"The Colour of Life" brings together a stunning collection of figurative portraits, created with vibrant acrylics on canvas. In each piece, colour takes centre stage, with intense reds, electric blues, and luminous greens that convey movement, emotion, and joy. Each portrait is more than just an image; it’s a celebration of life and the transformative power of art. The iconic Marbell Center has welcomed its first business back as part of a major transformation project that promises to give the building a new lease of life. After years of inactivity, the centre has finally begun its long-awaited revival, marking an important moment for the heart of Marbella. The reopening comes as part of an ambitious refurbishment programme that aims to convert the once-dormant space into a modern, accessible and vibrant shopping destination. A New Era for a Familiar Landmark The building, which once played a central role in the town’s commercial life, has undergone significant redevelopment works designed to bring it up to date with today’s expectations. The project will transform the ageing structure into a contemporary retail centre featuring improved layouts, better access and modern facilities — all with the aim of restoring its relevance within Marbella’s busy town centre. Although the renovation work is still ongoing, the arrival of the first operating business marks a symbolic return to life for the shopping centre. It signals a new chapter not just for the building itself, but also for the surrounding area, which is expected to benefit from increased footfall and renewed interest. Full Completion by Early 2026 Renovation works are scheduled to continue throughout 2025, with the full reopening expected in early 2026. Once completed, the centre will offer a more open, inviting environment, adapted to the needs of both residents and visitors. The refurbished space is designed to provide easier access, improved circulation and a more comfortable experience for shoppers. While details of future businesses have yet to be fully revealed, the redevelopment aims to attract a wide range of retail and service outlets that reflect modern consumer needs.

Judging by the amount of activity he embarked on in the course of November, he is certainly proving his intentions of his “COMPROMISO” Some of the points we made on behalf of residents have already been acted upon. This is why it is important that foreign residents of all nationalities let us know about any matters that could improve living and working conditions in the area. Of course, a full list of what has been done can be found on the Council’s website, but we would like to highlight a few items that seem especially relevant: The governing team is already working on the creation of the Municipal Council The First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Health, Juan Carlos Morejón, attended the Council of the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters of Malaga, to defend the safety of Manilva, highlighting that without the fire station, waiting times in an emergency increase, endangering the lives of citizens. Both the mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, and the Governing Team will continue to demand improvements in health, security, and education services for the residents. Urbanizations. Villa Matilde now open to all Mario Jiménez, the mayor of Manilva, and the councillor, Rogelio Pascual, also visited the area to check the improvements, which guarantee more comfortable and inclusive access to the facilities where numerous events are held. The Infrastructure and Works Department, headed by Marcos Ruiz, has eliminated the architectural barriers to access to Villa Matilde, creating a ramp adapted for people with reduced mobility and baby strollers.
Progress is being made on projects related to the well-being of our elderly. As reported in recent days, the mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, and the councillor for Social Welfare have shown themselves receptive to studying the feasibility of projects related to the care of our elderly. In this case, talks have continued with the interested company to take steps and see the definitive possibilities of having a nursing home in our town. FEEDBACK PROVIDED TO WEB EXPRESS GUIDE FROM LOCAL RESIDENTS: We have received two main complaints and areas of feedback from local residents and business owners. The primary concern is the removal of already limited parking spaces to accommodate rubbish bins. Previously, these bins were discreetly placed behind a wall and out of sight; now they are the first thing visitors see when entering Duquesa, creating a poor first impression and worsening parking shortages, especially during the busy tourist season. The second concern comes from restaurant and bar owners in Duquesa Port, who are asking when permits for live music will be made available. Many are willing to pay for a licence to offer live music during set hours, but have repeatedly been told that new permits are no longer being issued by the mayor. Instead they suffer from sudden police fines, worth thousands, killing an already difficult economy during winter season.

Method Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine suet, sugar, breadcrumbs, flour, dried fruit, candied peel, nuts, and spices. Add wet ingredients: Stir in the eggs, stout, brandy, and citrus zest until the mixture is well combined. Prepare the pudding basin: Grease a 1.2–1.5 litre (2–2½ pint) pudding basin. Spoon in the mixture, pressing down lightly. Cover with a layer of greaseproof paper and a layer of foil, securing tightly with string. Steam the pudding: Place the basin in a large pan with boiling water halfway up the sides. Cover and steam for 6 hours, checking water levels occasionally. Cool & store: Allow the pudding to cool completely. It can be wrapped and stored in a cool, dry place for several weeks. Traditionally, it is steamed again before serving. To serve: Reheat by steaming for 1–2 hours. Pour a little brandy over the pudding and carefully ignite to flambé, if desired. Serve with brandy butter, cream, or custard.

Meta will stop Facebook’s long-standing “Like” and “Share” buttons for external websites on 10 February 2026, drawing to a close one of the web’s most familiar tools for quick social interaction. Millions of sites have used these plugins for more than a decade, allowing visitors to signal approval or share articles without leaving the page. Their removal marks a significant shift in how Meta intends to connect its platforms with the wider internet. According to Meta, the external buttons no longer fit its strategy of simplifying social features and prioritising engagement within its own apps. Usage has steadily declined as more people share content directly through Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp rather than via third-party sites. The company also noted that eliminating the plugins will reduce maintenance demands and improve privacy by limiting cross-site tracking, a long-standing criticism of embedded social tools. Meta now wants users to share content through in-app features, while websites will need to rely on native platform sharing options or simple link-copying.

EL FOLKLORE MALAGUEÑO, UNA GRAN RIQUEZA CULTURAL Juan Emilio Ríos Vera Desde mi etapa de estudiante de E.G.B me atraían sobremanera todos los textos relacionados con la sabiduría popular, siendo mis preferidos los romances y las jarchas. Ya, mucho más recientemente, descubrí la existencia de unas batallas de pandas de verdiales que se celebran en la localidad malagueña de Benagalbón, en plena Anarquía. Me pareció alucinante que se conserven a día de hoy, en la época de la Inteligencia Artificial, la robótica y el streaming, encuentros tan entrañables y románticos como estos. Para el que no esté muy familiarizado con este arte, decidles que los verdiales con un cante que es considerado por bastantes historiadores del cante flamenco como los fandangos más remotos que aún se conservan. Además, su idiosincrasia tan particular, transmitida de forma oral de generación en generación, por el infalible método del “boca a oreja”, de manera tradicional, lejos del academicismo que tanto ha mutilado a muchos palos del flamenco, ha mantenido a este cante como un fósil conservado el sílex, inalterable, a pesar del paso del tiempo, lo que ha hecho que hoy en día tenga un sonido añejo, puro, genuino y radical, que lo convierte en un tesoro sin adulterar. Su sonido, ritmo y manera de ejecutarse que los neófitos ni siquiera vinculan al flamenco, es tan diferente e inconfundible que lo hacen único. Cantando con la compañía de violines, guitarras, castañuelas, pandero y platillos, con un ritmo vertiginoso y casi fuera de tono, con letras salidas del quehacer diario en el campo y con distintos estilos: Montes, Almogía y Comares, que difieren en sus planteamientos y ejecución, pero no en su concepto genérico. Conservan la misma base, pero han desarrollado distintas características que lo hacen más rico si cabe.
