WELCOME TO
As we welcome you back to the Rowley Mile for Cesarewitch Trial Day, anticipation is already building ahead of one of the autumn’s great staying tests. Today’s feature, the Turners Cesarewitch Trial, offers connections a crucial opportunity to fine-tune their preparations for next month’s historic Cesarewitch Handicap. The Cesarewitch itself is one of the most demanding and prestigious staying handicaps in the British calendar, and this afternoon’s trial has a strong record of highlighting horses capable of making their mark in that marathon contest. Stamina, determination and tactical judgement are always to the fore, and today’s runners will be looking to prove they possess those qualities in abundance. After the last race we will also be hosting the annual Trainer’s Race. This is very much a fan favourite and does a wonderful job raising money for the Newmarket Housing Trust, who help support members of the racing community find housing. We are delighted to once again welcome Turners as sponsor of today’s card and thank them for their valued support of this important fixture. We would also like to thank Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai for their continued sponsorship of our Owners’ and Trainers’ facility. Autumn racing on the Rowley Mile has its own distinctive atmosphere - competitive fields, progressive performers and the sense of major prizes just over the horizon. Whether you are studying potential Cesarewitch contenders or simply enjoying a day’s racing in Newmarket, we are delighted to have you with us. On behalf of everyone at Newmarket Racecourses, I wish all owners, trainers and jockeys the very best of luck today. Thank you to our racegoers for your valued support - we hope you enjoy a thoroughly competitive afternoon of racing. Best wishes, Sophie Able Managing Director, Newmarket and Lambourn Hub

The market should prove highly revealing but Charlie Appleby has an excellent recent record in this and his Dubawi filly FLOWER SHOW is taken to build on a promising debut third at Sandown and come out on top. We look forward to welcoming you through the doors and sharing in everything this exciting new space has to offer.
Looking ahead to next weeks racing at the Cambridgeshire Meeting Thursday 24th September - Tattersalls Stakes (Group 3) The highlight of day one of the Cambridgeshire Meeting is the Group Three Tattersalls Stakes. The registered title of the seven-furlong contest for two-year-old colts and geldings is the Somerville Tattersall Stakes in remembrance of Somerville Tattersall (1863–1942), a senior partner of Tattersalls bloodstock auctioneers. First staged in 1962, the contest can sometimes serve as a trial for the Group One Darley Dewhurst Stakes over the same course and distance on Dubai Future Champions Day in October. Wind And Wuthering (1981), Grand Lodge (1993) and Milk It Mick (2003) all landed the Tattersalls Stakes prior to going on to Dewhurst success.
Modern Games
Godolphin’s Modern Games is the best winner of recent years. Following his success in 2021, he went on to glory later that year in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Del Mar, USA. He scored three times at the highest level in 2022 with wins in the French 2,000 Guineas, Woodbine Mile and Breeders’ Cup Mile, while in 2023 he added a further Group One victory to his CV when taking the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury.
The late Sir Henry Cecil trained a record five winners of the Tattersalls Stakes. Aidan O’Brien and Charlie Appleby leading the way among current jockeys with three wins each. Similarly, the all-time leading jockey in the contest is the late Pat Eddery with six successes. Ryan Moore and William Buick are the winning-most present riders, with three victories apiece.
Friday 25th September - Betway Joel Stakes (Group 2) Today’s feature contest, the Group Two Betway Joel Stakes, was established in 1987. It was initially called the Main Reef Stakes and staged over 10 furlongs for three-year-olds. It was reduced in distance from 10 furlongs to a mile in 1989 and in the same year was opened up to older horses. In 1994 it was renamed the Joel Stakes in honour of the late Jim Joel (1894-1992), one of the great owner-breeders of the 20th century and one of only four people to have owned the winner of Britain’s two most famous races - the Derby (Royal Palace, 1967) and Grand National (Maori Venture, 1987). A Listed race from 1991, it was upgraded to Group Three status in 2003 and further elevated to Group Two level in 2011. The Joel Stakes has had two dual winners during its history – Mutasaabeq (2022, 2023) and Benbatl (2019, 2021). Oisin Murphy is the most successful jockey with four wins courtesy of Beat The Bank (2017), Benbatl (2019,2021) and Kameko (2020). Among trainers, the now-retired Sir Michael Stoute and Saeed bin Suroor share top honours with a quartet of winners each. Stoute struck gold with Sabotage (1989), Rob Roy (2005), Confront (2009) and Mustashry (2018), while bin Suroor’s winners were Satchem (2006), Creachadoir (2007) and Benbatl (2019, 2021). 17

