When a resident in Sabinillas walks into the local health centre, they don’t expect miracles just the chance to see a doctor before the pain gets unbearable. Yet, for too many, even that modesthopehasbecomealuxury.
Recent reviews on the centre’s own Google page paint a worrying picture of neglect and inefficiency. One particularly strikingcommentdescribedaresidentwhowentinwithasharp pain in their back, only to be offered an appointment a month later.Withatouchofdarkhumour, theyquippedthatthedoctor beingofferedmusthavebeen“thecoroner.”Forcedtofindcare elsewhere,thepatientdrovetoMarbellaandspent10longhours waitinginA&Ebeforefinallybeingseen.
Sadly, this story is not unique. Many locals have voiced similar frustrations weeks-long waits for appointments, a chronic shortage of doctors, and the mysterious disappearance of longserving medical professionals without explanation. The community feels abandoned and uncertain about where to turn whentheyfallill.
Andwhenemergenciesstrike, thesituationbecomesevenmore distressing. Residents report being told to head to the Costa del SolHospitalinMarbella a 45-minute drive away for urgent care. The local ambulance service is notoriously unreliable, with wait times stretching into hours. Those who can’t afford to wait often end up calling private ambulances, which can cost up to €800, payable immediately. For many families, that’s a devastatingfinancialblowontopofamedicalcrisis.

Mayor Mariano Jiménez of Manilva has been vocal about theissueandisactivelyworking to change the situation. Recognising that the current reliance on Marbella’s overstretched Costa del Sol Hospitalisunsustainable, hehas been advocating for a stronger collaboration with the new hospitalinEstepona—afacility that, at just 15 minutes away, offers a far more practical solutionforlocalresidents
However, the Estepona hospital itself is struggling. While its modern infrastructure raised hopeswhenitopened, thereality is that it lacks sufficient resources, medical staff, and equipment. In many cases, patients are redirected from EsteponarightbacktoCostadel Sol Hospital, defeating the purposeentirely.
Mayor Jiménez’s efforts include pushing regional health authorities to allocate more funding, staff, and services to the Estepona hospital. Heenvisionsapartnershipthatwould allowManilvaresidentstobeofficially attachedtoEsteponaforbothroutine care and emergencies, cutting travel times dramatically and easing the strainonbothpatientsandMarbella’s facilities.
Still, progress has been slow. Negotiations with the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) have faced bureaucratic hurdles, and while the mayor’s persistence is commendable, residents remain impatient andrightfullyso. Afterall, healthisnotaluxury;it’sabasicright.
ThepeopleofManilva,Sabinillas, andthesurroundingareashaveshownresilienceandpatiencein the face of these ongoing challenges. But their frustration is reaching a boiling point. The Spanish Tax Agency has announced a major step forward in its digital transformation strategy
Beginning January 1, 2026, all companies will be required to use invoicing software that complies with Royal Decree 1007/2023, approved on December 5, 2023 From July 1, 2026, this obligation will also extend to all other businesses and self-employed professionals
This reform seeks to modernise billing processes, combat tax fraud, and ensure greater transparency in business transactions Under the new regulations, every invoicing system must:
• Generate invoice records in a secure and standardised format
• Include a QR code on all invoices and receipts.
• Allow submission of billing records to the Tax Agency while ensuring their integrity and traceability
Failure to comply with these obligations will lead to significant financial penalties, making it essential for businesses to adapt well before the deadline.
At the centre of this reform is the VERI*FACTU system a digital infrastructure that enables invoicing software to automatically transmit billing data to the Tax Agency in real time This system also allows both businesses and their clients to verify invoices and access additional tax assistance tools
For small and medium-sized enterprises, adopting VERI*FACTU is the most practical and cost-effective approach It eliminates the need to develop complex internal systems to ensure the immutability and traceability of invoices
From January 2026, invoices created using Word, Excel, or similar tools will no longer be valid All invoices must be generated by authorized software aligned with VERI*FACTU Once validated, invoices cannot be modified any correction must be made through a new document
Firms such as Limit Consulting are already assisting clients with this transition. Their in-house platform, Quipu, fully complies with VERI*FACTU and allows users to issue invoices, manage expenses, and ensure ongoing compliance all within one integrated tool Beyond providing the right software, Limit’s team also verifies client entries to ensure they meet all legal standards, offering the assurance that accounting records remain fully compliant
Many members of the English-speaking business community in Spain already rely on Limit Consulting, appreciating both the simplicity of Quipu and the advantage of receiving expert guidance in English
Now is the time for companies to prepare The shift to digital invoicing represents a decisive move toward greater transparency, efficiency, and modernisation in Spain’s tax landscape

