1. How did Esfir get its name? Our aesthetic is “east meets west”, so we wanted a name that embodied that fusion. In Persian, Esfir means “star-like” , which we thought was the perfect fit for our brand because we want everyone that wears our jewelry to feel like a star.
weekend | FASHion 2. Did the brand bring about your friendship or vice versa? Neither! It was our mutual, unhealthy obsession with jewellery that brought about the brand. We’ve been friends and co workers way before Esfir started, so it’s more of an offshoot of our friendship rather than a result of it.
4. Do your collections always have a theme? who/what inspires the themes?
We draw inspiration from practically everything that surrounds us. A local artist’s (Fatima Nadeem) “freedom” painting sparked the idea for our birdcage earrings.. Our recent “ever after” collection stems from traditional fairy tales. It could be literature, art or even a concept that sparks our creativity.

3. Are the designs all decided and done by you from inception to completion? Yes! It usually starts with a 3 am brainwave that is penned down and revised till we come up with something that we’re both proud of.

Urban Decay is one of the leading brands when it comes to fantastic product launches—they’re out of the box and always give consumers something to look forward to and from what we hear, come spring time, there is plenty the brand will be surprising us with. The brand recently released their winning All Nighter foundation and following the ‘from dusk ’til dawn’ theme the brand is coming out with products that will prep your face for makeup that ensure longevity and help it stay in place. We can look forward to two prep priming sprays, four complexion primers and three setting sprays. That’s quite a prep and prime range if you ask us! We’re really looking forward to trying out the Optical Illusion Complexion Primer that covers fine lines, reduces pore size and delivers that soft-focused effect with makeup. The whole collection includes a B6 Priming Spray, Quick Fix Prep Priming Spray, De-Slick Complexion Primer, Self-Adjusting Complexion Primer, Urban Defense Complexion Primer, the aforementioned Optical Illusion Complexion Primer, All-Nighter Setting Spray, DeSlick Makeup Setting Spray and the Chill Setting Spray. Phew, that’s an exhaustive list of skincare products that sound pretty amazing.

Technically this collection came out this month but we here in Pakistan probably won’t see it till at least spring time next year. Individually both brands are cult beauty brands and when news of their collaboration broke in the summer, beauty enthusiasts got real excited and we can totally see why. The collaboration seems pretty epic— it includes The Ultimate Eye Collection which consists of two separate palettes— one from Too Faced and one from Kat Von D that stick together magnetically. Doesn’t that sound awesome? Each palette includes six new eyeshadows from each brand so it’s nothing like you’ve seen before. The Ultimate Eye Collection also includes the KVD Liquid Tattoo liner and the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara which are both cult products from the two brands. If you want to forego the palette then there is The Best Selling Eye Duo that will have the Better Than Sex mascara AND the KVD Tattoo liner. And if that wasn’t enough there’s a Cheek and Lip Double-Sided Makeup Bag that will stock a best-selling blush and lipstick from each brand and a makeup bag. We’d be more than happy t o get our hands on any of the products!

Too Faced has been killing it with each of its product releases and very recently the highly anticipated Sweet Peach Collection came on the market. The brand has previously released chocolate-scented palettes, coconut water-infused primers and so much more. This new collection is based on the peachy eye shadow palette and is scented AND infused with the fuzzy fruit. Will everything be smelling peachy? You bet it will. The collection includes a Sweet Peach Glow Palette that is a highlighting palette and from what we’ve seen from the swatches so far, we will definitely be wanting this. There’s a peachy (of course) Papa Don’t Peach Blush (oh the brand’s tongue in cheek humour is why we’re broke), eight Creamy Lip Oil gloss hybrids that are mega-pigmented, moisturising and shiny and everything our inner thirteen year old would die over. The lip oils come in a lovely range of nudes, corals, orange and a red and then of course, there is the eyeshadow palette that has eighteen shades: a combination of shimmers and mattes. We’d get it just so we could smell peachy all day! Staying on the food inspired wagon, Too Faced will also be releasing a Peanut Butter Honey palette after releasing the very popular Peanut Butter and Jelly Eye Shadow Collection earlier in 2016. It wasn’t going to be long before this drugstore brand got on the liquid lipstick bandwagon. The L’Oréal Paris Infallible Lip Paint has a whopping 14 shade range—intensely bold hues, including a navy blue and teal. If there was one bold ip colour that ruled 2016 it was the colour blue and with 2017 hours away, even affordable drugstore brands are jumping on that blue train and we ain’t mad. Shaped like a squeezing tube but with a doe foot applicator, these lip paints should be a dream to apply. The formulas are raspberry-scented swiping on like a thick gloss that is packed with pigment and non-sticky too!

Review By HAFSA USMANI “Fahrenheit 451”, what does the title portray? A certain temperature, yes, because this is the temperature at which book paper catches fire, and meets its death. Burning books is the main theme of the book. It is the kind of book which is written once in ages. It sails along side Orwell’s 1984 and Huxley’s Brave New World and sheds light on the weaknesses of Western Civilization and how it has been tyrannized by media, drugs and traditionalism. It is a classic science fiction, postliterature future, and it very bewitchingly describes the human nature that how human beings suppress and drown the things which are beyond their understanding. who is a fireman, he is socio-politically responsible to burn any and every book he founds anywhere, which are illicit and are a source of discontentment and unhappiness. He always smells like kerosene and kerosene has become his perfume. In the whirl of events a new neighbor moves in. And that is when his life takes a U-turn. Clarisse McLellan is 17 and is very typical of her age. She does not care about how the society perceives her or how it wants her or behave and think. He talks to her and finds her strange, her question “Have you ever read any of the books you burn?” leaves him awestruck with unease. He starts questioning the things he once considered social norms and a necessity. His wife states that he is acting strangely and his boss too notices his oddness. Montag, now, is hiding something else than questions: a book. The fire department now must go over to his house and interrogate him, and this might cost him his life. As the fire department does not approve of all the people who try to defy them and are more than willing to put an end to those who want to preserve books and read them. I would like to conclude it by saying that burning books might seem disturbing at time, but it sheds light on our lives and the world we are living in, whatever we can’t comprehend or beyond our understanding we mark it forbidden and bad for us. We are influenced by so many wrong things and they have taken over our lives. Maybe we need to re-consider our lifestyles, thinking and find a new way back home.
