How To Use:

Newbury Racecourse is delighted to offer all racegoers free use of our Wi-Fi service.

Good afternoon, and a very warm welcome to our BetVictor Weekend Raceday, the first of two meetings this weekend.
I’d like to begin by thanking our title partner, BetVictor, for their ongoing support and long-standing partnership, as well as West Berkshire Mencap, OLBG, and Highclere Castle Horse Feeds for their support of today’s card.

Our penultimate and feature race of the afternoon is the two-mile Highclere Horse Feeds Handicap Chase for the Geoffrey Gilbey Trophy. Last year’s winner, Rath Gaul Hill, returns in search of back to back victories. Sam Twiston-Davies will be hoping the gelding can rediscover the spark that carried him to success in this contest twelve months ago
Staying with the chases, the OLBG Novice Chase has attracted a particularly compelling field. Miami Magic, rated 142 and arriving here after defeating Regent Stroll at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day, sets a high standard. Adding further intrigue, Nicky Henderson, who initially held three entries has elected to rely solely on the McManus owned mare That’s Nice.
With March just days away, we’re now only three weeks from the culmination of the Jumps season. We look forward to welcoming our partners at BetVictor back on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st March for the Jumps Season Finale.
If you’d like to get even closer to today’s action, why not join former top jockey Daryl Jacob for Trips to the Jump ahead of the 3pm and 4:08pm races. Meet Daryl 20 minutes before each race at the meeting point on the left-hand side of the weighing room to take part in this brilliant experience.
This week has seen the Racecourse confirm the final music act for this summer’s Party in the Paddock music raceday series with multi-platinum singer-songwriter Jessie J performing live after racing at VisitMalta Hungerford Weekend on Saturday 15th August Jessie J joins Gipsy Kings (Friday 17th July), Ronan Keating (Saturday 18th July) and Tinie Tempah (Friday 14th August) for what promises to be our biggest ever summer of music and racing Super Early Bird tickets – priced from just £24 – are available for this summer’s action but only until Friday 27th March
Finally, thank you to all our racegoers for joining us today. We look forward to welcoming you back tomorrow for more jumps racing.

There are plenty of ways to bet at Newbury – you can either bet with the bookmakers in the ‘ring’ in front of the Grandstand and the Crafty Filly, at one of the many Totepool kiosks or in one of our Betting Shops, located on the ground floor of the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand and the Berkshire Stand. Here’s a step-by-step guide of what to do:
1. Select your horse and note its name and racecard number.
2. Choose your bet –‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are the two most common types:
• ‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

• ‘Each-way’ is when you place two bets in one: one for your horse to come first, the other for it to be placed. Therefore £2 each-way = £4 total bet.
• What qualifies as a ‘place’ depends on the number of runners: between two and four runners - first place only; between five and seven runners - first and second place; eight runners and over - first three places; 16 runners and over (handicaps only) - first four places.
• The place part of the bet will be paid out at a fraction of the odds, usually a quarter or a fifth - this varies depending on the bookmaker, so check if you are unsure!
3. Decide the amount, also known as the stake that you are comfortable to bet.
4. Choose your outlet and place your bet e.g. “£2 win on number three” or “£2 each-way on number six”.
5. If your horse has won, wait to hear “weighed in” over the public address system and then go and collect any winnings!
6. Got so swept up you forgot to collect your cash? There are details of how to collect winning slips after the raceday on our terms and conditions page near the back of the racecard.
