If you are living in Spain, one of the key obligations to be aware of is the annual income tax return, known as theDeclaración de la Renta.
The filing period typically runs from April to June, and it applies to residents who have earned income during the previous year. For many foreign residents, this can be confusing, especially when income comes from different countries or sources.
In Spain, your tax return is based on your world wide income This means you may need to declare not only employment income, but also pensions, investments, rental income, and even ownership of additional properties. For example, a second home that is not rented may still generate a small taxable imputed income, while rental properties must be declared with their corresponding income and expenses
It is important to note that you are not required to submit supporting documents, such as certificates or invoices, together with your tax return. However, these documents must be kept and available in case the tax authorities request them later
Beyond simply declaring income, a crucial part of the tax return is understanding how that income is treated and whether any deductions or allowances apply This is often where taxpayers miss opportunities. In many cases, deductions are not applied simply because the taxpayer is unaware of them or because the person preparing the return does not ask the right questions.
In Spain, there are hundreds of potential deductions, both at a national and regional level. Identifying which ones apply is not a matter of chance, but of applying a systematic approach to reviewing each case.
At LIMIT, we focus on exactly that: ensuring that your tax return is complete, accurate, and optimised. By combining a structured process with professional review, we make sure that nothing is overlooked and all eligible deductions are applied.
For foreign residents navigating the Spanish system, this can make a significant difference both in compliance and in the final result.

1.Make your rice. Toss all the coconut milk, water, and rice in the Instant Pot and then beep-boop you’re done! (You can also do it on the stovetop/rice cooker if that’s your jam – see the FAQ below )
2.Caramelize your pork. Pull that pork out of the sauce and toss it in a hot pan. You want it to be able to sear and caramelize so make sure you don’t dump the sauce in too (then it will steam the pork, not as ideal!)
3.Pineapple and finish. Once the pork has a nice sear, toss your pineapple chunks in to get it all nice and caramelized and saucy You can also add a little more teriyaki at this point if your heart calls for it.

Recent data from Spain’s national water monitoring system shows that water quality varies across the country. In some areas, nitrate levels in tap water are above recommended health guidelines, and in a few cases they have gone beyond the legal limit. This has raised concerns about water quality, especially in rural and farming areas.
According to the latest government analysis, more than 3,000 municipalities in Spain have tap water with nitrate levels above the new precautionary recommendation of 6 mg/l. Although 99% of Spain’s drinking water still meets the current legal standard set by the EU, studies published in 2026 suggest that long-term exposure to nitrate levels above 6 mg/l may increase health risks, particularly for babies and pregnant women.
The highest nitrate levels are usually found in farming regions with intensive agriculture and livestock production, including:

Once considered a quiet, lesser-known corner of the Costa del Sol, the municipality of Manilva encompassing Sabinillas, Puerto de la Duquesa and Castillo has undergone a remarkable transformation. Today, it is not only attracting a growing wave of international visitors, but also a new generation of foreign residents who are reshaping the local economy through quality businesses and long-term investment
Walk along the marina in Puerto de la Duquesa or the beachfront promenade of Sabinillas, and the diversity is unmistakable British, Dutch, German, Scandinavian, and increasingly American and Eastern European residents are not just buying second homes they are settling permanently Many are entrepreneurs launching boutique restaurants, wellness studios, co-working spaces, and servicebased businesses that cater to an international clientele
This shift is part of a broader trend across southern Spain, where international buyers now account for a significant share of the property market In Málaga province, foreign purchasers represent around 39% of all property transactions, with numbers steadily rising over the past decade . But what makes Manilva stand out is how this global demand is concentrating in a place that, until recently, flew under the radar
This entrepreneurial influx is elevating the quality and variety of local offerings The result is a cosmopolitan yet intimate atmosphere, where traditional Andalusian life blends with global influences
Despite rising living costs, the appeal of Manilva remains strong and in some ways, even stronger. Property prices have increased significantly, with average values approaching €2,900 per square metre in 2026, reflecting annual growth of over 17% Rental prices are also climbing, mirroring demand Yet buyers continue to arrive The reasons are both practical and aspirational
First, relative value still plays a major role Compared to nearby hotspots like Marbella, Manilva offers considerably lower entry prices while delivering the same Mediterranean lifestyle sunshine, beaches, and infrastructure For many, it represents one of the last “accessible” coastal markets in the region
Second, lifestyle migration is reshaping priorities The rise of remote work and flexible living has enabled professionals to relocate without sacrificing career opportunities The area ’ s proximity to Gibraltar and Málaga Airport adds further convenience, making international mobility seamless

