Spring Sports Sneak Peak

SOFTBALL Under first-year head coach Rob Spofford, the new-look Saints are playing competitive softball everytime they hit the diamond. Over the first 20 games of the season, Emmanuel has posted a 7-13 record, already matching their win total from last season. This year’s squad will look to build the foundation for years to come, currently featuring freshman starters in five positions. One weapon the Saints have is their speed as they currently lead the GNAC with 58 stolen bases while ranking ninth in the nation among D-III institutions averaging 2.9 steals per game. Freshman shortstop Catherine Davis is off to a great start leading EC with a .433 average and has already been named the GNAC Rookie of the Week on two separate occasions. Also playing well is rookie pitcher Val Kiers who has posted three wins on the hill over her first month of action.

MEN’S LACROSSE Although the Saints are only 3-7, the 2013 unit is playing very competitive lacrosse and will look to surprise some teams in the GNAC playoffs.

Emmanuel played its toughest schedule in the program’s history, facing off against a total of 13 ranked opponents as well as a match against Division I Harvard. The squad is very young as 17 of its 18 members are underclassmen with only senior captain Nick Updike representing the upperclass. Updike recently became the program’s alltime leader in assists when he dished out his 3,210th helper against #13 MIT in the Endicot College March Mania tournament.
