Aquick wayto see a horse’s past performance. These are its recent finishing positions.
Look out for Letters:
C = Has won at this course
D = Has won over this distance
CD = Has won over this distance at this course
BF = Was a beaten favourite
MORE INFORMATION ON THE FORM
- = New racing season
/ = Missed racing season
P = Was pulled-up and didn’t finish the race
F = Horse fell
U = Rider unseated
R = Horse refused to race
CO = The horse was forced out of a race by a loose horse
B = Horse was brought down
S = Horse slipped
r = The horse ran around a jump or took the wrong course in a flat race
d = Disqualified
Bold form
figures = performance in all-weather (Flat) or Point-to-Point (Jump) races
How the experts rate the horse’s chances:
2. BHA rating = the higher the number, the better the horse.
3. Timeform view and TFR rating
Look out for the summary of leading course trainers before each race.
Listen out for any jockeys who are having a successful day.
OTHER USEFUL DETAILS
6. Owner’s colours worn by the Jockey
7. Saddlecloth number
8. Horse’s name
9. Days since the horse last run
10. Horse’s age
11. Jockey’s weight (stone and Ibs)
12. The horse’s breeding – father (sire) and mother (dam)
13. Horse’s owner
14. Horse’s breeder
15. Birthplace of horse (outside GB)
Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number
Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.
‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. ‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.
Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.
Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.
Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.
12:20 – A tricky opening novice hurdle to start the Virgin Bet sponsored card. The Nicky Henderson pair are bound to be well fancied. Stable jockey Nico de Bionville is booked to ride the once raced Ionian, who made a pleasing debut at Kempton on Boxing Day. Last time out winner Sinchi Roca looks the one to be on here, he won comfortably on his hurdle debut and could have the race sewn up half way up the straight.
12:55 – A small but select field for the novice handicap hurdle. Two that catch the eye as an alternative to likely favourite Bollin Thou are the unexposed ex French recruit Calme Olympien and the improving Joe Tizzard trained Tennessee Tango Calme Olympien put up a good performance at Ffos Las in October and with James Bowen on board again, we expect a follow up win.
13:25 - A competitive Class 3 handicap hurdle next. The Gary Moore trained Rip Wheeler at the bottom of the weights catches the eye. Lightly raced and progressive this season he should give a very good account of himself, as distance and conditions are of no obvious concern. The danger looks to be Soldierofthestorm.

14:02 – A two mile handicap chase, this could also be another winner for the Gary Mooretrained Kotmask. Campaigned at slightly higher level and yet still low mileage, coming off the back of a great run at Sandown in January, finishing second to Vanderpoel off 129 He remains on the same mark today. The danger to the selection at a decent each-way price would be the Jenny Candlish-trained Classic Maestro who should be there abouts at the finish.

14:40 – Most likely to be Kitzbuhel’s race to lose after his performance at Kempton on Boxing day, making all and jumping very impressively. Kala Conti will be looking to claim a hat-trick alongside Kitzbuhel, and Gordon Elliot’s mare comes here after a 16-length victory over Kargese at Cork and certainly will have her say in this race Sixmilebridge is four wins from 6 under Kielan Woods and this team could rip up the script here with soft ground in his favour
15:10 – Henri The Second is back on form after a wind op, winning over C&D in December 2024 and a close second over C&D earlier this month. The heavier ground on this hurdle course should suit. Titan Discovery was impressive last time out, winning a competitive Grade 2 handicap at Cheltenham in December Party Vibes is a mare that can get involved here and should be good value to place, with two impressive runs at the back of last year should see some support for her.
15:42 – Mr Vango was unlucky not to win the Becher in December, just losing out to 18/1 shot Twig by a short head. A convincing ride over the Grand National course was a good indication he has more to offer Pic Roc hasn’t made any headlines in the last few appearances but has a better record on softer ground, which might be the catalyst to a performance akin to his 2024 form. Fortunate man will also be supported, a winning fav on boxing day at Aintree and is being ridden by the in form Harry Cobden.

SINCHI ROCA made a smooth transition to hurdling when accounting for a well-backed favourite at Wincanton16daysagoandlooksuptodefyingapenalty NickyHendersonsaddlesacoupleofinteresting runners in Ionian and Grand Teton. The idiom ‘horses for courses’ often rings true at Sandown and GUNSIGHT RIDGE, who made it two wins from four starts at this course (placed on other two occasions) when seeing off Dr T J Eckleburg in this race last season, is taken to enhance his good record round here. He has far lower mileage than most 11-y-os and is back down to the same mark as 12 months ago DrTJ Eckleburg could again prove dangerous and is feared most ahead ofthe rock-solid Escapeandevade and novice Jax Junior

Last year’s Virgin Bet Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase went the way of Handstands under a strong Ben Jones, who delivered glory back to the Ben Pauling stable. That price would go on to look generous as Handstands bravely stuck to his task to land this prize at the highest level. Ridden forward from the off, Jones tactically kept the pace on and went pillar to post, aided by some excellent jumping from the horse. Approaching the home straight, it turned into a

KITZBUHEL impressed with his jumping when making all in the Kauto Star at Kempton over Christmas and should prove hard to pass around here with the drop back in trip unlikely to be an issue.
