How did you start porcelain painting? While we lived in Holland, I’d seen my friend painting and even though I had no background in arts I felt inspired. I took classes with a friend’s wife thrice a week. We were a big group of friends so it was lovely company and a great new hobby.
Who/what is your work influenced by? Your inspirations? I work in all styles: European, Japanese, Chinese and Persian. I’m mostly inspired by Turkish and Persian styles as I’m more familiar with their motifs growing up and seeing familiar designs in our carpets for instance.

What was the very first piece you created? A Japanese imari plate (photographed) What medium do you prefer to work with and why? Oils and powder based paints as porcelain pieces need to be cooked and fired. Because porcelain is porous, it takes in all the oil and leaves the inks and paints as permanent. I bought all the porcelain, paints and my oven. How would you describe your pieces? For a person who has never painted and never thought I could, my encouragement has always been my children. My pieces give me confidence and a sense of relaxation. Porcelain painting is very scarce; in Karachi you find lots of ceramics with clay but not porcelain.

Is there anyone in particular you would like to create a piece for? Who would it be, and why? As as ambassadors wife living in many places, representing Pakistan through art in this form was a great gift to give. Our guests were the then President Musharraf and his wife.
Name a few artists who inspire you? I like to visit different museums and palaces when I visit different countries and their porcelain sections. Those are my inspirations. It’s difficult to believe all these have been painted by hand because they’re beautiful and delicate.
Where are your artworks available for sale? How should people contact you? My Facebook page is the best place to get in touch with me. I display pieces on my page. I customise certain pieces too.

I’m the creative director, junior partner and the beautician at Sabs the Salon Lahore, currently. Before this I was in New York and Boston for three years, working in partnership with two salons. They’re still up and running. Even before that I was in London, working for Lancome as one of their beauty products developer.

Who/What inspired you to come into makeup?
I grew up assisting my mom in her salon. She’s an extraordinarily hard working woman. She’s made me into one as well. I was never the owner’s daughter. I’ve literally mopped floors and served coffee at the age of 10 at her salon. Which got me my first client at the age of 13. She inspired me because she was the only one I knew. That’s all that mattered. Saba Ansari, who’s also my aunt, became my mentor. She’s one of the pioneers of the beauty industry and she really inspires me.

To make them ‘White’. It’s the most common and bizarre thing ever. We need to break the norm. Own the dusky complexion ladies. It’s beautiful. Aim for an even skin tone, not a lighter one.
What are the three items in your makeup kit that you can never ever be without? My lip balm, mascara and sunblock.
Tell us a beauty hack you rely on the most?
There’s a product called Moroccan oil, unavailable in Pakistan, it’s little bottle does wonders. I use it as hair serum for instant shine and
taming, as a moisturiser, lip balm and even as a perfume cuz it smells so yummy! You’ll always find a bottle in my purse.
How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists?
My hair is mostly in a simple blow out. For face, brows on fleek, loads of mascara, contoured face, eyes with a fat wing or kajal, and matte pink lips. What sets me apart from the others would be the fact that I believe makeup should be used to enhance ones features to their maximum potential, not to paint another face on top.
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
I see myself in the next five years being more than just a beautician. Im getting there. InshAllah.

I’ve always been inclined towards makeup and believe in all forms of artistic expression. I took some time off work and found myself enjoying every moment I spent doing/working with makeup.

Layering products and mixing up textures to create a balanced look without overwhelming the face . Applying makeup in thin layers and building up is key for long-lasting and flawless makeup for eyes , lips and face.
How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists? Experimental. I don’t produce photocopies . All my clients get a different customized look. I don’t like repeating a look because it gets monotonous and boring.
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
I have a longgggg way to go. More work , learning and collaborations. I want to open up a makeup school in Pakistan because there is a desperate need for one!

