SUNDAY 5TH APRIL 2026

WELCOME

Welcome to The BetGoodwin Easter Festival

Welcome to Plumpton Racecourse, and from all the team, we wish you a very Happy Easter.

Today’s 7 race card is key within our fixture list and not only offers a fabulous day out but also over £116,000 in prize money. The day is headlined by the BetGoodwin Sussex Champion Hurdle worth £65,000. In 2025, Plumpton found itself at the heart of a thrilling Trainers’ Championship battle between Dan Skelton and Willie Mullins The Sussex Champion Hurdle was claimed by theMullins-trainedAbsurde,whowentontocompeteintheiconicMelbourne Cup, the race that stops a nation. Who knows where this year’s winner might appear next, perhaps even under the bright spotlight of Royal Ascot. The supporting card promises equally compelling action, and we extend our thanks to our partners BetGoodwin for helping to make the day possible. We are also grateful to Peter Savill, who sponsors two special races held in memory of his daughter Charlotte, and his parents Harry and Betty.

Easter Sunday is always one of the liveliest days of the season at Plumpton, with both enclosures open and a full programme of entertainment. At the heart of the course, accessible to all racegoers, you’ll find a whole load of family fun. From a fun fair to complimentary attractions including a wall trampoline, climbing wall, Zorb balls, petting zoo, donkey rides, face painting and more, there is something to delightvisitors of all ages. With seven exciting races and entertainment for all, today promises to be a memorable occasion for the whole family

Looking ahead, we race again tomorrow before heading into our final two fixtures of the season: Sussex Day on Sunday 19th April, followed by our grand finale, Ladies Day, on Sunday 10th May. We hope to welcome you back for both of these fantastic events, and you’ll find a special advance booking offer within today’s racecard.

Have a lovely day at Plumpton, Heart Of Our Community.

Hurdles - The obstacles jumped during a hurdle race. They are smaller than fences and therefore take less jumping. Sometimes referred to as flights.

Pulling - A horse who is keen during a race and wants to go faster than its jockey is allowing.

Pushed out - Describes a horse who has gone clear of its rivals in a race after minimal urging from its jockey.

Staying on - A phrase referring to a horse who finished strongly during the closing stages.

Stewards’ inquiry - An inquiry held at the racecourse on a raceday after any given race.

Tongue-tie - A strap used to tie down a horse’s tongue to prevent the tongue getting over the bit which affects a horse’s breathing.

Turn of foot - A term to describe marked acceleration during a race.

Under starter’s orders - Before a race, the starter brings the field of horses into order to prepare them for the start of the race.

Although she’s been expensive to follow in two outings over hurdles, compensation could be on the cards for EREMENKO’s supporters. The five-year-old finished 30 lengths clear of the third when runner-up at Chepstow last month and she rates as the one to beat. Point-to-point second Risk De Cerisy is a potential fly in the ointment on her Rules/stable bow for Dan Skelton and market support would be interesting. That Is Blue is best of the remainder.

totewin: Eremenko

toteeachway: Risk De Cerisy

Delgany Deadline has improved with each outing over fences, culminating in a triumph at Leicester 40 days ago, and a 5lb higher mark is unlikely to prevent another bold display. However, SWEET NIGHTINGALE was more taking when landing the spoils at Exeter recently and she may be able to shrug off a 7lb rise. Ballyfinn continues to slide down the ratings and shouldn’t be underestimated.

totewin: Sweet Nightingale

toteeachway: Delgany Deadline

GOODWIN FACE lost little in defeat when finding only a rival at the beginning of his resurgence too strong here last May. A 1lb nudge up the ratings looks lenient and the six-year-old could be poised to open his account on his comeback. Although Pottersmattyeeehaa could only muster a fourth-placed effort at Huntingdon, that looked a decent race for the grade. Matt Crawley’s charge is feared most, ahead of Shalfa.

totewin: Goodwin Face

toteeachway: Pottersmattyeehaa

Sea Thrift made the most of a small-field affair at Southwell and she merits respect given her record over fences. A 6lb rise does demand more of her and it could be worth taking a punt on ANGEL’S DREAM. The eight-year-old was going OK when making a bad mistake at the fourth-last over C&D and he may surprise. Away For The Night is a feasible alternative.

totewin: Angel’s Dream

toteeachway: Sea Thrift

A change of tactics saw MONDO MAN get off the mark over hurdles in a facile manner over C&D on his penultimate start. Another cosy success followed as favourite in the Imperial Cup at Sandown and this progressive five-year-old, who was fourth in a red-hot handicap at Ascot just before Christmas, is very much the one to beat. Serious Challenge, Helnwein and Indemnity form the main body of opposition and are feared in that order.

totewin: Mondo Man

toteeachway: Serious Challenge

SUPERSTYLIN is on a roll and can follow up his latest win at Fontwell, despite a 4lb rise. Chris Gordon’s consistent nine-year-old has scope to improve over the trip and the fitting of cheekpieces could be instrumental in further success. Sanitiser is open to progression regarding distance too and, having also won two of his last three starts, must be taken seriously. Next best is Inca De Lafayette, who has less to prove than Person Of Interest.

totewin: Superstylin

toteeachway: Sanitiser

RUKAANA didn’t do much wrong when he finished a close-up third at Kempton and, from the same mark, he must have every chance of extending his run of good form. Ephyra commands respect on the back of her best effort yet over hurdles, while Eliza Dolittle and Washington Singer don’t have much to find to make their presence known. Market House is fit from the Flat and could also have a big say.

totewin: Rukaana

toteeachway: Ephyra

GBB NOTICE

The Great British Bonus (GBB) incentivises and rewards with breeding, buying and racing of British-bred fillies by paying out bonuses of up to £100,000 per filly. And now with GBBPlus to further incentivise staying fillies and chasing mares, there are more reasons than ever to breed, buy and race British. Majority funded by the HBLB.

HORSE CARE AT PLUMPTON

At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.

During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Paramedic team responsible for human casualties.

The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.

USE OF SCREENS

It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground. This does not reflect on the severity of any injury, but allows the vet some privacy, and the patient a calm environment in which to make a recovery.

Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse.

All equine care at Plumpton is provided by: Sussex Equine Hospital Billingshurst Rd, Ashington, West Sussex RH20 3BB

MONDO MAN would have been an easier winner of the Imperial Cup but for Caoilin Quinn losing his irons after an awkward landing at the last and there’s a possibility even a 10lb rise could underestimate this 5-y-o who was smart on the Flat in France earlier in his career. Serious Challenge shaped very well in the Morebattle at Kelso and is feared most ahead of Helnwein, who has shown he has what it takes to go close in a good 2m handicap.
