Circle Lanes, a mainstay that remains a family favorite
How long has Circle Lanes been around and how does it stay relevant? This is almost our 80th year. We stay alive be being the dinosaur that we are. Lots of other lanes are closing, but we’re small enough to keep our lanes and keep thriving. We do improvements every summer like the roof or heat and air conditioning, but we also keep it retro. Our busiest season is October through March due to the winter weather. We have our two weeks at Christmas when we’re completely slammed. The cold and snow keeps them coming in. The only days we’re closed are Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving. Forestparkreview.com

Circle Lanes recently suffered the loss of long-time manager Bonnie Stutz. What did Bonnie mean to Circle Lanes? We lost Zig, her husband almost four years ago. They’d owned the business since the mid-1980s. Bonnie’s death was so sudden. She went into the hospital on Memorial Day and never came out. This is Bonnie’s legacy. Her son and daughters are the sole owners now, and her grandson Drew is very involved. After so long as a mainstay in the village, have there been any changes or any new technologies that have changed the way people bowl? Not really. Everything is pretty much the same. In the 1980s we used to have a lot of leagues. Now we’re down to 10 to 20. We have lots of single day bowlers and open bowlers. How long have you been at Circle Lanes? I’ve been here since 1988. I kept leaving to do something else, but kept coming back. I’ve been here every day for 10 years. It was hard when Bonnie passed. They are like a second family to me. We have a good, motivated staff here. They are really friendly and good
with customers, which keeps people coming back. Who comes to Circle Lanes to bowl? We take care of everybody. We have kids, adults, people with special needs. We host birthday parties. We’ve had a couple of weddings. Maybe they grew up bowling here or they met here. They really dressed this place up. The transformation was amazing. One couple got married in Oak Park and walked down the street with 75 guests to have their reception here. We have our regular bowling leagues, and teams from Trinity and Fenwick practice here.

ince 1941, Circle Lanes has been a mainstay on Circle Avenue in Forest Park. The local bowling alley has been a community favorite for decades. A family-run enterprise, the business updates just enough to keep up with the times, but not so much that it loses that timeless quality that makes it a favorite for families, bowling leagues and bowlers throughout the western suburbs. Manager Marty Considine answers some questions about the small business.

Why has Forest Park been a good home for the Circle Lanes? We’re just a part of Forest Park. At one point, this was considered the tallest building in Forest Park, when they measured from the top of the sign. The sign has been landmarked, so we can’t replace it. We’re off the beaten path, but we’re in the middle of the community, so people do find us. It’s a small, intimate place. We’re very family-friendly and very reasonable on price. Lacey Sikora

St. Bernardine Church The St. Bernardine congregation, founded in 1911, laid the cornerstone at the Spanish Mission style church at Harrison St. and Elgin Ave in 1939. Construction started in the last months of Cardinal George g Mundelein’s life, who’s coat of arms can be found on the church, with the motto “Dominus adjutor meus,” (The Lord Is My Help).
3. Concordia 3 Cemetery C Beautiful gothic arches and arc ornamental gateways ornam with high wrought iron entrance to Forest mark the ent cemetery. The Park’s oldest ce hand-forged, 3,000 lb iron gates circular space of are set back in the circ gate, like outthe entrance, where the g stretched wings, open and cclose. Their pivot set in the weight is set at a needle-like piv road and designed with perfect balance to enable the opening and closing in any weather. 4. Jens J. Jensen Mixed use plans for storefront and apartments were designed by architect Jens J. Jenson in 1925. Plans included two shops on Beloit Ave., three shops on Madison St., second floor office suites, and twenty -five apartments ranging from one room to four room flats. This red brick with white glaze accents is notable in other works by Jenson, including the Astoria Hotel and Hotel Guyon in Chicago. 5. Forest Park Packing House Tony Scafidi was the proprietor of the newly erected Spanish terra-cotta building known as the Forest Park Packing House that opened in 1929. The store had the most modern refrigeration, was known to have the finest meats and Tony’s “usual smile.” When the new store opened, half the store was dedicated to fruits and vegetables and was run by Joseph Castanzero. 6. Roosevelt Trust and Savings Bank This southside Bank was located at Roosevelt Rd and Elgin, opened in 1926 under the direction of

