RACE SUMMARY The Ross O’Sullivan-trained TALK IN THE PARK can open his account over fences. Having been handicapped over the minimum trip, the seven-year-old ran a huge race when runner-up in a beginners chase at Galway in August. Subsequently third on his first start in handicap company at Listowel, he ran well in a much stronger race when fourth in the Munster National last time. Smart hurdler Waterford Whispers has yet to replicate that form over fences, but gives the impression that he has more to offer. It would be no surprise to see an improved performance upped in distance here. High Class Hero, third in the bet365 Gold Cup, has to be respected if fit and ready on his seasonal reappearance.

The first thing to consider is which type of bet you wish to place. The most common is a win bet, where if your selection wins, you win. UNIBET MORGIANA RACE PREVIEW Run over two miles and half a furlong, the inaugural running of this race took place back in 1988 and was classed at Listed level, before progressing up the ranks to earn Grade 1 status in 2006. Four runners are set to battle out the Grade 1 Morgiana Hurdle, sponsored by Unibet, which has worked its way to become one of the key races in the Irish racing calendar - won last year by the classy mare Brighterdaysahead.

The ante-post murmurings proved accurate as Lossiemouth emerges as the stable’s chief hope, with short-priced favourite Anzadam seemingly rerouted toward the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle. Last season’s star mare completed the Cheltenham–Aintree double over two-and-a-half miles, and all eyes will be on whether she retains the sharpness required dropping back in trip. Receiving a useful 7lb allowance, she sets the standard and is sure to command support.

RACE SUMMARY A winner at Fairyhouse earlier this month, STICWITHTHEPROCESS can follow up back in handicap company. Having landed the odds in a maiden hurdle, the handicapper decided to leave him on the same rating and with the form of his previous run in handicap company having been well advertised by the winner, the Ted Walsh-trained gelding could be nicely treated. Collaborative, who was a well-beaten third behind Sticwiththeprocess in April, is almost certainly better than that form suggests. His win at Fairyhouse a couple of months earlier looks strong given the subsequent exploits of the runner-up. Saint Le Fort, who caught the eye at Cork last time, is one to consider for an in-form stable.

RACE SUMMARY A promising third on his racecourse debut here in February, ROJUCO MAC can make a winning reappearance. The form of that contest looked above average at the time, and the fourth proved that theory right when subsequently landing a bumper. Unlikely to want for ﬁtness coming from these quarters, the Charles Byrnes-trained gelding can make the breakthrough on this second start. Runner-up on both appearances under Rules to date, Grandy Lane shouldn’t be long in registering a ﬁrst victory. Down Royal bumper scorer Ballyfad has to carry a penalty for that success, but the point-to-point winner has to be respected in his bid to maintain his unbeaten record.

HANDICAPS EXPLAINED

After three races on the track, the handicap rating system knows enough about a horse to give them an official rating, which in turn determines how much weight they carry in future contests. For example, if one horse is rated 100, and the other is rated 95, the horse rated five points more than the other will essentially carry an additional 5lb in weight. Should the horse carrying 5lb extra continue to beat horses rated inferior to them or amongst those with similar figures, that horse would rise up the class system to tackle harder races against better individuals. The aim of a handicap race is to give every horse an equal chance of winning, and the plan is to have every horse crossing the finish line at the same time - which is surprisingly yet to happen!
