Manager confirms Greifer submitted resignation June 28 By BOB UPHUES Editor
Brookfield’s community and economic development director, Nicholas Greifer, has resigned and no longer works for the village. Village Manager Timothy Wiberg confirmed Monday that Greifer had submitted his letter of resignation on June 28. That came three days after Wiberg had placed Greifer on paid administrative leave. Greifer attended the village board’s meeting on June 24, giving a report on the progress of amending the maps for the Eight Corners NICHOLAS GREIFER Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District and the proposed Grand Boulevard TIF. The circumstances surrounding Greifer’s departure remain unclear. Wiberg declined to comment further on the move Monday. Reached on his cellphone last week, Greifer declined to talk about the matter and directed inquiries to Wiberg. It remains to be seen whether Greifer and the village will negotiate a separation agreement, which is common when municipal employees are forced out of their positions. The last employee to go on administrative leave prior to departing was Theresa Coady, whose job was eliminated this past spring to make way for Wiberg to hire an assis-

D96 wants Central/Hauser campus plan D96 seeks recommendations for rear parking/play area By BOB UPHUES Editor

As Riverside School District 96 closes in on final plans for improvements to its elementary school buildings, a parallel exercise will begin to develop plans to improve the rear outdoor area of the Central School/ Hauser Junior High campus to better separate parking and play areas and manage internal traffic patterns.
On June 26, the District 96 Board of Education voted unanimously to hire The Lakota Group and Gewalt Hamilton Design to prepare a comprehensive campus plan at Central/Hauser. The three-phase process likely will begin in the fall and take months. It See CAMPUS on page 12

Property tax appeal seminar
Cook County Board of review Commissioner Dan Patlak will hold a property tax assessment appeal seminar on Wednesday, July 10 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of the Riverside Township Hall, 27 Riverside Road in Riverside, for taxpayers seeking to appeal their 2019 property tax assessments. Riverside Township is open for appeal until July 30. The hour-long session will educate taxpayers on how to file a successful tax appeal, provide information on property tax exemptions and address why property taxes may increase even if you receive a reduction in your assessment. Taxpayers will also have an opportunity to work with staff from the Board of review to address their specific questions and concerns. The event is free to attend and there is no fee to appeal your assessment.

Farmers Markets in both Brookfield and Riverside are in peak summer form, with plenty of locally sourced fresh produce, readyto-eat items, meat, fish, eggs, honey, baked goods, artisan products and more. Bulldogs win Lisle Summer League Loftus, JnoBaptiste, Hines, Leon led RBHS during offseason

iverside-Brookfield High School girls basketball coach Dallas Till already has a good sense of the Bulldogs’ potential for next season. Nevertheless, the summer basketball season serves as another barometer to further measure the team’s development. The fact RBHS racked up plenty of victories en route to becoming champions of the Lisle Summer League is a bonus. “Winning the Lisle Summer League was a nice way to finish off the summer,” Till said. “The league consists of eight or nine teams, which all play each other over an 11game schedule. Our only loss in pool play occurred against Aurora Christian, so we earned the second seed for the playoffs. In the championship game, we got some retribution by beating Aurora Christian.” Although Till was proud of the Bulldogs’ tourney title, the summer hoops schedule is viewed differently from the SARAH JNOBAPTISTE four-month grind of RBHS senior the regular season. “First of all, I just want the girls to have fun and get to know each other on the court during the summer,” Till said. “Since we lost some seniors, summer obviously offers a great opportunity to see how our newcomers adjust from the sophomore level to varsity basketball. I can evaluate each player and also figure out what are going to be the best kinds of offense and defense we want to run for next season.” Although some minor roster questions remain, the projected starting lineup is coming into focus. Returning wing players Brenna Loftus and Sarah JnoBaptiste have two spots locked up on a team that won 20 games and the Metro Suburban Conference last season. “We already know what Brenna and Sarah can do,” Till said. “They have started multiple years on the varsity and contribute so much to our team.” Loftus was MVP of the Metro Suburban Conference, while JnoBaptiste garnered allconference recognition last season. “The team’s progress last season and this summer has been positive,” JnoBaptiste