3 several prominent locals including Henry J. Mohr (President H.J. Mohr & Sons Co), Alert Roos (President of Forest Park State Bank, Salvatore Sansone (builder), Peter Troost (Monuments) and Realtors Joseph Bristow, Jr. and Theodore Lobstein. Although initially prosperous, it closed its doors, as did many banks during the depression. It did pay all its depositors and losses from stockholders. 7. Shanks Hall This relief adorning the Queen Anne on the corner of Harlem Ave. and Madison St. has been a fixture since the 1898 days of Harlem. It has been known as Schanks Hall, Harlem Castle and Hughes Hall among other names. Nic Shank built it for $30,000 (including the land) as a saloon and restaurant and later, reporting it to be too large, he sold it and worked in what is present day O’Sullivans and then erected a new saloon across Madison. 8. Ram The grand Victorian building tucked away at Van Buren and Madison opened in 1885. The Altenheim-German Old Peoples Home, features a circular courtyard with this ornate planter with two rams on either end. Rams often are symbols of sacrifice and protection of the herd. 9. Elsie In the early 1960’s Ferrara Pan Candy Factory moved into the former Borden Dairy factory. Elsie, the Borden Dairy mascot from the 1930’s, has several motifs around the building which watch over the factory and Eisenhower Expressway.

ounded in 1930, Kagan and Gaines has called Forest Park home since 1982. Offering sales, rentals, repairs and lessons in musical instruments, Kagan and Gaines is a complete music store for musical instruments and accessories. The store also offers student band and orchestra rentals, as well as rental of professional instruments, and teaches lessons in its eight studios. Secondgeneration owner Joe Cali grew up with the business and took it over from his dad in the late 1990s.
What is the story of the founding of Kagan & Gaines? Robert Kagan was the original founder back in the 1930s. He was a violinist teaching violin in Chicago. He was trying to get new strings for his students and thought the pricing was too high. He decided he could import them himself and opened a store at 228 S. Wabash. In 1942, my father, Joseph Cali Sr., started working for Kagan as a 16-yearold high school kid. Eventually, he moved up, and he bought the business in the ’60s. In 1982 they closed the Wabash location and moved the store to Forest Park. I took over the business in the late 1990s. Neither Cali plays an instrument. We are the business people, but everybody that works here is a musician except for me. What kinds of services does Kagan & Gaines offer? We have four categories. We do sales of musical instruments, accessories and books, rentals to school kids and to professional musicians who may be travelling through town. For repairs of instruments we have in-house luthiers who work with orchestral instruments and bows, and we have subcontractors for guitars, band and electronic instruments. We have about eight teaching

studios here. Most of the lessons are private, but we also offer Suzuki classes and jazz and blues ensembles. We do a lot of the rentals for Oak Park schools. Their recruitment night takes place over two days. Kids in fourth or fifth grade can try different instruments. We go into the schools and bring about forty instruments in different sizes. We set up in four different rooms with their teachers. Kids can try a band and an orchestra instrument. We’re in the cafeteria so they and their parents can talk to us about their choice or ask us any questions. Once they choose, we have about a week before lessons start to get all the instruments out. What kinds of things does Kagan & Gaines sell? We sell band and orchestra instruments,

drums, guitars and all the accessories: the reeds and strings. We sell keyboards too. Two years ago, the piano business next door moved out, so we expanded and now carry electronic keyboards. Who makes up your staff? We have about 10 employees on payroll. Everybody has some musical talent. We also have about 12 teachers who are subcontractors. We’re a small business. I still work Sundays and nights if I have to.
Why is Forest Park a good place to locate a business? It’s a very easy access location. It’s right off the Eisenhower. Pro musicians in downtown hotels can get here easily. It’s 30 minutes to O’Hare and 30 minutes to Midway. It’s a good central location. Lacey Sikora Forestparkreview.com

