Plumpton Racecard - Monday 16th March

MONDAY 16TH MARCH 2026

WELCOME

Welcome to Plumpton for our Spring Raceday

Welcome back to Plumpton for our seven-race card featuring over £58,000 in prize money.

This Monday always feels a little like the calm after the storm for National Hunt followers. I am sure there will be many conversations taking place around the course about the action from last week at Prestbury Park, where we saw some tremendous racing.

From a Plumpton perspective, it was fantastic to see Mondo Man win the Imperial Cup for the Moore’s at Sandown on the Saturday before Cheltenham. Although connections will be disappointed not to have made the cut for the County Hurdle, there will certainly be other big days ahead, namely on the Flat at Royal Ascot this June!

Looking back to Cheltenham, Chris Gordon’s Bass Hunter ran a brilliant race in the Bumper to finish third, while Salver, for the Moore’s, was a fast-finishing third in the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase. With an eye on horses that have previously run at Plumpton, we were particularly pleased to see Martador win the Grand Annual at odds of 66-1. Martador ran in the 2025 Sussex Champion Chase here at Plumpton.

Turning back to today, we welcome back some of our regular partners. Our friends at More Radio sponsor our opening race, and Southern Cranes and Access Ltd continue their long-standing association with Plumpton by sponsoring two races this afternoon. I would also like to thank Weatherbys for their continued support, and Kalm Club, our catering partners, who are doing such a fantastic job here at the racecourse.

Last, but certainly not least, we welcome William Henry Robinson and his family to Plumpton today. This visit marks a very special occasion, as William has now visited every racecourse in the UK. A tremendous achievement, congratulations Sir.

Our next meetings take place over Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. Regular racegoerswillknowthesearethetwobusiestdaysofourseason, whenwewelcome many families and new visitors to the racecourse. If you are thinking of booking tickets or hospitality, please make sure you visit our website or speak to a member of our team. By booking early, you will secure our best prices for what is always our most popular racing weekend.

Have a lovely day at Plumpton, Heart Of Our Community.

Pulling - A horse who is keen during a race and wants to go faster than its jockey is allowing.

Pushed out - Describes a horse who has gone clear of its rivals in a race after minimal urging from its jockey.

Staying on - A phrase referring to a horse who finished strongly during the closing stages.

Stewards’ inquiry - An inquiry held at the racecourse on a raceday after any given race.

ESCORT’KHEOPS filled second place in a similar event to this at Southwell a month ago and the six-year-old sets the standard based on that performance. Viscountess Nelson was a winner between the flags and she was not disgraced when fourth in a Huntingdon bumper on her Rules debut in December. With that in mind, she could prove to be the main threat, ahead of Our Amigo and Lola De Magny.

totewin: Escort’kheops

toteeachway: Viscountess Nelson

KOOL KID returned to winning ways in a handicap hurdle at this venue three weeks ago and a 5lb rise for that success may not be enough to stop him from following up, despite the switch to fences. Park Annonciade was a close third at Ludlow when last seen and is likely to be in the mix once again, while Delpotro completes the shortlist.

totewin: Kool Kid

toteeachway: Park Annonciade

RISK IT ALL has filled second place on two of his last three starts and this appears to be an ideal opportunity for the five-year-old to go one better. That said, Kill The Groove was a neck second over C&D two starts ago and she may benefit from the first-time application of cheekpieces. Kingston Bresil edges out My Lovely Horse to be best of the rest.

totewin: Risk It All

toteeachway: Kill The Groove

Although Al Sayah ended last year’s campaign with a respectable fourth at Newton Abbot, the drop back in distance on her return to action may prove on the sharp side. With that in mind, this could be battled out between Ludlow fourth Dramatic Encore and LA MARQUISE, with preference for the latter. Jamie Snowden’s mare arrives on the back of a fair third at Wetherby and has been dropped 1lb.

totewin: La Marquise

toteeachway: Dramatic Encore

FERRET JEETER did little wrong when finishing second to a resurgent rival over timber here recently and he could take all of the beating if taking to fences. David Dennis has his stable in fine form at present and Huntingdon scorer Imperial Pride isn’t taken lightly, while an improved performance from School For Scandal wouldn’t be a surprise on his return to a sounder surface.

