TWENTIETH CENTURY HEAD by PHILIP CLAIRMONT This Clairmont oil of 1971 belongs to the period of the large fireplaces, the visionary heads in the flames surrounded by the grate, the faces framed in mirrors. The 'portraits' of this period are part self-portraits, part portraits of schizophrenic twentieth century man. (See note on Clairmont's exhibition at the C.S.A.
