ROYAL ASCOT PROVIDES PLENTY OF POINTERS WITH THREE WEEKS UNTIL THE AL BASTI EQUIWORLD, DUBAI JULY CUP
While the eyes of the racing world have been firmly focused on Royal Ascot this week, the countdown is well and truly on for Newmarket’s very own summer spectacular, the Debenhams July Festival, which takes place over three days from Thursday 9th July to Saturday 11th July inclusive.
Exactly three weeks from today, the Debenhams July Festival reaches its climax with the Group One Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai July Cup. Staged over six furlongs and with a record total prize fund of £800,000 in 2026, the race was first staged in 1876 and will be contested for the 146th time this year
One horse who emerged as a clear contender for the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai July Cup at Royal Ascot earlier this week was Mission Central, who came with a strong late run to win the five-furlong Group One King Charles III Stakes on Tuesday. Seemingly at home over five or six furlongs, the son of No Nay Never could attempt to give his trainer Aidan O’Brien a record-extending sixth July Cup success following on from Stravinsky (1999), Mozart (2001), Starspangledbanner (2010), US Navy Flag (2018) and Ten Sovereigns (2019)
The Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai July Cup offers the first opportunity of the season for three-year-old sprinters to take on older rivals at Group One level over six furlongs 13 of the 22 three-year-olds declared to run in yesterday’s Group One Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot also hold entries in the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai July Cup including Venetian Sun, who begun yesterday as the bookmakers’ clear favourite for Newmarket. Since it was inaugurated in 2015, two Commonwealth Cup contenders have gone on to July Cup success - Muhaarar (2015) and Shaquille (2023)
Today’s highlight at Royal Ascot is the Group One Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes over six furlongs for four-year-olds and upwards. With no less than 14 of the 19 declared runners also holding entries in the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai July Cup, it is sure to throw up some valuable clues. Among those entered in both races are leading Australian sprinters Joliestar and Overpass, plus Lugal and Satono Reve from Japan. It is 26 years since Agnes World captured the July Cup, becoming the first Japanese-trained horse to win a race in the UK

In the event of abandonment before racing, or up to the ‘Weighed-in’ of the first race, there will be a full refund of badge, ticket and carparkingcosts.Intheeventofabandonment after the ‘Weighed-in’ of the first race, up to the ‘Weighed-in’ of the third race there will be a 50% refund of the badge and car parking costs. In the event of abandonment thereafter there will be no refunds. No cash refunds to be paid on the day.

So wear what feels right for you and will keep you feeling your best from start to finish, whatever the weather. Here’s some other useful tips and advice for making sure your time with us is as memorable as possible.
Fancy dress can often add colour and fun to our racedays, but please avoid inappropriate or offensive outfits, as anything deemed vulgar or derogatory may be refused entry.
We love other sports as much as anyone, but showing allegiance to a favourite club can sometimes appear antagonistic So, to keep things simple, please refrain from wearing team kits when attending one of our racedays.
Only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets in the course of their business. Any individuals found contravening these conditions will be evicted. Members of the public may not use two-way radios, scanning receivers etc, for any purpose at the racecourse.
EMERGENCY NOTICE
In an event of an emergency please be guided by our security stewards and by messages you will see and hear around the racecourse We would advise that you keep your personal belongings with you at all times. In the event of an evacuation please do as requested by Newmarket Racecourses Management and security staff They will direct you to a safe place. Do not attempt to regain access to buildings

PARADE RING ACCESS
In the interests of safety, access to the parade ring is strictly limited to Owners and Trainers with runners in the race, British Horseracing Authority Officials and Racecourse Officials who are on duty at the meeting and Emergency Service Personnel. Those people holding badges or accreditation that allow access to the Parade Ring are asked to refrain from entering this area unless it is absolutely necessary in the course of their business.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE
The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Newmarket Racecourses employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
