Welcome back to Plumpton for our 7 race card with over £58,000 in prize money.
This Monday is always an important date in the National Hunt calander as it’s the eve before our sports pinicle event of 4 days at Prestbury Park. Today we are pleased to welcome Dragonbet for the very first time to Plumpton. As well as sponsoring 5 of todays races they are leading our Cheltenham preview panel that is taking place in the Final Fence Marquee at 1230pm. Please make your way down there to get some insightful thoughts and no doubt a few special offers for the week ahead.
Our previous raceday was a special day for the racecourse. We were not only able to work with such a special charity in Jamies Farm, but we were able to welcome Her Majesty The Queen to Plumpton. As the patron of Jamies Farm, Plumpton College and the Friends of the South Downs, it was a lovely moment that many of their respective teams were able to meet with Her Majesty.
As well as welcoming Dragonbet I would like to welcome both Mayo Wynne Baxter and family of John Ellis. Mayo Wynne Baxter are exceptionally supportive partners of ours and within the local community with many branches including ones at Lewes, Brighton, East Grinstead and Crawley. John Ellis was a man of the formbook who loved his racing and his family join us today to remember him and celebrate his life.
Our next fixture is on Monday 16th March when we host our Spring raceday whilst no doubt discussing the ups and downs of the previous week. If you are thinking of booking tickets or hospitality then make sure you visit our website or contact one of our team. Don’t forget to put the Plumpton Racecourse Easter Festival in your diaries, which will be held on Sunday 5th April and Monday 6th April, by booking now you will secure our best ticket prices as this is our most popular racing weekend with both tickets and hospitality always in high demand.

As we head into Cheltenham I would like to wish all our trainers and jockeys the best of luck with any runners or rides that they have this week. The Plumpton team have all had their Cheltenham Lucky15 and for more details please see our latest newsletter.

Bit - A piece of metal that sits in the horse’s mouth and is attached to the bridle and reins.
Blinkers - A type of headgear fitted to a horse that limits its field of vision, mainly from each side. Blinkers are designed to help horses concentrate in races.
Boxed in - When a horse cannot obtain a clear run during a race due to other horses being in close proximity.
Bridle - A piece of tack that fits over a horse’s head and to which the bit and reins are attached.
Bumper - Also known as a National Hunt Flat race, this race has no obstacles. Used as a way to give horses race experience before tackling hurdles and fences.
Chase - A race run over fences.
Cheekpieces - A form of headgear which consists of pieces of sheepskin placed on either side of the bridle and performs a similar job as blinkers in helping the horse to concentrate Clerk of the course - The person responsible for the overall management of a racecourse on a raceday.
Fences - The type of obstacle jumped during a chase race.
Furlong - A unit of measurement. A furlong is an eighth of a mile or a little more than 201 meters.
Going - The underfoot conditions at the racecourse.
Going Stick - A device used to measure the underfoot conditions at the racecourse.
Handicap - A type of race in which horses carry different weights depending on their overall rating, which is determined by the handicapper.
Hood - A type of headgear fitted over the horse’s head to cover its ears and muffle the noise of a raceday.
Hurdles - The obstacles jumped during a hurdle race. They are smaller than fences and therefore take less jumping. Sometimes referred to as flights.
Length - The length of a horse from its nose to the start of its tail, and a measurement used to describe the distances between horses at the finish line.

Pulling - A horse who is keen during a race and wants to go faster than its jockey is allowing.
Pushed out - Describes a horse who has gone clear of its rivals in a race after minimal urging from its jockey.
Staying on - A phrase referring to a horse who finished strongly during the closing stages.
Stewards’ inquiry - An inquiry held at the racecourse on a raceday after any given race
Tongue-tie - A strap used to tie down a horse’s tongue to prevent the tongue getting over the bit which affects a horse’s breathing.
Turn of foot - A term to describe marked acceleration during a race.
Under starter’s orders - Before a race, the starter brings the field of horses into order to prepare them for the start of the race.
Weighed in - Every horse in a race has to carry a certain amount of weight. To ensure it does, all jockeys must weight in/out both before and after a race. The ‘weighed in’ announcement made after the race means the result stands.
PIPING ROCK is getting the hang of things over hurdles and appeals the most after three consistent efforts since he debuted under Rules. With the trip and ground suitable, another step forward can see the son of Poet’s World get off the mark. Five Bar Gate has a first-time tonguetie added and, as a previous course winner, he looks a big danger. Catchintsavo is another reliable option to consider.
totewin: Piping Rock
toteeachway: Five Bar Gate
RAP SOUL won with plenty in hand over C&D last month and looks progressive enough to deal with a 12lb rise. Carpe Diem is an obvious threat based what he has shown since reverting to racing under Rules. He should go well if there is enough give in the ground to bring the best out of him, while Lunar Ocean is another to note.
totewin: Rap Soul
toteeachway: Carpe Diem
This is a good opportunity for LORD OF THE GLANCE to gain a first career success. Having posted his best effort yet when a close second at Fakenham, the Alex Hales-trained sevenyear-old won’t need to find much to go one better. As Simon The Seagull and Pink ‘n Purple are both out of the handicap and Kotari hasn’t been seen over hurdles for 452 days, Desert Halo looks the biggest danger.
totewin: Lord Of The Glance
toteeachway: Desert Halo
INFERNO SACREE built on a string of consistent displays when tackling 3m for the first time and getting his head back in front at Taunton. The eight-year-old may well have more to offer over staying distances and can strike again off a 5lb higher mark. Ferret Jeeter won over C&D last time and commands plenty of respect, while Confinentic appears best of the remainder.
totewin: Inferno Sacree
toteeachway: Ferret Jeeter
SCOTTISH KING only went up 4lb for a comfortable success at Market Rasen on his latest outing and a similar kind of performance would make him very hard to beat, especially with all of his rivals having something to prove. Felton Bellevue could prove the main threat if repeating his C&D victory two starts ago, while first-time cheekpieces might aid the cause of Minella Kaiser.
totewin: Scottish King
toteeachway: Felton Bellevue
With plenty of these having questions to answer at the moment, it is hard to oppose LASKO DES OBEAUX. Harry Derham’s gelding has made the frame in all three novice/maiden starts and an opening mark of 112 should be workable. Baltray must not be discounted, despite disappointing last time, while Valadon and Galactic Charm are the pick of the remainder.
totewin: Lasko Des Obeaux
toteeachway: Baltray
OTIE’S FRIEND failed to build on a very promising debut second when seventh at Kempton a couple of weeks ago. However, that wasn’t a poor performance given the strength of the contest and the five-year-old tops the shortlist here. Any market support for newcomer Delgany Second Now would have to be noted, while Blue’s Secret Gem and Silk Mountain are others to note.
totewin: Otie’s Friend

Likeable pair FERRET JEETER and Inferno Sacree are likely to have this between them, the former narrowly preferred given his low-mileage profile, while C&D winner All Authorized hinted at a revival last time.

Handicap debutant LASKO DES OBEAUX is likely to well positioned in a race devoid of pace and with improvement expected for the switch to a handicap/longer trip, this looks a fair chance for him to get off the mark.