reg Stinton recently opened his first restaurant, Small Batch Barbecue on Madison Street in Forest Park. While he may be new to the restaurant world, the former resident of the corporate world has been honing his barbecue recipe for years. When he finally was ready to try them on an audience outside of his backyard, he took home first prize in the 2016 Forest Park Ribfest. The rest is history as he brings his home-cooked proteins to a village that is ready to line up until the ribs sell out. What is the story of the start of Small Batch Barbecue? The business took shape when we competed in and won Forest Park Ribfest in 2016. It was a complete shock. I’ve been passionate about barbecuing for about 15 years. My wife and I moved out to Forest Park and cooked for people in our backyard all the time. People always said, “You should try to enter Ribfest with these.” We won the first year I competed. I was completely unprepared for what that would mean. We entered again in 2017. I didn’t place, but had a consistent line of people wanting to buy ribs. The line just got longer and longer. The demand was still there. It had moved into something to do for fun to something I could do professionally. I had worked in the corporate world in IT for about 10 years, and it was time to start something different and take a gamble. I’m still young. If I didn’t do it now, when would I?
From Ribfest to restaurant: Small Batch Barbecue When did you first get interested in barbecue? How did you learn? It goes back over 20 years. I was the world’s pickiest eater growing up, and my mom would make something special for me. In high school, I was just starting to come out of that phase, and we were on vacation with some family friends, one of whom was from Memphis. He cooked his dry-rub ribs for us. I loved it. I was fortunate enough that he shared his recipe with me, and I went home and started trying to make ribs myself. As I got older, I started trying other meats. In my career in IT, I travelled a lot and got to try a lot of different kinds of barbecue and different styles. It allowed me to do

my own comparison and see what I liked while working on my own craft. When did you decide to open a restaurant? Initially, I was putting together a business plan for a food truck. It has lower startup costs and more flexibility. It was great in theory, but fraught with challenges in the Chicago\-land area. There are really only six months of the year that you are really busy due to the weather. As it was clear I was going to leave my career to do this, I started looking around. My wife and I love Forest Park, and we began looking for a good place here and found the right spot. We officially opened July 6, 2019. What kinds of foods do
you serve? We have a pretty simple menu intentionally. It’s a small space – under 1,000 square feet. On our regular menu, we have proteins: ribs, brisket, pulled pork, hot links and we recently added smoked turkey. We have five sides: Cole slaw, mac & cheese, baked beans, fried okra and hush puppies. We do rotating daily specials too. Day-in-day-out, the brisket and the ribs are the most popular. They sell out the quickest. Who’s working at Small Batch? It’s primarily me. I wear a lot of hats, but my most important title is pit master. When the meat is cooking, I’m on duty. cAdam Landscaping is celebrating its 40th year in the landscape business, and the family-owned business has called Forest Park home for more than 35 years. President Scott McAdam started the business while in college, and it has always been a family affair. His brother Rob is his long-term partner in the small business, and son Scott and his daughter Jennifer are the second and third generation to join in the landscaping field. What is the story of the beginning of McAdam landscaping? I was 21 years old and in college in 1979. My degree was in horticulture with an emphasis in landscape design, and I decided to try to start a business before I graduated. I had been cutting grass for summers for 10 years, so I started in the maintenance side of things. My brother and I worked together out of our parents’ basement for the first year. We later moved to 218 Lake St. in Oak Park. In 1983, we needed more space, so we moved to a location on Forestparkreview.com