totewin: Ferret Jeeter

toteeachway: Imperial Pride

Having regained the winning thread at Taunton recently with something in hand, it’s difficult to look beyond the unpenalised TARITINO. The six-year-old should take all of the beating if over those exertions, with this step up in distance unlikely to inconvenience him. Eliza Dolittle is no back number after last month’s C&D victory and she can put up most resistance to the selection, ahead of Ghasham.

totewin: Taritino

toteeachway: Eliza Dolittle

Having posted two solid runner-up efforts under Rules, Double The Dance is likely to give another good account. The five-year-old isn’t easily dismissed, but SECRET DES LUNE edges the vote in receipt of 7lb. Ben Clarke’s mare boasts a similar profile and her experience from a previous second at this venue could prove decisive. Newcomers Getmyfriend and Luna Marquesa command a betting check.

It could be worth taking a chance on hurdle debutante VISCOUNTESS NELSON who shaped as though in need of this sort of test when fourth on bumper debut. She’s less exposed than consistent Escort’kheops, who looks the most solid of those with hurdles experience, while any market confidence behind returning Our Amigo would be significant.

GBB NOTICE

The Great British Bonus (GBB) incentivises and rewards with breeding, buying and racing of British-bred fillies by paying out bonuses of up to £100,000 per filly. And now with GBBPlus to further incentivise staying fillies and chasing mares, there are more reasons than ever to breed, buy and race British. Majority funded by the HBLB.

THE PARADE RING IS FOR HORSES ENTRY FOR AUTHORISED PERSONNEL ONLY

HBLB

The Horserace Betting Levy Board prize fund schemes provide for the estimated inclusion of £235,873 in ratecard and incremental prize money at this racecourse from 1st January to 27th March 2026.

HORSE CARE AT PLUMPTON

At every race meeting at Plumpton there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.

During a race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend a casualty in the same response time as the Paramedic team responsible for human casualties. The third vet is based at the Stable Yard where a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.

Weights, Pedigrees, Trainers’ Names, Descriptions, Performances and Values of Races have been added for the convenience of the public, but are subject to alteration. All horses must parade in the Parade Ring except by permission of the Stewards, but in all cases must pass through the Ring on the way to the post.

Pioneering equine vision research showed the clarity of jumps could be improved by changing markers from orange to white. So that’s what we did. horsepwr.co.uk

Race preview from Weatherbys

We are delighted to be sponsoring the fifth race on today’s card, the Weatherbys nhstallions.co.uk Handicap Chase, where seven runnersgotopost.

The weights are headed by Ferret Jeeter who was last seen finishing second over course and distance. Thenine-year-oldhasanexcellent recordatPlumpton, withafirstand secondtohisnameandoughttogo welloncemorefromanunchanged mark for Anthony Honeyball. West Orchard found only one too good for him when beaten a short head by The Long Point at Wincanton. All his best form has come on a sounder surface, so today’s race shouldplaytohisstrengths.Hewas given 2lb by the handicapper for thateffortbutfurtherimprovement shouldn’tberuledout.

Inedit De Mee has been fitted with first time cheekpeices and tongue tie after a disappointing effort at Fontwellwhenwellbeaten.Thatwas a step back from a previous effort atSouthwellwherehefinishedthird andareturntothatformcouldsee himrunwellfromareducedmark.

Bottom weight Ballygelly was leadingthefieldbeforeanuntimely unseat four fences from the finish. She was returning from a 188day break on that occasion and providing that hasn’t knocked her confidence then she would rate as one of the leading players for trainerEmma-JaneBishop.

Illogical logic has been running with plenty of credit, finishing placedinhislastthreeoutings. The consistenteight-year-oldisproven over the distance and a return to this company may well see him back in the winners’ enclosure for ChristianWilliamsandJackTudor.

School For Scandal isn’t getting any younger at the age of eleven but the handicapper has given him a chance at the weights after a couple of moderate efforts. He’s now2lbbelowhislastwinningmark and may play a part in the finish if recapturing some of his older form.ImperialPridecompletes the fieldforDavidDennis.Heisthesole runner in the field to have won last time out and as such rates as one oftheleadingplayers.
