Welcome to Ludlow for the first of our three February fixtures.
We would firstly like to thank our sponsors for today, CM Bespoke Care, The Attwood Family, The family of the late Roy Kneller, Plyvine Catering and Racing To School, we are grateful for your support and we hope you all have an enjoyable day.
Despite the damp weather and wet ground, we have some great racing to include the feature Handicap Chase, for the Attwood Memorial Trophy.
Our next meeting is our Behind the Scenes Raceday, on Wednesday 18th February during the half term holiday. We have lots planned for children and families to enjoy, including jockey demonstrations and the chance to go down to the start of a race, plus much more!
We hope to offer everyone an insight into the racing industry as they may never have seen it before.
I wish you all a great day here at Ludlow. If you have forgotten your umbrella or wooly hat, we have lots of Ludlow Racecourse Merchandise available to purchase from the office!
Best Regards
Simon Sherwood

HOW TO BET WITH AN ON-COURSE BOOKMAKER
1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to offer the correct stake money for your wager.
2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.
3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings
4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, i.e. for a win or a place
5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights.
6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g.£1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.
HOW TO READ THE RACECARD
EACH WAY BETTING

This looks a competitive opener but there was enough encouragement to glean from TALAKAN’s hurdles debut third at Ascot to think he can play a lead role with his sights lowered, and he shades preference over Kempton runner-up King Al. Wolf Rayet also has the form to play a part, whilst market confidence behind hurdles newcomer Gallivanted would also look significant for the stable who landed this race 12 months ago

Race Summary:
Though cases can be realistically made for several of these, RODNEY is firmly on the up and is taken to complete the hat-trick following commanding victories at Leicester and Hereford. Regal Renaissance may well have won had she stayed on all fours here in December and is feared most ahead of Toothless, who regained the winning thread at Windsor on New Year’s Day. Joker de Mai is also worth a second look.

FOLLOWING CHAPTER showed improved form when making his second handicap start a winning one at Warwick last time and, with this step up in trip promising to suit, he is taken to score again now that he’s up and running. OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
