In the highly contested bid to become Westchester’s next village president, Greg Hribal, a write-in candidate and former village manager, has come out on top, after the Cook County Clerk’s office announced the unofficial results of write-in votes on April 14. Hribal obtained 939 votes, 254 more than ballot leading candidate Kevin McDermott who had 685 votes as of April 14. Based on Cook County Clerk data analyzed by the Village Free Press, 51 ballots remain to be counted, a number certain not to change the outcome of the race. “I’m overwhelmed by the support that I received, those who voted for me did something completely different than they normally do going through the write-in process,” Hribal said. Hribal intends on taking office soon after the Cook County Clerk certifies the official election results on April 25. He said most of the other candidates in the race have called to congratulate him on his victory, adding he would welcome their input once he takes office. “I am hitting the ground running.
