How To Use:

Newbury Racecourse is delighted to offer all racegoers free use of our Wi-Fi service.

A very warm welcome to Coral Long Distance Hurdle Day.
This weekend’s racing promises to be as competitive as ever, with the Coral Long Distance Hurdle – today’s feature race - one to look forward to before the muchloved £250,000 Coral Gold Cup takes centre stage tomorrow
We extend our thanks to Coral for their continued support of this historic meeting and are delighted to welcome 300 members of their Racing Club to the Racecourse this weekend.

The first of our two Grade 2 contests today is scheduled for 1:50pm. The Coral John Francome Novices’ Chase over 2m4f has attracted six runners and looks set to be a fascinating clash between Gordon Elliot’s Irish challenger King Of Kingsfield and Paul Nicholls’ home-trained Regent’s Stroll, with Kingston Pride the dark horse after an impressive gallop here last week at our Coral Gold Cup Gallops Morning.
The £75,000 Coral Long Distance Hurdle features last year’s winner Strong Leader, who sets the standard, while Hewick adds international intrigue. Henderson’s duo, Doddiethegreat and Impose Toi, provide further depth. This race often shapes the staying hurdle division for the season ahead.
There’s plenty to enjoy off the track today, including live music, complimentary chair-o-plane rides and the Coral Rewards Human Grabber while you can party in the Denman Marquee after racing.
If you’re planning to join us for Coral Challow Hurdle Day on Monday 29th December, don’t miss the Early Bird ticket discount, which ends at 11:59pm on Monday 1st December It promises to be our biggest year yet for family fun with Under 18s going free and a brand new afterparty to look forward to this year
We’re excited to confirm that our Party in the Paddock music raceday series will return in 2026 with four instalments – over two huge weekends in July and August Our first acts will be announced at 10am on Tuesday 2nd December, so make sure you register your interest on page 4 to be among the first to hear and guarantee access to the lowest-priced tickets & passes.
Beyond the racing, Newbury is the perfect place for a festive celebration. Our Christmas party nights are proving popular, with new dates added due to demand. If you’re looking for a unique venue for your seasonal celebrations, you might be in luck – see page 33 for more details.
Finally, thank you to all our racegoers for joining us today. We hope you have a fantastic afternoon and look forward to welcoming you back tomorrow for the highlight of our Jumps season – the Coral Gold Cup.

There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:
1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.
2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:
• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.
• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.
4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.
5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!
6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.

Race Summary: Nicky Henderson does well in this race so the suggestion is his new recruit ACT OF INNOCENCE, who showed quite useful form in bumpers last season. The main threat will likely come from Sinnatra and Harbour Island, who also represent powerful stables and were both a promising second on hurdle debut earlier in the month.

THE TWELVE CLUB was formed in 1924 by some racing enthusiasts with its primary objective being “to protect members from the clutches of the Bookmaker” A competition has been run ever since for each Flat season in which its approximately 200 members – all racing enthusiasts and many employed in racing – choose twelve horses [hence the “Twelve”] prior to the season and notionally invest £1 at SP each time those horses run. The winner each year is the member whose Twelve shows the largest profit, with losers counting. A similar competition has most recently been introduced for the National Hunt season.
For many years the Twelve Club has made donations to racing charities and the connection with the British Racing School began in 1988. In 1993 Ian de Wesselow suggested that the Club make an annual award to the School’s two best trainees from the previous year. Each year since, the Club has awarded the Twelve Club whip and a cash prize to the two leading trainees; the first award made by Sir Gordon Brunton was to Royston Ffrench in 1995.
The winners in 2025 are Mia De Marco (Andrew Balding) and Christopher Head (Ralph Beckett).
The presentation will take place in the winner’s enclosure today.

Thistlecrack was successful at Newbury during the 2015-16 campaign when he went on to dominate the division, winning at both Cheltenham and Aintree, while Unowhatimeanharry took this race the season after winning the Albert Bartlett and more staying Grade 1s followed that year including the Long Walk and the Stayers’ Hurdle at the Punchestown Festival.
However, the most successful horse in the race’s history was the recordbreakingstayerBigBuck’swhose18-racewinningstreakincludedfourLong Distance Hurdle triumphs from 2009 to 2012.
He emerged at the end of a golden decade of staying hurdlers when Inglis Drever reeled off a Long Distance Hurdle hat-trick between 2005 and 2007.
He was preceded by the French great Baracouda, whose regular appearances in Britain for Francois Doumen included victories at Newbury in 2003 and 2004.
2019 Stayers’ Hurdle winner, Paisley Park finished runner up in this race in 2020 and 2022 and third in 2021. He returned last year to try and go one place better but could only take the runner-up spot once more as Dashel Drasher produced a great and gutsy performance, just holding on under late pressure to win by a head.
Grade 1 Liverpool Hurdle winner Strong Leader took the win in last year’s race as he started his season off with a bang.