Third, there is a growing emphasis on authenticity Unlike more developed resorts, Manilva retains a traditional Spanish character vineyards, local markets, and a slower pace of life which is increasingly valued by buyers seeking more than just a holiday destination
For many newcomers, purchasing property is not just about lifestyle it’s a strategic investment Spain recorded over 700,000 property transactions in 2025, with foreign buyers accounting for nearly a fifth of the total In emerging areas like Manilva, the combination of capital appreciation and rental potential is particularly attractive This dual purpose home and asset explains why higher living costs have not deterred demand Instead, they reinforce the perception that the area is on an upward trajectory
As foreign residents continue to put down roots, Manilva is evolving into a dynamic, multicultural hub The challenge now lies in balancing growth with sustainability ensuring that development enhances, rather than erodes, the character that made the area attractive in the first place
For now, however, the momentum is undeniable What was once a hidden gem is becoming an international destination not just for holidays, but for life

For most of human history, growth has felt natural even inevitable. Cities expanded, harvests improved, and the global population climbed from millions to billions in just a fewcenturies

Ecologists use the term carrying capacity to describe the number of individuals an environment can support without being damaged For animals in nature, this limit is relatively clear Humans, however, have complicated the equation through technology.
Modern civilization reshapes ecosystems on a massive scale. Rivers are redirected, deserts irrigated, and global trade moves food across continents. Most importantly, fossil fuels provide enormous amounts of energy that support agriculture, transportation, andindustry.
This hidden energy bonus has allowed humanity to grow far beyond natural limits. Roughly half of global food production depends on synthetic fertilizers made using fossilfuels.Withoutthem, today’sfoodsystems andpopulationsize wouldlookvery different.

A recent scientific analysis examined global population trends using historical data. Instead of simply counting people, researchers studied how growth rates changed as the population increased. Their results reveal a shift beginning in the early 1960s: population expansionstartedtoencounterstrongerresistance.

This change appeared even before another key milestone. Around 1970, humanity’s ecological footprint is believed to have exceeded Earth’s ability to regenerate resources annually.Insimpleterms,peoplebeganconsumingnaturefasterthanitcouldrecover.
Using demographic models, scientists estimate that under the current system the global populationcouldleveloffsomewherenear12billionpeoplelaterthiscentury.Yetthisfigure doesnotrepresentathrivingworld.Instead, itmaydescribeaplanetstretchedtoitslimits, survivingbydrainingremainingresourcesratherthanlivingsustainably.
To understand what long-term balance might look like, researchers calculated a lower “sustainable capacity.” Based on earlier historical conditions and ecological constraints, they suggest a world population of roughly 2 to 3 billion people could live comfortably withoutoverwhelmingnaturalsystems.
Thecomparisonisstriking.Humanitycurrentlyconsumesresourcesequivalenttoabout1.7 Earths. Reducing environmental pressure to safer levels would require major changes in consumption, technology, orpopulationsize ormorelikely, allthree.
Not every region experiences these pressures at the same time. Some parts of the world saw growth slow decades ago, while others are only now entering this phase. Economic development, demographics, andaccesstoresourcesshapehowthesetransitionsunfold.
The lesson is not one of doom, but of limits. Infinite growth cannot exist on a finite planet. The real question facing humanity is how to adjust before nature forces harsher corrections.
