THE RACEHORSE SANCTUARY & REHOMING CENTRE

RACEDAY
MONDAY 3RD NOVEMBER 2025 Official race programme
Our third fixture of the season and I would like to welcome you to The Racehorse Sanctuary Raceday. The Racehorse Sanctuary and Rehoming Centre is based in Pulborough, West Sussex and provides a lifeline for horses who need time to adjust to a life after racing. As one of the leading organisations in this field, its work is vital to thoroughbred welfare and through their rehabilitation, retraining and sanctuary programmes can give ex-racehorses a second chance in life in the form of a number of equine disciplines; hacking, eventing, dressage, showjumping or even as a companion.
We have already had a great start to the season welcoming many thousands of people and seeing some fantastic horses and close finishes. We are sure today will be equally as exciting and I thank you for your continued support.
Today we have 44 runners going to post over 7 races with £97k of prize-money on offer. Our feature on the track today is our fourth race worth £23,825, The Auditel Cost & Carbon Management Challenge Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) which was won by Irish Hill last year beating Mark Of Gold by 1l. Although only 7 horses go to post, this year’s renewal promises to be highly competitive, and we extend our best wishes to all the horses and connections not only in this race, but across the entire day’s card.
I would like to thank today’s sponsors, The Racehorse Sanctuary, Extech, Friend and Family of Roy Farley, Auditel, Friends and Family of John Weight, BookedIT and Weatherbys along with our Partners; Southern Cranes and Access Ltd, BetGoodwin and Kalm Kitchen for their tremendous support for the 2025/26 Season.
Our next fixture is the Charlotte Savill Raceday on Monday, 17th November 2025. This is a particularly poignant occasion, held in memory of Charlotte Savill, daughter of our Chairman and Owner, Peter Savill. The day also aims to raise awareness of Fibrolamellar Liver Cancer (FLC) a rare and aggressive disease that primarily affects young people. Throughout the day, guests will have the chance to take part in a silent auction, with opportunities to bid for and win some fantastic items. There will also be the Diamond Dip, where one lucky winner will take home a real diamond. Gates will open at 11:30 am, and we look forward to welcoming you to what promises to be a special and meaningful raceday.
This December, we’re hosting two festive raceday fixtures, both of which are always hugely popular. If you’re considering hospitality for Monday, 1st December, we highly recommend getting in touch with our team as soon as possible to avoid disappointment our Monday, 15th December fixture is already sold out.
Tickets start from £19 and can be purchased online at www.plumptonracecourse.co.uk.

Have a great day.
Best wishes

Craig Staddon Chief Executive

Bit - A piece of metal that sits in the horse’s mouth and is attached to the bridle and reins.
Blinkers - A type of headgear fitted to a horse that limits its field of vision, mainly from each side. Blinkers are designed to help horses concentrate in races.
Boxed in - When a horse cannot obtain a clear run during a race due to other horses being in close proximity.
Bridle - A piece of tack that fits over a horse’s head and to which the bit and reins are attached.
Bumper - Also known as a National Hunt Flat race, this race has no obstacles. Used as a way to give horses race experience before tackling hurdles and fences.
Chase - A race run over fences.
Cheekpieces - A form of headgear which consists of pieces of sheepskin placed on either side of the bridle and performs a similar job as blinkers in helping the horse to concentrate.
Clerk of the course - The person responsible for the overall management of a racecourse on a raceday.
Fences - The type of obstacle jumped during a chase race.
Furlong - A unit of measurement. A furlong is an eighth of a mile or a little more than 201 meters.
Going - The underfoot conditions at the racecourse.
Going Stick - A device used to measure the underfoot conditions at the racecourse.
Handicap - A type of race in which horses carry different weights depending on their overall rating, which is determined by the handicapper.
Hood - A type of headgear fitted over the horse’s head to cover its ears and muffle the noise of a raceday.
Hurdles - The obstacles jumped during a hurdle race. They are smaller than fences and therefore take less jumping. Sometimes referred to as flights.
Length - The length of a horse from its nose to the start of its tail, and a measurement used to describe the distances between horses at the finish line
Maiden - A horse who has yet to win a race.
Neck - A measurement used to describe a winning margin in a close finish.

Pulled up - A horse who is brought to a halt during a race by its jockey.
Pulling - A horse who is keen during a race and wants to go faster than its jockey is allowing.
Pushed out - Describes a horse who has gone clear of its rivals in a race after minimal urging from its jockey.
Staying on - A phrase referring to a horse who finished strongly during the closing stages.
Stewards’ inquiry - An inquiry held at the racecourse on a raceday after any given race.
Tongue-tie - A strap used to tie down a horse’s tongue to prevent the tongue getting over the bit which affects a horse’s breathing.
Turn of foot - A term to describe marked acceleration during a race.
Under starter’s orders - Before a race, the starter brings the field of horses into order to prepare them for the start of the race.
Weighed in - Every horse in a race has to carry a certain amount of weight. To ensure it does, all jockeys must weight in/out both before and after a race. The ‘weighed in’ announcement made after the race means the result stands.