I think it is the technique you use that makes your style different from other makeup artists. I make face charts before working on my fashion or creative looks. That’s how I keep my record. I rarely send anyone out of my chair without glitter on their eyes. Glitter is simply IRRESISTIBLE.
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
Well, life is unpredictable. I never thought i’d be a makeup artist. I have plans but the future is full of mysteries. Hey, but who doesn’t wanna be rich and famous?
Well my signature style is different in the way that cut crease and double cut crease has never been followed in Pakistan on brides. I will be offering this unique modern style in addition to the conventional eastern look.
so where do you see yourself in next 5 years? I aspire to be seen on the covers of leadings magazines in Pakistan and abroad. I also hope to be running 3 to 4 salons worldwide.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. And how did the inspiration come about for Super Savari Express (SSE)? Having lived abroad while pursuing higher studies, I moved back to Pakistan with the desire to want to discover the true essence of my own city. A few of us friends decided to hire a mini bus and take a Sunday tour around Karachi. It’s when we started receiving calls and queries from people on how they could also go on tour, that we realized we had stumbled upon something, which then led us to creating SSE. With 20,000 people served to date and a variation of tours on offer (corporate, birthdays, and food tours just to name a few), we are proud of the many milestones SSE has achieved on its short journey.
What is SSE’s brand philosophy? SSE is about reclaiming Pakistan one city at a time, by becoming the one-stop solution for domestic tourism. We want to revive the rich culture, history, heritage and architecture that we are surrounded by. What is the key role that SSE aims to play in boosting the tourism industry of Pakistan? What makes SSE so unique? SSE does not stand for truck art, or one particular location. It stands for Pakistan. It’s about taking ownership of everything that is Pakistani and converting any negative energy about our cities and culture by bringing them back into a positive light.
Do you have any educational background or experience in the industry? With the family business having
been in the travel industry, I’ve been influenced by it all my life. I have an immense passion for travelling and in identifying such huge potential in the domestic travel industry, we want to offer an authentic experience with quality service, to discover and appreciate the abundance of treasures available in every nook and cranny of our country.
What have been the key successes that SSE has experienced to date? Too many to count! One that really hit home was a lady who sent over a bouquet of flowers after the tour thanking us for allowing her kids the opportunity to experience parts of the city where her husband and herself had met; something they had been wanting to but had never gotten the chance to till SSE. Another moment was when a group of elderly ladies who had come for the tour decided to run it for us, sharing their passion and

success but its longevity, as well as opening new avenues; a vital one being where we mobilized the youth (which comprises of 70% of our population) to become tour operators, where they shared their knowledge of their cities with others. Any challenges that you learned from? The lack of infrastructure in the tourism industry can be a challenge, as well as gaining acceptability amongst the locals and institutions; however, we consider these issues to be miniscule. It will not stop us from overcoming the psyche of society as we keep pushing our message of positivity, through our various services being provided under the SSE umbrella.
Our latest milestone that we’re very proud to share is our collaboration with Dawat PK to become the first ones ever to offer a destination wedding concierge service, which is something we’re very excited about.
What is one of your favourite moments since you launched SSE? Hands down my first ever tour! The fact that a ‘burger bacha’ armed with nothing but a few facts, was able to convince 25 people to show up and tour around Karachi on a mini bus is something I value immensely. What is the mission for SSE in the coming years? To become a one-stop solution for domestic tours
in the country. With a myriad of services already on offer such as birthdays, food, village and corporate tours (amongst others!), we are looking to include information for accommodation as well so as to offer ease of convenience to our customers, wherever they decide to go in Pakistan.
Anything new and exciting for us to watch out for? Our latest milestone that we’re very proud to share is our collaboration with Dawat PK to become the first ones ever to offer a destination wedding concierge service, which is something we’re very excited about. Also keep your eyes peeled for tour services that will be stretching from interior Sindh all the way to the mountains of Kashmir and KPK. With the tourism industry shifting back into the lime light we are also looking forward to participating in the infrastructure of the industry itself with tourism related installations such as cable cars!
