How To Use:

Newbury Racecourse is delighted to offer all racegoers free use of our Wi-Fi service.

Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to the second day of the BetVictor Flat Finale featuring Oktoberfest.

To start, I’d like to extend a sincere thank you to our sponsors: European Breeders Fund, Grundon, Hazell & Jefferies, D&H, the family and friends of Tony Penny and our long-standing title partner for the weekend, BetVictor. We kick off the day’s black type races with the D&H Racing Stakes, registered as the Radley Stakes, a Listed race for two-year-old fillies over seven furlongs. This contest often serves as a springboard for promising juveniles heading into their three-year-old campaigns.

Later in the afternoon, the spotlight shifts to the BetVictor Horris Hill. This Group 3 race at 3:10pm for two-year-old colts and geldings, also over seven furlongs, features a compact but high-quality field of seven runners. With £55,000 in prize money, it’s a key opportunity for young horses to secure black type status before the season wraps up

Rounding off the trio of racing highlights is the Group 3 BetVictor St Simon Stakes. Traditionally run on soft autumn ground, this race is a true test of stamina and class. Course specialists Al Aasy and Hamish, both trained by William Haggas, return in search of another victory under their preferred conditions.

If you haven’t already, make sure you visit the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand, where we’re thrilled to welcome back Oktoberfest Expect a full Bavarian experience with traditional food, a wide selection of drinks, and lively sets from our oompah band throughout the day - and don’t rush off after the last race, as we have the official oompah after party!

Looking ahead, it’s not long until the Jumps season arrives and we’re excited to bring you the Coral Gold Cup weekend across Friday 28th & Saturday 29th November. The bumper two-day meeting features a host of exhilarating racing - including the prestigious £250,000 Coral Gold Cup – as well as live music, free to use outdoor attractions, two big after parties and much more. If you’re planning to join us for the historic weekend, make sure you secure your tickets before the Early Bird deadline on Friday 31st October

With the curtain coming down on the Flat season it’s also nearly time for tickets to 2026’s racing action to go on sale. 2026 tickets will be released for general sale on Thursday 13th November, but you can get early access by registering for priority – simply scan the QR code on the back cover to jump the queue. As always, Newbury Members get first access to tickets with Members able to secure the 2026 tickets they’d like for friends and family from Tuesday 28th October

As well as all the racing to look forward to, Newbury’s also the perfect place for a Christmas celebration. Our party nights are proving popular – with new dates added due to demand – and if you’re looking for a unique venue for your festive celebrations you might be in luck – take a look at page 32 for more details. Finally, thank you to all our racegoers for joining us today. We hope you have a fantastic afternoon and look forward to welcoming you back for the BetVictor Jumps Season Opener on Thursday 6th November

How To Bet

There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:

1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.

2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:

• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.

• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.

• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!

3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.

4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.

5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!

6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.

Race Summary: The progressive STELLAR SUNRISE can be expected to take this step up in class in his stride on the back of a decisive display in a valuable nursery at the York Ebor meeting. There’s substance to that form (the second has since scored in listed company) and the Space Blues colt shades preference ahead of Time To Turn, who struggled in a French Group 1 last time, but he was on the up prior to that. CELEBRATING TONY’S BIRTHDAY MILESTONE

Today’s race is proudly named in celebration of Tony Penny’s 50th Birthday.

Tony grew up and has lived most of his life in Newbury and is a keen fan of horse racing and here at Newbury Racecourse in particular, where he is an annual member. His passion has also taken him to watch racing in Ireland, France, the USA and even in the snow in Switzerland! In recent years he has also ventured into racehorse ownership through syndicate membership: while he has been fortunate to see them win elsewhere, he would dearly love to have a winner here on his home track!

Tony’s family is delighted to sponsor today’s race and join with his friends and relatives here today – some travelling from overseas – to celebrate the occasion with him and to wish him a very happy 50th birthday.