Franklin in Forest Park. We moved to our current location in Forest Park in 2002. This year marks an important anniversary for McAdam. What did you do to mark your 40th anniversary? We decided to make it an employeefocused celebration. In August, we had a company picnic for our employees and their families at Brookfield Zoo. We recognized employees who had been

MCADAMS CONTINUED FROM PAGE 29 water features. We are designers, and I’m a landscape architect, so we can do the design and implementation of plans. We work with residential clients and also with commercial projects from businesses, schools, municipalities, HOAs and libraries. Our clients run the gamut. I had the school knowledge of horticulture going into this, but I didn’t have the business or industry knowledge when I started. I got involved with the Illinois Land Improvement Contractors in the 1980s. I was president in the 1990s and my son is geared up to do that in two years. It helps us keep a finger on the pulse of the latest in the landscape area. We are able to be environmentally conscious with recycling and compost on our projects After 40 years in the business, you must have a lot of wonderful customer connections. Are there any recent projects that you are particularly proud of? We recently worked on a project at Morton West High School in which we put in three outdoor classrooms. That was a great project. We also created what is called the Red, Red Rose Garden at Caledonia House. It’s very frequently visited by the patients at the Scottish Home. It’s one of my favorite projects because we know it has an impact on the seniors. They are the oldest not-for-profit in the state, and to be able to partner with them has been really good. We’re grateful for the opportunity. What is your staff like? During the summer season, we have about 85 employees. We have a lot of long-term employees. One
of our employees has been here 32 years. Some of our recent retirees have been here 35 and 38 years. Besides myself, we have three other designers. My son is in business development and also has a horticulture degree. He writes the Ask the Plant Expert column. Our buyer also has a background in horticulture, and many people in our garden center have also taken classes. We are one of the only local companies with this knowledge. It helps us answer questions in efficient and honest ways. Why has Forest Park been a good home for McAdam Landscaping? It’s the partnership. When we moved here initially, we just wanted more land. The Franklin location was five to six times as large as our Oak Park location, and the taxes were only twice as much. When we outgrew that site, we talked to Tony [Calderone, mayor at the time.] He thought he could find a place for us in town. The cemetery had land they were using for soil dumping that we were able to buy. We got the four acres, and the village worked really well for us. We wanted to be able to stay in town, and we needed the space. We love this location. Forest Park has always been willing to help and give us advice, and we try to give back. We host the annual Chamber meeting. We give back to the community because it’s the right thing to do. We’re blessed by the community, and we want to return that anyway we can. olden Steer Steakhouse is celebrating 50 years of bringing great food to the community. Since 1969, the restaurant has been providing steaks, chops, ribs, and seafood to a loyal clientele. Purchased in 1997 by the Tzouras family, manager Tom Tzouras reflects on the longevity of the community favorite.
The whole Chicagoland area came to see the place that was a hidden gem for the locals become a sensation. A few years later, on May 2012, the Steer was featured on WGN’s “Chicago’s Best.” A new wave of food lovers found their way to discover the famous baked French onion soup and the best steaks in the west suburbs.
What is the story of the start of the Golden Steer? Since 1969, Golden Steer Steakhouse has been a hot spot for great steaks, chops, ribs, seafood, and world-famous French onion soup. Golden Steer Steakhouse was opened by John Vlahos in 1969. John was later joined by his brother Taki. Taki bought the restaurant from his brother in 1979 and ran the business until 1997. In 1997, two cousins, Kiriakos A. Tzouras and Kiriakos P. Tzouras, better known to everyone in Forest Park as “Little Charlie” and “Big Charlie,” bought the business from Taki. In their 22 years of ownership, many things have changed, but the Golden Steer stays the same. In January 2010, the restaurant became a Chicagoland phenomenon when it was featured on “Check, Please!” on WTTW Channel 11.
This year marks an important anniversary for the Golden Steer. What does it feel like to mark your 50th anniversary? Are there any special celebrations planned? It is a rare thing for a restaurant nowadays to be in business for 50 years. In a non-stop, competitive market which is dominated by corporate restaurants, it is remarkable for a small, independent restaurant to be in business this long. It is a testament to our customers, who have become members of our family, that they have found a home away from home. We celebrated our 50th anniversary with our customers, family, friends, and vendors on Sept. 9. We have regular specials throughout the year to celebrate such as 50-percent off our wine list bottles on Mondays and Thursdays. We also have different food