Gone Country could prove a useful recruit for Nick Gifford, but he hasn’t run since a point-topoint second in March and may be vulnerable to a race-fit opponent. JAMADA fits the bill for the in-form Olly Murphy yard after finishing second at Sedgefield on his hurdling bow and, if he jumps better, this could be his to lose. Poet Laureate showed promise when third at Worcester and may prove the biggest danger to the selection, assuming improvement. totewin: Jamada toteeachway: Poet Laureate
Touquet has moved from Paul Nicholls to Nick Gifford since pulling up at Chepstow and could go well if he takes to fences. Strolling Along should appreciate a drop in trip after pulling too hard over 2m7f at Bangor in May. If he is given his head, he could prove hard to catch on his chasing debut but the consistent TRAVELING SOLDIER is preferred. In the frame in five of his six chases, with a win at Market Rasen, he might put his experience advantage to good use. totewin: Traveling Soldier
toteeachway: Strolling Along
Point-to-point winner Daylatedollarshort looks an interesting recruit for Olly Murphy, but he did only prevail by a neck when keeping on well and his speed will be tested. ORDER OF JUSTICE weakened late on after pulling too hard when second at Fakenham but if Tom Cannon can get her to settle, she looks the likeliest winner with experience now on her side. Maldini Milano is another to consider if first-time cheekpieces help.
totewin: Order Of Justice
toteeachway: Daylatedollarshort
It took nine attempts for WALK ON HIGH to open his account over timber but he wasted no time in recording a second, which came at Uttoxeter in May. Harry Fry’s charge has more to do back in a handicap, but this trip could be the key to him and there should be more to come. Loverdose progressed at a rate of knots last term and is entitled to the utmost respect, as is Irish Hill, who claimed top honours in this 12 months ago.
totewin: Walk On High
toteeachway: Loverdose
Shantou Lucky’s winning run came to an end at Southwell last month and although he had an excuse, stablemate IVANE looks the safest option. The seven-year-old accounted for a progressive chaser when completing a double at Sedgefield and with the irrepressible Sean Bowen back aboard, he can defy a further 6lb rise. Jeffery’s Cross didn’t run too badly at Fontwell, but will need more to come out on top.
totewin: Ivane
toteeachway: Shantou Lucky
JOREBEL has enjoyed a fine autumn so far, with a trio of victories including over further at Worcester last time, and a 6lb rise doesn’t appear likely to stop Chris Gordon’s charge from taking another step forward. Mistress Emma shaped with some promise on both hurdle outings last season and is expected to be in the mix. Others to note are Poncho and Fourtowns.
totewin: Jorebel
toteeachway: Mistress Emma
JACKSTELL appears to have improved for a summer break, with Jamie Snowden’s gelding now a dual winner over hurdles. A smooth display at Warwick was backed up under a penalty at Hereford and the switch to handicapping promises to see him in an even better light. The Secret Pearl was in front when falling at the last at Fontwell in May. She is capable of making an impact, while Sedgefield winner Captain Cool isn’t one to discount. totewin: Jackstell toteeachway: The Secret Pearl

The Great British Bonus (GBB) incentivises and rewards with breeding, buying and racing of British-bred fillies by paying out bonuses of up to £100,000 per filly. And now with GBBPlus to further incentivise staying fillies and chasing mares, there are more reasons than ever to breed, buy and race British. Majority funded by the HBLB.
At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.
During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Paramedic team responsible for human casualties.
The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.

Having won his point in the spring, DAYLATEDOLLARSHORT has moved to Olly Murphy so hopes are high that he can follow up. Cheekpieces may help Maldini Milano focus but he can’t be supported with confidence at present, so General Briar and Order of Justice are feared most.

It is an absolute pleasure to be sponsoring the Weatherbys & Birdie Calendars Handicap Hurdle at Plumpton this afternoon, a Class 4 event staged over an extended two-and-a-halfmiles.
Chris Gordon landed this contest two years ago with the consistent Baddesleyandreliesonthesimilarly consistent Jefe Triunfo here. A winnerofatwo-milemaidenhurdle atWarwickinJune,thesix-year-old was a good third in the Fixed Brush Hurdle Series Final at Worcester on his penultimate start. He was a little disappointing on his last start at Kempton but has been dropped 2lbsandisworthanotherchanceat thissortoftrip.
The improving Jackstell is likely to be popular in the market as he chases the hattrick for Jamie Snowden here.
The No Risk At All gelding showed improved form on reappearance to get off the mark over hurdles in a novice event at Warwick before stayingonstronglytotakeasimilar event at Hereford last time. He makes his handicap debut from a potentially lenient opening mark of 111 and did show form over further lastseason, sothetripshouldprove noissue.
Jennie Candlish’s Captain Cool is the other last-time-out winner in the five-runner field, having made all to success from a mark of 99 at Sedgefieldwhenlastseen.Thefiveyear-old has been raised 5lb for that victory and, with just the four career hurdle starts under his belt, remains with potential for further improvement. A likely pace angle in therace, heshouldalsobesuitedby thestepbackupintrip.
Alex Hales’ TheSecretPearl was an extremely determined winner of a maiden hurdle at Market Rasen on her final start of the last campaign, suggesting she would appreciate a longer trip that day. The six-yearold looked to hold every chance of going close on return at Fontwell before falling two out and, if none theworstforthatfall, isanintriguing handicapdebutantfromanopening markof103.
FreddieMitchelltakestherideaboard the top-weighted Everyonesgame, taking off a handy 5lbs, and the eight-year-old holds an experience edge over this field. Andy Irvine’s gelding makes his seasonal return here and is beginning to look wellhandicapped, now 14lbs below his last winning mark. That victory came at Worcester, over two years agobackin2023,however.
