Dear Friends of Punchestown,
unchestown, elcome Punches e Punches y M f sponsor o Br contin t
I’m delighted to welcome you to Punchestown today for our final fixture in advance of the 2026 Punchestown Festival which takes place from Tuesday 28th April to Saturday 2nd May. We have a fantastic day of racing action in store.
I would particularly like to welcome our sponsors today, Matchbook Betting Exchange, who are kindly sponsoring six of our seven races, along with the Irish European Breeders Fund, both tremendous supporters of racing. Their continued backing is greatly appreciated, and it is loyal sponsors such as these that enable us to stage such highquality racing at Punchestown.
Three of the Matchbook races on today’s card form part of the €50,000 Matchbook 50:50 Graduation Series. This exciting initiative offers a €50,000 bonus to the first horse that wins a designated qualifier and then goes on to land a Grade 1 at the 2026 Punchestown Festival, with a further €50,000 in free bets for existing Matchbook users. With twelve targeted qualifiers designed to showcase emerging talent, today is the last chance to book your spot for the Festival incentive! Matchbook, renowned for top-tier odds on Irish racing, sponsored 28 races at Punchestown this season, including three graded contests. This significant partnership reflects Matchbook’s deepening commitment to Irish jump racing.
I hope you enjoy your day at Punchestown and perhaps back a winner or two along the way In the meantime, I look forward to welcoming each and every one of you back here on Tuesday 28th April for Day 1 of the 2026 Punchestown Festival. The countdown is on!
Kindest regards,
Conor O’Neill CEO, Punchestown

STRAIGHT JOHN offered some encouragement at Leopardstown over Christmas and built on that to chase home the long odds-on Leader d’Allier here. He probably needs to step forward again, but is certainly going the right away Gordon Elliott also saddles Doctor Elvis, who blew away the cobwebs in the Naas bumper won so devastatingly by Love Sign d’Aunou. Better is expected but the biggest test for the selection will probably come from Bulgaden Castle, who proved his 50/1 Naas third was no fluke when going one better at Thurles.

COURT COMPLIANCE has been consistent over hurdles and looks the most convincing option based on his potential to progress further Each of his three second-placed finishes stacks up well in the context of this race and dropping back to 2m4f could be a rewarding move after he simply ran out of steam over a couple of furlongs further most recently The well-bred Boedic is in the right hands to flourish as he gains experience and the Willie Mullins-trained gelding looks a bigger danger than the more exposed Newbrook Diamond just now.

SITUATED BESIDE THE WINNERS ENCLOSURE
The first thing to consider is which type of bet you wish to place. The most common is a win bet, where if your selection wins, you win. It is a no nonsense, on the nose bet and if you are lucky enough to pick a big-priced winner, you will receive a nice return. For example, place €5 to win on a 10-1 shot and you will receive €55 back, €50 winnings plus your €5 stake. Another common bet is each-way. This is effectively two bets in one. One bet is on your selection to win and the other is on it to place. Depending on the type of race and how many runners are in the race will determine how many places are offered The industry standard bookmaker place terms are as follows:
All races of less than 5 runners – win only
All races of 5-7 runners –1/4 odds a place, 1,2
All other races of more than 8 runners –1/5, 1,2,3
Handicaps of 12-15 runners –1/4 , 1,2,3
Handicaps of more than 15 runners –1/4 , 1,2,3,4

COUSIN KATE continued her rapid rise with a Listed handicap success at the Dublin Racing Festival and there might still be more to come from Denis Hogan’s mare. The daughter of Maxios takes on her half-sister Baby Kate, but the latter will need to find improvement and Lantry Lady looks the bigger threat. She was outclassed in the Galmoy latest and has been struggling for some time in truth, but this is a chance to bounce back. A competitive affair, with James The Brave sure to be popular after his all-the-way win here. Landing a gamble on that occasion, he has been raised 5lb and could well follow up, with leading conditional Michael Kenneally again on board. For a selection, ELLIES ROCK is marginally preferred Rated just 76, she has two solid efforts to her name since joining Terence O’Brien and after finishing second on her most recent start, it’ll come as no surprise if she manages to go a place better Third and sixth to Marelly at Gowran on Thyestes day, Bruno From Mars and Poets Oath are of interest, while C&D winner Johnny Cakes and Ross O’Sullivan’s Driveonwill are other leading hopes. Half-sister to Strawman, won six times between 1m and 1m 4f. Her pedigree is a cross for speed and stamina so any support in the betting would have foundations.
Probable Starting Prices - 4/5 Gili Island, 11/4 Brady Hartsfield, 8/1 Keep Twisting, 12/1 Littlebeen, 16/1 Born De Ceres (FR), Betty’s Glen 2025 - 1st Santo Sospir (FR) 2nd The Wager 3rd Top Coeur (FR) (4 min. 45.3 sec.)
With no form to go on, this is a difficult contest to assess. Representing top connections, GILI ISLAND appears the one to beat. Bought for 45,000 euros as a foal, the Crystal Ocean bay is a half-brother to Mr Incredible, an enigmatic but talented individual who filled the runner-up spot in the Midlands National of 2024. Littlebeen is the second choice, with this one a half-sister to stable companion Whatcouldhavebeen, a four-time winner who was placed at the highest level over flights. Successful with Heads Up here on Sunday, John McConnell saddles Brady Hartsfield and he is the most interesting of the remainder