specials, which we advertise on social media each week.
Beyond the obvious steak, what are some of the foods that your customers keep coming back for? Well, first and foremost, they come for the baked French onion soup. That has been a staple since our doors opened. Besides steak, they come for our seafood and chicken dishes. People rave about our baked Shrimp De Jonghe and our baked clams. We also have delicious homemade desserts like tiramisu and chocolate mousse. After 50 years in the business, are there any special customers who are regulars who make it all worthwhile? The list of special customers is endless. Most of them are gone but there is always a supply of new characters to fill their void. Many customers have commented on how the Steer is like the TV show “Cheers”; it’s a place where everybody knows your name. Our customers make the Golden Steer what it is. Senior Bingo and Lunch Ten games of bingo and lunch are offered to senior citizens for a small fee monthly, the 4th Thursday of the month. Call the center for dates, reservations, and to arrange transportation.
Senior Citizens Club Meets Tues. 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Community Center. Offers social activities for seniors, including arts and crafts, card and board games, visiting with old friends and making new ones. State of Illinois Mobile Drivers Service Offered periodically at the center, this service issues state IDs, renews driver licenses needing eye and/or written tests only, for individuals who are within a year of expiration. Also changes information such as new address. Issues license plate renewal stickers (must have renewal form.) Road testing is not available. Current fees apply. The program is open to anyone younger than 75. Those older than 75 must go to a secretary of state facility.

Learning Through All Aspects of Life at Keystone Montessori hildren come from far and wide to Keystone Montessori, a school that has gained the reputation as one of the country’s premier Montessori schools. “The beauty of Montessori education is that it takes into consideration the whole child,” says Vicki Shea, Keystone’s administrative coordinator. “The physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of children are nurtured as well as their academic development and each child is respected as an individual with unique abilities.”

Keystone has a class for two-year olds, primary classes for 3-6 year olds, junior elementary classes for 6-9 year olds, senior elementary classes for 9-12 year olds and a middle school. There are parent/infant classes also. One of the hallmarks of Montessori education is grouping together children of different ages. “In this way children learn from each other,” says Shea. “It also helps the older children learn a sense of responsibility toward the younger ones.” Children learn by working with specially designed ‘materials’ in an age-appropriate environment which stimulates the senses and encourages exploration. The children are busy, each one involved in doing something either individually or in small groups. In one of the primary classrooms a three-year old is mopping the floor, and a fiveyear old is counting with a bead chain. In the junior elementary classroom a student is researching snakes and in another part of the room, a group of students is analyzing the grammatical parts of a sentence with the teacher. The school is proud of its consistently high academic achievement but places great emphasis on helping children become well-rounded, responsible members of society.

New mayor looks forward to the future
Tell me about your roots in Forest Park. We moved to Forest Park to rent an apartment at 529 Thomas in 1999. We bought our present home here in 2006. Monique and I raised two kids here, and are still raising two more in town. How long have you been involved in local government, and in what roles have you served? I was first elected village commissioner in 2007. I served as a village commissioner from 2007-2015. Before that, I had been appointed to the Traffic and Safety Commission in 2006. What sparked your run for mayor of Forest Park? Several neighbors suggested that I run for Mayor. Some of our friends who I’ve come to know over the last 12 years were aware that I previously worked in state government. I suppose that they anticipated that if I were mayor, some of my existing relationships could be leveraged for the village’s benefit. What are some of your long-term goals for the village as mayor? As mayor, I intend to engage more residents in the affairs of the village. This will be done without sacrificing safety or the efficient delivery of services. Engaging residents includes emphasizing diversity. By 2022, I expect that the advisory boards and commissions will include more appointees from minority groups. I also intend to increase the profile of the Diversity Commission by seeking Forestparkreview.com