Where the sea meets the vineyards
Tucked between the glamour of Sotogrande and the charm of Estepona, the municipality of Manilva with its coastal heart, Sabinillas offers an authentic taste of the Costa del Sol. November paints this corner of Málaga in soft sunlight and golden calm, a season when life slows down and every moment feels more genuine.
In Sabinillas, mornings begin with the sound of waves and the smell of the sea. The promenade invites leisurely walks, coffee by the shore, and quiet reflection Locals greet one another as the fishing boats return, and the beach, though peaceful, still hums with life. It’s a beautiful reminder that this is a place where tradition and modern living meet effortlessly.
Just a few minutes inland, Manilva’s white-washed village rises above rolling hills of vineyards Famous for its sweet Muscatel grapes, the town holds deep agricultural roots that give every meal and glass of wine a story. Autumn brings a natural rhythm to the area olive harvests, local produce, and recipes that reflect the season ’ s warmth: roasted meats, hearty stews, and local desserts that taste of home.
Explore the Vineyards: The landscape is dotted with small family plots and scenic walking routes that reveal the region’s agricultural heritage Walk the Coastal Path: The seaside walkway from Sabinillas offers tranquil views, connecting beaches, coves, and viewpoints ideal for a gentle stroll or a bicycle ride. Discover the Roman Baths: Nestled inland, ancient sulphur springs recall centuries of history and relaxation a perfect glimpse into the area ’ s past.

With its whitewashed buildings, bobbing sailboats, and café terraces overlooking the marina, Puerto de la Duquesa is often called one of the most picturesque ports on the Costa del Sol. In November, it takes on a quieter elegance. Locals linger over long lunches, the sea glimmers softly in the afternoon light, and the sound of the masts swaying in the breeze replaces the buzz of summer crowds. It’s a perfect time for relaxed walks along the promenade, seaside dining, and enjoying the view as the sun dips below the horizon
Just a short stroll west of the port lies the historic heart of the area Castillo de la Duquesa, a charming coastal village built around an 18th-century fortress Here, narrow streets and traditional houses preserve the spirit of old Andalusia. The castle itself stands proudly overlooking the sea, a silent guardian of centuries past. Nearby, you’ll find traces of Roman heritage, quiet beaches, and that unmistakable small-village warmth that makes you feel instantly welcome. November is the perfect time to explore the area at your own pace, free from crowds, when the light is soft and the air smells faintly of salt and jasmine.
Nestled just above the coast, Duquesa Village offers serenity and sweeping views across the Mediterranean. With its landscaped gardens and panoramic terraces, it’s a peaceful retreat for those seeking calm and connection with nature. From here, it’s easy to appreciate the balance that defines Manilva sea, countryside, and tradition, all within a few minutes’ reach November mornings are ideal for walks through the hills, quiet reflection, or simply enjoying the stillness with a cup of coffee and a view that stretches all the way to Africa on clear days.

Golf on the Costa del Sol is world-renowned, with glorious sunshine, beautiful fairways, and a thriving golfing community. Yet even in a region blessed with such incredible outdoor courses, indoor golf offers a range of unique advantages that every golfer–beginner or experienced–can enjoy.
One of the major benefits of indoor golf is consistency. Weather, daylight hours, and course availability no longer dictate when you can practise Even here on the Costa del Sol, windy days, scorching heat, unexpected rain, or simply busy schedules can disrupt your game. Indoor golf provides a comfortable, climate-controlled environment where you can focus entirely on improvement, any time of day, all year round
Technology is another big advantage. Modern indoor golf simulators provide detailed swing analysis, ball-tracking data, and incredibly realistic course simulations. This gives players the opportunity to refine technique, practise specific shots, and analyse performance in ways that outdoor play alone can’t always offer.
Indoor golf is also perfect for newcomers Without the pressure of being on a full course, new golfers can learn at their own pace, build confidence, and enjoy the sport in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
And now for some exciting news: an indoor golf venue is coming soon! Whether you’re a seasoned golfer looking to sharpen your skills, or someone eager to try something new, you’ll soon have a state-of-the-art indoor golfing experience right on your doorstep.

