How To Use:

Newbury Racecourse is delighted to offer all racegoers free use of our Wi-Fi service.

Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to our National Racehorse Week & Community Raceday.

To begin, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our generous sponsors: Pump Technology, Home-Start, Irish Thoroughbred Marketing, Venture Security, Venatour, and Highclere Castle Gin.

Today is a special occasion with a wide range of activities taking place on-site in support of various community and industry initiatives. We’re proud to support National Racehorse Week, and in celebration, we’ve renamed today’s fixture and are championing the initiative by hosting our equine ambassador, Mahlervous, and his Shetland companion, Gladys, in partnership with Greatwood Charity. These four-legged ambassadors will be available for a meet-and-greet with racegoers until the first race.

Our 2025 charity partner, Swings and Smiles, will also be joining us today, alongside families and friends from local schools and community groups. Autism in Racing will be in attendance as well, providing both a fully equipped mobile sensory unit and a Changing Places facility.

We’re also thrilled to welcome Tom Dunlop, 19, who will be completing his marathon charity bike ride here today. Over the past month, Tom has cycled more than 2,600 miles, visiting every racecourse in Great Britain to raise funds for the Injured Jockeys Fund and Diverse Abilities, a Dorset-based disability charity. Racegoers are invited to join Racecourse staff in celebrating Tom’s incredible achievement as he crosses the finish line at 3:35pm next to the Parade Ring. A donation link is included in this racecard for those who wish to support Tom’s inspiring journey.

Special thanks go to today’s supporters, Pump Technology, Apple Print & Creative, Moonraker Disco and Events, and Levy, for their generous contributions to the charitable and community initiatives taking place.

An hour before racing, we’ll stage the first of two pony races, starting with the 138cm ponies over six furlongs, followed by 148cm ponies over the straight mile. Pony racing provides a fantastic platform for future jockeys, with riders like Billy Loughnane having enjoyed success before going on to be crowned Champion Apprentice.

Don’t forget to stop by Filly’s after the last race for this evening’s Pump It Up After Party!

To round off our biggest year of music, BRIT Award-winner James Bay will take to the stage on Saturday 20th September as part of the Dubai Duty Free International Weekend. Discounted tickets are available until tomorrow (Fri 29th Aug) at 11:59pm. We’re also excited to announce the return of our Christmas parties, taking place on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th December Availability is limited, so if you’re looking for a unique, themed venue for your festive celebrations, we’ve got you covered. Visit our website for more details.

Finally, thank you to all our racegoers for joining us today. We hope you have a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and look forward to welcoming you back on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th September for the Dubai Duty Free International Weekend, featuring James Bay live after racing.

Newbury Racecourse

Thank You to Today’s Race Sponsors

19 year old Tom Dunlop is cycling 2,600 miles across all UK racecourses raising vital funds for two charities. Your donation helps Diverse Abilities support children and adults with disabilities, and the Injured Jockeys Fund provide medical, pastoral and financial assistance.

How To Bet

There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:

1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.

2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:

• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.

• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.

• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!

3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.

4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.

5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!

6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.

There are plenty of interesting newcomers in opposition though, so the betting will likely prove the best guide as to the biggest threat, with Mojito and Splish Splash perhaps the most appealing types on paper.
