demonstrated in Divergent but in Allegiant there just isn’t any plot left. My sincere hope is that kids will use this as a stepping stone to better books. Be brave, my little bibliophiles.

The Laws of Medicine: Field Notes From An Uncertain Science by Siddhartha Mukherjee
Dr Mukherjee’s premise for the book is a familiar one for anyone fresh out of med school and into the abyss of clinical wards-- you have all this information yet remarkably little wisdom. It’s easy to forget that medicine is called the Youngest Science for a reason-- it is constantly evolving, constantly faced with new challenges. But Dr Mukherjee’s laws promise to keep you focused on what makes medicine the ‘most human science’.
Dozakhnama by Rabisankar Bal with Arunava Sinha
The premise seemed promising enough: Saadat Hassan Manto and Mirza Ghalib, infamous black sheep of Urdu literature conversing beyond the grave about their turbulent lives and the maelstrom around their art. But the terrible translation, not to mention the meandering plot, starts to erode away any pleasure you might have taken from the story. Are we in South Asia cursed with bad translators? Or will we liberate ourselves from the clutches of the Queen’s version of English in 2017? Hoping for the best, mentally preparing for the worst!
3
Harry Potter and The Cursed Child by J. K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne
Like any good party that goes on too long, the internet hysteria around reviving Hogwarts fever for the impending release of Fantastic Beasts and other trivial pursuits (e-books galore! Scripts being sold as books by the dozen!) into the world of J. K. Rowling, started to feel less nostalgic and more irritating. But, like the doomed dolphin in Douglas Adams ‘A Hitch-hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’, in 2017, I only want to wave goodbye to the behemoth of Hogwarts under Warner Brothers. Farewell, Madam Rowling! And thanks for all the fish!

The Scatter Here is Too Great by Bilal Tanweer
weekend | books
4
Shoulda Been Read Amidst the plethora of monsoonhued novels with turgid, flowery prose that had nothing to do with the story, came a novel that cut like a jagged shard of glass held to a pulsing jugular. Bilal Tanweer’s power as a writer stems from the recognition that what is strange is merely your own reflection in a smoked out mirror, that what is unfamiliar is a darkly enticing distortion of the unloved. Here is a narrative propelled solely by the agency of a single event, leaving the pages of this book felt traumatic: I didn’t want this book to end. A must read!
3
The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet
by Becky Chambers
Occasionally, there are stellar books that arrive out of no where-- you notice it popping up like dandelions on Instagram-- until you read it yourself and realize something even more better: THE HYPE IS RIGHT! Science Fiction has conventionally been unkind to female writers but Becky Chambers proves to be an exception the rule. Her book is a happy amalgamation of ‘Firefly’ meets ‘Star Trek’ with a dash of Frank Herbert’s ‘Dune’. Its a wildly exhilarating ride yet still comforting you with the knowledge that some good may still be left in the universe.

End of Watch by Stephen King
This is difficult to confess, especially since Mr King’s conclusion to the Bill Hodges Trilogy was so widely acclaimed. Here’s the thing: I expected more from this series. This is the guy who wrote ‘The Green Mile’ and ‘The Dark Tower’, people! Where was the lyrical heroism of Roland Deschain? Where was the conflicted moral compass of Paul Edgecombe? The bar had been set high but Mr King chose to play it safe. It’s a great series for anyone new to Mr King but for old fans? Come on, Mr King! Your legions of Constant Readers are growing restless.

The Vegetarian by Han Kang with Deborah Smith
In Han Kang’s searing novel, you are willing to follow the twisting thread of her narrative down until the very last turn because you become so invested in the growing horror surrounding each narrator’s voice, as the protagonist sinks deeper and deeper into her desire for control over her body and what it can or cannot draw sustenance from. Right until the last word on the last page, you are left to marvel at the intensity of this narrative and how one woman’s refusal echoes in the actions of those closest to her.
The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak
Like tulip shalwars and offshoulder tops, Elif Shafak’s novel about a marriage falling apart in the twenty-first century thanks to Maulana Rumi and Shams Tabrezi, was the IT book of the season for every self-respecting stylista (and book blogger!) in Pakistan. My own perplexed initial reaction at the time had been to wonder if everyone had bought into the hype thinking the novel to be a Turkish Sidney Sheldon (steamy title? Check. Woman in airy-fairy clothes on cover? Double check!), but like Paulo Oh-Hell-No, Elif Shafak’s empty words were the most widely quoted of 2016. Actual inspiration? Not so much, As with every newly-wed updating their post-shaadi facebook status with couplets by Rumi, Elif Shafak, too, quickly grew worse for the wear. Time alone will tell if her one famous book will continue to hold fast to the Pakistani imagination. Fingers firmly crossed!

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi
None of us is a stranger to Death. We’re just waltzing around with other partners until this beautiful stranger taps us on the shoulder and we realize, finally, its our turn. Dr Kalanithi’s book is a similar waltz, graceful and with a cadence that you will never forget. This was a haunting memoir from a physicianturned-patient at the hand of end-stage lung cancer, faced with the prospect of not a life after residency but life after his death for his wife and infant daughter. You are humbled by the knowledge that you’re reading the final testament of a man who knew he was out of time. The Dead cannot speak but when they can, they speak with tongues of fire. Read it with my caution: this book will make you take a long, hard look at your life. If you’re a physician, this book comes to you with my strongest recommendation.

Though the wildly popular Birkin Bag is said to be a greater investment than gold, we are of the opinion to also invest in better style! Don’t worry, we ain’t hatin on the mother of all carryons but speaking in terms of strict aesthetics, we do admit that designwise the Birkin has reached a complete cul-de-sac (see what we did there?)