that group’s input with respect to village sponsored events and other celebrations. Diversity also includes gender. Many residents would like to see women assume more leadership roles in our village. Our police department only has five female officers. I hope that more women can join the ranks of the Forest Park Police Department and the Forest Park Fire Department. Do you have any short-term changes that you think you can make shortly upon taking office that will have an impact on the lives of residents? An immediate goal is to enhance the village’s relationship with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). If we can persuade the CTA to better police its grounds, it might improve some of our residents’ quality of life. Persuading CTA to improve clean up and maintenance of CTA grounds is a short-term goal. Two additional short-term goals
include celebrating the village’s rich diversity and drawing from our very talented pool of residents for the purpose of engaging residents by making considered appointments to some of our advisory boards and commissions. In June, Forest Park’s Diversity Commission hosted our first ever Pride Celebration in Constitution Court. Recently, an ad hoc committee was formed for the purpose of producing the village’s first ever Hispanic Heritage Month event. The Hispanic Heritage celebration is was held in Constitution Court on Oct. 5. Many of the recent appointments to the village’s advisory boards and commissions reflect a goal of bringing more racial and gender diversity to our advisory boards. A working mother was appointed to chair the Police and Fire Commission, and another woman was named chair the Diversity Commission. Lacey Sikora

Skate Park 366-7500 (Park District) The skate park is unsupervised, though the park district recommends the use of helmets, elbow pads and knee pads. All ages and all ability levels are served in these therapeutic recreational activities. Many programs are similar to traditional park district classes, such as the association’s swim lessons, fitness classes and day camp. At these programs, a recreation specialist will adjust how skills are taught, how much personal assistance will be given and if any equipment accommodation is needed. Behavior management plans and other tools are used. Some programs require one-on-one staffing for a participant to be successful. Others are designed so that the competition is at a fair level, as in Special Olympics. Getting to know Malike Ayouba
MALIKE AYOUBA, OWNER OF INDUCTOR OF HEALING, OUTSIDE OF HIS NEW STOREFRONT ON MADISON STREET IN DOWNTOWN FOREST PARK.
I
nductor of Healing Wellness Center opened in Forest Park in July 2019, and owner and massage therapist Malike Ayouba says the center is the place to meet a variety of wellness needs. Practitioners focus on well-being and concentrate on promoting the body’s natural self-healing process. With massage therapies and bodywork for children, adults and seniors, Inductor of Healing’s holistic approach focuses on promoting the body’s natural self-healing abilities by customizing a plan for each client’s individual body type. Inductor of Healing offers massage, therapeutic/restorative yoga and strengthening exercises to help your body heal and prevent further injury. What is the story of the founding of Inductor of Healing Wellness Center? I worked for a chiropractor for three years, and during that time, I noticed that massage therapies really worked. The idea came to me to create a holistic approach using massage techniques. We should not forget that the body works as a whole. I like to better people’s Forestparkreview.com

lives through massage, so in 2014, I started my business as a mobile business. After working at a spa in Oak Park, and expanding my clientele, I wanted to hire staff with the same goals. I needed a bigger space, and we moved into Forest Park in July. What kind of work do you do at Inductor of Healing Wellness Center? We do chiropractic care, acupuncture and massage therapy. You can also work on strengthening, body balancing and see a nutritionist. In the future, we will also offer yoga and a smoothie bar. I want to treat people physically and mentally – the whole person.
You are originally from Togo. What brought you to the western suburbs of Chicago? Coming here was not on my agenda. After graduating from high school, my father passed, and I knew I must do something to help support my siblings and help them finish their education. I planned to go to France, but I got a visa to come here. I essentially won the lottery, and I told myself I had to go for it because that was my path. Seeing people smile, seeing people get better, seeing people be able to go to work, that shows me that I chose the right path.
Are there others on your staff who take part in the business? An acupuncturist and chiropractor are available for appointments, and I am the primary massage therapist. My wife, Aerie, is also involved in the business in social media and marketing and Dr. Lolita Cleveland has also worked with us on business development and strategy. They have been here since day one.
Having recently relocated your business from Oak Park to Forest Park, why is Forest Park a good place to own and operate a small business? The community is just discovering us since we opened in July, but it is a good place to have a business. We are happy to have a dedicated space to serving our clients. Lacey Sikora