Despite repeated promises to spearhead the global shift toward clean energy, the fossil fuel industry remains far from delivering on its commitments
A recent study by the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (ICTA-UAB), published in Nature Sustainability, reveals that the world’s leading oil and gas corporations hold control over only about 14% of renewable energy projects worldwide
The findings directly contradict the narrative promoted by major fossil fuel companies, which frequently portray themselves as central actors in combating climate change through their investments in green technologies Drawing on data from the Global Energy Monitor, the researchers examined the 250 largest oil and gas producers companies that together account for 88% of global hydrocarbon output. They identified over 3,100 renewable projects (including wind, solar, hydro, and geothermal) involving these companies, whether through direct ownership, subsidiaries, or acquisitions
The outcome was telling: just 20% of these corporations operate any renewable energy project at all, and renewable power accounts for a mere 01% of their total production These numbers paint a stark contrast to their sustainability rhetoric and climate pledges

This mismatch between corporate messaging and real-world action stands in sharp contrast to the industry’s public declarations about leading emissions reductions Data from Zero Carbon Analytics shows that among the 100 biggest oil and gas firms, nearly a quarter have announced greenhouse gas reduction goals for 2030, averaging a 43% cut in operational emissions While impressive on paper, these targets largely serve as public relations exercises rather than meaningful transformation.
We look forward to your comments and opinion, please submit them to www.webexpresssguide.com

Lead researcher Marcel Llavero-Pasquina of ICTA-UAB summarized the situation bluntly: “Oil companies participation in renewable energy is negligible Their contribution to addressing the climate crisis should be judged only by how much fossil fuel they leave untapped.”
The study also delivers a pointed message to governments and institutions that continue to partner with fossil fuel companies under the illusion that they can drive the energy transition “After decades of broken promises, it’s time for public institutions and policymakers to recognize that the fossil fuel industry remains part of the problem not the solution These companies should not be deciding the future of climate and energy policy,” Llavero-Pasquina added
Julia Steinberger, a professor at the University of Lausanne, echoed this sentiment, noting that the findings confirm what many have long suspected: the oil, gas, and coal sectors are not truly shifting toward clean energy “Despite catchy slogans and green marketing, fossil fuel lobbyists still hold sway over political decision-making,” she said
Kasandra O’Malia, who leads the Global Solar Power Tracker at Global Energy Monitor, was even more direct: “Oil and gas firms are not investing in renewables to the extent they claim Their public commitments amount to nothing more than greenwashing” Ultimately, the research leaves a sobering conclusion: as long as oil giants prioritize extraction over genuine transformation, the much-touted “ energy transition” will remain a slogan rather than a reality proof that, as the saying goes, it’s a lot of talk and very little action

Spain’s
As November arrives, Spain awakens to the unmistakable aroma of castañas roasted chestnuts crackling on street corners, filling plazas and markets with the scent of autumn. More than just a seasonal snack, chestnuts hold deep cultural roots across the country, marking the transition into colder days and the start of cherished regional traditions.
In November, chestnuts appear everywhere in Spanish daily life:

Street Roasters (Castañeras): Iconic kiosks and portable stands pop up, you can find one at the border of Gibraltar and Spain, Some in Sabinillas, and Estepona, just keep your eye out. Wrapped in newspaper cones, roasted castañas are the ultimate seasonal street treat.
Local Markets: Fresh chestnuts are sold in abundance at municipal markets like Madrid’s Mercado de la Paz, Barcelona’s La Boqueria, or Valencia’s Central Market, as well as weekly village markets across the country.
Supermarkets: Most national chains Mercadona, Carrefour, Alcampo stock fresh chestnuts, vacuum-packed roasted varieties, and even chestnut purée during the autumn season.
Festivals & Rural Fairs: In the north, traditional celebrations like Magosto (Galicia and León) and La Castañada(Catalonia) honor the chestnut harvest with communal fires, music, and mountains of roasted nuts.
Chestnuts are more than food; they’re tied to memory and ritual. Many families prepare dishes like guiso de castañas, crema de castañas, or chestnut-stuffed roasts during November. Their presence signals a time of gathering, warmth, and the celebration of local landscapes.
As the year winds down and winter approaches, castañas remain a delicious reminder of Spain’s deep connection to its forests, its traditions, and the comforting flavours of the harvest season.