The Newmarket Housing Trust has enjoyed another busy and exciting year as we continue to tackle one of the greatest challenges facing our industry: providing high-quality, affordable accommodation for racing staff. This summer marked a major milestone with the start of construction on a new 24-bed Hall of Residence at the British Racing School. This important project will provide modern accommodation for young people beginning their careers in racing, helping to remove one of the key barriers to entering the sport and by supporting this race and the Weekend you are helping in supporting the lifeblood of our support. The development has only been possible thanks to the generosity of our supporters, particularly the significant contribution from the John Pearce Foundation and the outstanding support generated through Newmarket A F U N D AY O U T F O R A L L T H E FA M I LY ! Open Weekend. Their commitment is helping to create opportunities for the next generation of racing professionals. While the Hall of Residence is a significant achievement, it is only the first step in a much bigger vision. The Trust’s ambition is to create a portfolio of high-quality homes that support racing people throughout their lives and careers, from new entrants to the industry through to families and long-serving members of the racing community. Affordable housing is about far more than bricks and mortar. It helps attract and retain talented people, strengthens our local community, and ensures that Newmarket remains the global headquarters of horseracing for generations to come. On behalf of the Newmarket Housing Trust, the trainers of Newmarket and the wider racing community, thank you to everyone who has supported our work. Your generosity is helping us invest not only in buildings, but in the people who are the lifeblood of our sport.
YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS
By joining us today, bidding in the charity auction, or attending the Newmarket Open Weekend, you’re helping to turn this vision into reality. Every contribution brings us one step closer to a future where all racing staff have access to safe, suitable housing. Thank you once again for your support — together, we are building something that will benefit the racing community for generations to come.

CONDITIONS OF RACECOURSE
ENTRY
TO
Management reserves the right to refuse admission to, or eject from, the racecourse any person without assigning a reason. In particular, any instance of unruly behaviour, such as drunkenness, abusive conduct, singing or shouting, shall entitle the Racecourse Executive to expel the offending racegoer without prior notice. Racegoers must abide by any regulations including the observance of designated non-drinking areas. At Newmarket Racecourses we believe racing should be enjoyed by anyone and everyone. And one thing is certainly true, the more relaxed and comfortable we feel, the more likely we are to have a great time. So that’s why we’ve created one very simple piece of guidance, to come “dressed to feel your best”. We’re all unique, and no more so than in our sense of style and comfort. For some, wearing a nice sweatshirt, pair of jeans and clean trainers is what makes them feel confident and at-ease. For others, they might prefer to turn heads with a sharp suit or glamorous dress and high heels, particularly for one of our big race meetings. But whatever your tastes, the most important thing when choosing your outfit is, of course, comfort and confidence. So wear what feels right for you and will keep you feeling your best from start to finish, whatever the weather. Here’s some other useful tips and advice for making sure your time with us is as memorable as possible. Fancy dress can often add colour and fun to our racedays, but please avoid inappropriate or offensive outfits, as anything deemed vulgar or derogatory may be refused entry. We love other sports as much as anyone, but showing allegiance to a favourite club can sometimes appear antagonistic. So, to keep things simple, please refrain from wearing team kits when attending one of our racedays.
Only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets in the course of their business. Any individuals found contravening these conditions will be evicted. Members of the public may not use two-way radios, scanning receivers etc, for any purpose at the racecourse.
EMERGENCY NOTICE In an event of an emergency please be guided by our security stewards and by messages you will see and hear around the racecourse. We would advise that you keep your personal belongings with you at all times. In the event of an evacuation please do as requested by Newmarket Racecourses Management and security staff. They will direct you to a safe place. Do not attempt to regain access to buildings.
FEEDBACK We are always pleased to hear from our customers and are grateful for any feedback you can provide about your visit today. There are short contact forms available online at thejockeyclub.co.uk/ newmarket and we value your comments.
THE COURSE IS FOR HORSES Please keep off the track. The track is for horses, their jockeys and stable staff, please keep them and yourselves safe by remaining inside the barriers. Anyone trespassing on the track will be: Liable to arrest and prosecution; Ejected immediately; Banned from all future Newmarket race meetings; May face a nationwide racecourse ban.
HEALTH AND SAFETY NOTICE The Racecourse would be grateful if you would observe all Health & Safety requirements whilst you are at Newmarket Racecourses. We would request that only those that are disabled use the disabled viewing area and that parents keep a close eye on all children and prevent them from climbing the running rails and getting on to the actual racecourse. We would also like to remind racegoers that we do have a first aid room. Should anyone require any assistance please speak to the nearest steward.
IMPORTANT
NOTICES
NOTICES Weights, Pedigrees, Trainers’ Names, Descriptions, Performances and Values of races have been added for the convenience of the Public, but are subject to alteration. All horses must parade in the Parade Ring except by permission of the Stewards, but in all cases must pass through the Ring on the way to the Post.
PARADE RING ACCESS In the interests of safety, access to the parade ring is strictly limited to Owners and Trainers with runners in the race, British Horseracing Authority Officials and Racecourse Officials who are on duty at the meeting and Emergency Service Personnel. Those people holding badges or accreditation that allow access to the Parade Ring are asked to refrain from entering this area unless it is absolutely necessary in the course of their business.
PHOTOGRAPHY Racegoers may take photographs for private purposes in the public enclosures. Under no circumstances may photographs taken on the racecourse be used for publication without prior accreditation being obtained. Flash photography is not permitted anywhere in the Parade Ring or Winner’s Enclosure areas, or anywhere in the close vicinity of horses. The official photographer is John Hoy. HBLB PRIZE MONEY The Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB) has allocated £77.1m in prizemoney for 2026. Since 2000 HBLB has invested £1.5bn in prize money to support the British horseracing industry.
RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses deliver these standards. In addition Newmarket Racecourses employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey. If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