bout six years ago, Susane Molina was working as an attorney in a window-less office in Brazil. Her desk faced a wall. She shared the same room with several other lawyers. When a visitor walked in and commented on the depressing work environment — calling it “bad feng shui” — Molina agreed with the sentiment but had no idea what feng shui (pronounced fung shway) was. She decided to research the ancient Chinese art. Now she credits the practice with changing her life. “I can testify to you that it makes my life easier because I have control over my space, I find everything right away when I need it, and my space has harmonized.” After moving to the U.S. to be with her American husband three years ago — she lived initially in Oak Park, now in Forest Park — Molina decided that, rather than try to be re-licensed as an attorney, she would start a new business involving something she is passionate about. And that something was feng shui — a Chinese practice developed more than 3,000 years ago that aims to optimize the energy flow of a space by balancing the five elements — water, fire,

It’s all about people putting the best of ourselves in that space.” She started My Life, My Space, an online and in-person organization and feng shui consultancy. Because she never studied business, she spent the first few years acclimating to U.S. culture and learning how to be an entrepreneur. But then organizational evangelist Marie Kondo — author and TV personality best known for her book, The LifeChanging Magic of Tidying Up — hit the scene, and suddenly everyone was interested in, at least, organization. Molina has since feng shui’d and organized the Oak Park-River Forest Chamber of Commerce, a school in

Brazil, an organic produce store, several area homes and more. She believes it is most important for clients’ homes to adhere to the principles of feng shui, since the home’s form is essential for achieving clients’ intention. As an example, she named a single person who wants a partner but “this person doesn’t have space to have a partner.” “This person doesn’t have a couch to sit on or dining table to bring a partner to his or her home,” Molina said. “So that’s when we would feng shui and say, ‘OK, let’s make room for what you want in your life and work on that.” She starts by visiting clients’ homes and helping them organize their space, since if an area is too cluttered there is no room for energy flow. Molina said she goes through drawers, asks them about their routine, talks to them about what might be bothering them about a space, asks what their needs are for the room, etc. She then helps customers Forestparkreview.com

“detach” from their possessions, evaluating items they need and want, and helping them sort those others that might belong better in another home. “I’ve had clients who lost people and have this grief moment. For some people, it takes three to six months. For others it takes one year,” Molina said. “ So it’s a challenge at this point and I think the most important thing is, they need to know that things happen at their own time. “I don’t judge my clients,” she noted, “and I try to show them all the time, it doesn’t matter why or how much they own. I’m not going to judge and nobody should.” After clients have chosen which items to keep and which to toss, Molina organizes their space, a process she said takes at least four hours per room. For clients interested in feng shui, she then requires at least one additional appointment. Molina measures the direction of the room with her compass, looks for ways to balance the five elements, reflects on how the client wants to use the space, and also thinks of the surrounding environment, including outside power lines, sounds, and air. She then consults clients on how to rearrange furniture, incorporate colors and symbols to represent the elements and much more. At the end of the second session, Molina presents clients with a personalized feng shui report. She sits down with the client and explains the thought process behind every move or suggestion, so they understand each area of their space. “It doesn’t need to be harmonizing with Asian decorations,” she said. “We can do everything according to the clients’ taste, just following some rules of colors and where to place each thing.
